For Sale 1985 Jeep CJ-7 125,500 Miles VIN: 1JCCM87A2FT022294 OverviewYou are looking at a 3 owner 1985 CJ-7. This Jeep has been built for reliability, safety and the ability to do some mild trail riding. Lots attention to detail make this Jeep enjoyable both on and off the highway. It is titled, insured and passed emissions inspections up until it was registered as an antique in 2010. It drives and tracks well. Both axles are equipped with Detroit lockers and alloy axle shafts. The power steering is tight and the hydraulically boosted brakes are powerful. The emergency brake system was just serviced and holds well. All the electrical components work including the windshield washers and dash lights. The speedometer works and is accurate. There are lots of extras on this Jeep. See below. The fuel injection and ignition systems are fully programmable and a netbook and software is included for tuning and engine monitoring if you wish to do so. The EFI system uses an Innovate wide band O2 sensor for maximum tuning accuracy. The Jeep was purchased new in Texas and kept as a daily driver for many years. I am the third owner, with the second being a close family member. The Jeep was moved to the East Coast in 2002 and has been garaged or under a carport its entire life. It has been regularly serviced and has run Mobil One fully synthetic engine oil for most of its life. The roll cage was fabricated by a well-known fabrication shop, A to Z Fabrication, on the East Coast. It's main strucutre, made from 2" DOM tubing, is triangulated in numerous spots and mounts the suspension seats and five point Crow harnesses. The factory style seat belts were maintained and integrated into the roll cage for convenience. This gives you the option of wearing either the regular seatbelt or the 5 point harness. The seatbelts themselves are brand new. The Jeep is set up for flat towing and comes with a tow bar. The Jeep is sporting its original paint with spots of touch up paint in various locations around the vehicle. Known Issues: There is minor rust through in two of the four spots where the original rollbar met the body. These areas were not painted at the factory and tend to collect water and rust. It was not visible when the original roll bar was installed in the Jeep. See photos and video. Otherwise there is no rust through on the body or frame, only minor surface rust in the wheel wells and tub floor where the paint has been worn off. There has been no body work done to this vehicle. All the body panels are original and there is no body filler on this vehicle. The body has a few minor dents, including the front left fender, the rear right corner and the right rocker panel (not visible under the rocker guard). See photos. The engine drips a few drops of oil after being run for a long period of time. There is a very minor gear oil leak at the rear differential cover. It leaks a drop or two after being driven. The jeep will pop out of second gear on steep down hills. This is most likely a worn syncro, but it doesn't affect normal shifting. The front most exhaust manifold bolt hole on the head failed many years ago. A bracket was fabricated and installed to replace the bolt. The heater's air "recirculation" control cable is broken. The vehicle has no accident history and a clear Carfax history, which is available. Note that per Virginia law, the license plates will be removed before transfer. The buyer will be responsible for reregistering the vehicle in order to legally operate it on Virginia roads. Chrysler investigating complaints of vehicles with faulty power modules
Sun, 24 Aug 2014Chrysler owners are hopping mad after experiencing a series of electrical gremlins in some of the company's vehicles. Issues range from mere annoyances - windows rolling down and radios turning off of their own accord - to serious safety issues, with headlights that randomly shut off at night and cars that stall and refuse to start.
The issues are being blamed on the total integrated power module, which can cost up to $1,000 for customers to replace. This, of course, has led to a hefty batch of complaints to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, with 240 owners expressing their displeasure so far. Another site, CarComplaints.com, has registered over 300 complaints relating to the 2010 to 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango, alone, according to The New York Times.
Chrysler has acknowledged that it's investigating the complaints and is analyzing the faulty TIPMs, but that isn't quite enough for customers of the affected vehicles. The newspaper has snagged a few of the more harrowing tales with the electrically challenged Chrysler products, culled from the NHTSA complaints.
These cars are headed to the Great Crusher In The Sky
Fri, 24 Aug 2012It happens every year. We bid adieu to some cars and trucks that will be missed, and say good riddance to others wondering how they stayed around so long. Whether they're being killed off for slow sales or due to a new product coming along to replace them, the list of vehicles being discontinued after 2012 is surprisingly long and diverse.
CNN Money has compiled a list of departing vehicles, to which we've added a few more of our own. In the slow sales column, cars like the Lexus HS 250h, Mercedes-Benz R-Class and the full Maybach lineup appear, while the Ford Escape Hybrid, Mazda CX-7 and Hyundai Veracruz are all having their gaps filled with more modern and more fuel-efficient alternatives. Obvious exceptions to the rule include models that still sell in decent numbers like the Jeep Liberty and the Chrysler Town & Country (which will eventually be replaced by a crossover-like vehicle).

7 months later, Jeep 'trailer hitch' recall still stalled
Tue, 14 Jan 2014For the past few years, Chrysler and its CEO, Sergio Marchionne, have gone head-to-head with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and its boss, David Strickland, over the government safety agency's request for Chrysler to recall almost three-million Jeep vehicles due to what NHTSA says is a safety issue that has caused at least 51 deaths. After a three-year investigation and Chrysler's initial refusal to issue a recall because it deemed the vehicles safe and built to the day's federal requirements, last summer, the two parties compromised on a "voluntary campaign" to inspect 1.56 million vehicles, those being the 1992 to 1998 Grand Cherokee and 2002 to 2007 Liberty.
Those vehicles were designed with their gas tanks between the rear axle and the bumper, and NHTSA says that in rear-end collisions, damage to the fuel tank has caused fires responsible for those 51 deaths. The compromise reached last summer was that Chrysler would inspect 1.56 million vehicles and, "if necessary, provide an upgrade to the rear structure of the vehicle." Practically speaking, that meant Chrysler would replace aftermarket trailer hitches, but would take no action if a vehicle had a factory-installed hitch or an aftermarket hitch from Mopar.
A report in The Detroit News says the "voluntary campaign" is just now getting under way, with Chrysler saying last week that the design of the replacement part had been finalized and it was tooling up "to deliver the required volume." Seven months later, still in question is whether NHTSA will crash-test the fix engineered by Chrysler, noteworthy because not only did the vehicles in question pass every safety standard necessary to be cleared for sale at the time, there are still questions (to those of us on the outside) as to how the Jeeps at issue fare among their peers in such incidents. Either way, Chrysler and NHTSA apparently still disagree on the efficacy of the remedy itself: the carmaker says it might help in low-speed crashes but not high-speed collisions, a position the NHTSA is at odds with. All of this means the campaign doesn't yet have an end in sight.
