The Goods:

  • This Jeep will go anywhere you point it. Professionally built with no expenses spared. Woman owned and daily driven.
  • Gets 16mpg
  • VERY flexy offroad
  • Interior is in VERY good condition
  • Jeep is VERY solid and VERY clean for age.

The Bads:

  • Needs a starter. 9 out of 10 times it starts without issues. The 10th time if you wack the starter with a hammer she'll fire right up. We decided to just replace it. We have a NEW IN BOX starter that will be included with the purchase of this Jeep. We simply have not had the time to have it installed yet.
  • Does have a few dings/dents. The front driver fender has a dent. The lower rocker on the passenger side has a golf-ball sized dent (thanks rock!). The factory rear bumper is missing the end-cap on the driver side and the bumper is slightly bent.
  • Does have a few rust spots. The lower section of the front doors on each side has some surface rust (not through). It is the DOORS ONLY, the rockers are solid. The rear lower quarters behind the tires right beside the fender flare also have rust. We had planned on simply just doing the "cut-n-fold" to them but never got around to it.
  • The Neutral Saftey Switch (NSS) does sometimes act up. If you put it in (N) it'll start up just fine. It's never left us hanging and we've never got around to cleaning it. There are lots of write-ups online about how to clean them vs. replacing them. Like we said, it'll start if you put it in (N) without issues.
  • The headliner fabric is off. The backing is still there and installed.
  • The Jeep is VERY SOLID but we wanted to be upfront about the few small issues.

We are in the middle of renovations to a 140yr/old building in our historic downtown and simply need additional funding to finish the project. This is the ONLY reason we are selling this vehicle. Hate to see it go, as my wife really enjoys driving and wheeling this Jeep.

Jeep idles second shift it hired a month ago for 2014 Cherokee

Tue, 24 Sep 2013

In an unusual move, Chrysler is idling its recently hired second shift of 2014 Jeep Cherokee builders because, Chrysler spokeswoman Jodi Tinson said in a statement, it already has built the "critical number of vehicles we need to stock dealerships once containment is released," Automotive News reports.
After the "critical" 9,430 Cherokees were built, the layoff was enacted so as not to strain the automaker's logistics partners before the Cherokee is actually released. Chrysler says the temporary layoff will last about two weeks, with 500 workers out of work and another 600 reassigned at the Toledo Assembly Complex where the sports utility vehicle was being built. The second-shift workers were hired on August 19.
Chrysler previously insisted that it would release the Cherokee to dealerships by the end of the third quarter, and it initially planned to start selling the SUVs in mid-August. Apparently the Cherokee needed a software fix before hitting showrooms, which is how Chrysler explains why the release schedule is out of whack. We're thinking that this software fix addresses the "powertrain calibration" issue that delayed the first media test drives of the model. According to the Toledo Blade, Chrysler has admitted it is doing "extended quality validation testing" but refused to provide more information.

Jeep gives a trio of customs an encore showing at SEMA

Wed, 05 Nov 2014

While Jeep certainly had some new customs on display at this year's SEMA show, it wasn't afraid to recycle a few that people might have missed from earlier this year. The maker of many beloved off-roaders already displayed the Jeep Cherokee Dakar, Maximum Performance Wrangler and Wrangler Mojo at the 2014 Easter Safari, but they all made it to SEMA for an encore.
Based around the Trailhawk, the Cherokee Dakar (pictured above) imagines an even more off-road-capable version of the crossover. The concept wears a mix of Silver Steel Stain paint with Flame Red graphics and rides on 17-inch wheels wrapped in 33-inch BFGoodrich Mud Terrain tires. To back up the rugged look, the Dakar is fitted with rock rails and skid plates protecting the oil pan, front suspension, fuel tank and other underbody parts. It also sports prototype parts from Jeep Performance Parts, including a lift kit and fender flares.
The Wrangler is one of the paragons of off-roading, and as the name suggests, the Maximum Performance Wrangler concept is meant to be the ultimate example of what it can do. The custom features locking Dana 60 axles front and rear, a 4:1 Rock-Trac transfer case, prototype 4-inch lift kit and 37-inch Mud Terrain tires over beadlock wheels. To stay on the trails well into the night, a bar of LEDs is mounted above the windshield. And finally, the Mopar Blue exterior kind of makes the vehicle look like the world's toughest blueberry.

This American Life spends a week selling Jeeps in Long Island

Thu, 19 Dec 2013

So you think you know car dealers? Well, maybe you do, but This American Life spent a month at Town and Country Jeep Chrysler Doge Ram in Long Island to give us a behind-the-scenes look (or listen, since it's a radio program) at what it's like to be a car dealer.
Yes, there's a lot of swearing in thick New York accents, frustration, confusion, and generally it's a madhouse at the dealership. But that's understandable when the sales staff has to sell 129 vehicles in October in order to get an $85,000 manufacturer bonus - with several other Jeep dealerships within a 10-mile radius.
The episode, 129 Cars, is worth a listen, but make sure you have 71 minutes to spare if you want to get through it in one sitting. Head here for the unedited version or here for the bleeped version (which is 58 minutes long).
