1997 Jeep Cherokee Sport Xj 4wd 6 Cylinder, Auto, Np231 California Car on 2040-cars
Petaluma, California, United States
This Jeep XJ Cherokee Sport is a California Car. It has the most desirable drive-train: the multi-port fuel injected 4.0 L six cylinder motor, the Aisin-Warner AW-4 4-speed automatic transmission, along with the New Process NP231 Command-Trac, transfer case. Both 2WD and 4WD work great and it tows just fine behind my motorhome. This is a solid platform for an awesome build up. Make it into a great daily driver, a dependable RV toad, an overland vehicle or a rock crawler. These are cheap, dependable vehicles but the best thing about the Cherokee XJ is that you can find parts at almost any auto parts store in North America, South America, Europe and China. Aftermarket support is great with an amazing selection of bumpers, lift kits, and suspension components. Unlike most of those XJs in the YouTube videos, this one has a clean undercarriage so you won't have to use a torch to loosen up all the corroded and rusted suspension components.
This Cherokee is very basic and the only options are the most important: A/C and cruise control. The A/C blows ice cold! It runs good as-is but is really a great candidate for a little re-freshening. A lift kit that includes new leaf springs and shocks would be a great solution. The previous owner was a surfer and got saltwater from his surfboard on the roof so there's some light rust up there (see pictures). I cleaned up some of the bad rust up front, but I apparently needed to do a little more work on the back side as you can see in the photos. The interior is in very good condition. It's has a current certificate of planned non-operation (PNO) in California. I will smog and register it if the winner of this auction plans to operate it in California. If the winner plans to ship this vehicle out of the state of California, then I won't bother with smog and registration. New parts installed in the last year:

Europe gets Jeep Wrangler Polar limited edition
Wed, 04 Sep 2013Jeep will be bringing an all-new, limited-edition model to the European market called the Wrangler Polar. Based on the Wrangler Sahara and set to make its debut at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show, the Wrangler Polar sports new Hyrdro Blue paint, gloss black 18-inch wheels, a body-color hardtop, and the regular mix of Mopar styling accessories. Billet Silver Metallic and Bright White are available for those that don't dig the glossy blue, while a two-door variant will be available in addition to the four-door pictured above.
The Polar's interior features similar tweaks; Pearl White contrast stitching can be found on both the seats and steering wheel, while ceramic White bezels and other accents give a nice contrasting look to the cabin.
Underhood sits an engine that should make American Wrangler enthusiasts weep - a 2.8-liter, four-cylinder turbodiesel. With 200 horsepower and 339 pound-feet of torque channeled through a five-speed automatic transmission, the Wrangler Polar should handle itself just fine on normal roads. British buyers will also be able to select the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6. For rougher stuff, Dana axles can be found front and rear (Dana 30 up front and Dana 44 in back), while the Command-Trac four-wheel-drive system and its two-speed transfer case should be enough for when the roads disappear.
NHTSA upgrading Jeep Grand Cherokee, Dodge Durango headliner fire probe
Wed, 15 Jan 2014The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration investigation into headliner fires experienced by a small number of Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango owners has been upgraded to an engineering analysis, the step before the initiation of a recall. In August last year the investigation began with 146,000 Grand Cherokees from 2012 after three complaints were received, but a report on Edmunds says it has been expanded to include 593,299 vehicles covering the 2011-2013 model years for the Jeep and the Dodge Durango, which uses the same headliner assembly, because of possibly 52 incidents of fire.
In some of those incidents drivers have reported a burning odor, smoke or open flames that were contained to the headliner or migrated to another area of the passenger compartment. The culprit has apparently been found: NHTSA blaming an electrical short in the sun visor vanity light wiring, which is routed under the headliner and held in place by three screws. Chrysler began its own probe into the issue when it was first reported and is still looking into the situation while, "fully supporting the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's investigation."
Jeep dealer buries WWII Willys GP in showroom floor
Tue, 04 Nov 2014The Willys MB Jeep earned icon status during World War II thanks to its ruggedness, simplicity and go-anywhere ability. Following the war, it didn't take long for the handy vehicles to be scooped up by the public, and a brand slowly grew around the vehicles that has continued to thrive. Fast-forward to present day, where it's not uncommon for auto dealers to try to grab some of the magic of yesteryear by displaying classic models to connect customers with their brands' proud histories. Now, a Canadian Chrysler Group dealer is taking that notion to the extreme by actually making a vintage WWII Jeep part of its foundation.
Bay King Chrysler in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, recently completed its new showroom, and the franchise really wanted to show its dedication to the Jeep brand. As dealer principal Jamie Richter tells Autoblog, the inspiration for the Jeep installation came from his brother, who became fascinated with a home that had a glass floor looking down into its wine cellar. The company already had the 1943 Willys MB to display, but it had originally planned to build a jungle gym around it for customers' kids. Now, the classic is literally in the floor as customers enter. Richter tells Autoblog that customer reaction so far has been "fantastic."
It's certainly a novel way to bring people into the showroom, and seemingly a nice nod not only to Jeep, but to the men and women who served in the war. If you want to see more about how the Jeep was actually installed and what it looks like, check out this video.
