1971 Jeep Cj5 Renegade on 2040-cars

Selling my 1971 Jeep CJ5 Renegade , the original Renegade equipped with the venerable Dauntless 225ci v6-3speed manual transmission. This Jeep is well sorted out and trail ready. The motor and trans are original as equipped and were rebuilt with less then 10k miles since rebuild. This motor, in my opinion, is one of the best Jeep motors ever used. It is an odd fire Buick v-6. This motor has alot of horsepower and torque and is very compact and light. The sound that an odd fire v6 makes is unique and righteous. It has wheel exit headers and turbo mufflers, not too quiet but not too loud, which makes that perfect sound. The transmission is a B/W T-14A 3-speed. It has a synchromesh first gear so you can downshift at low speed into first unlike earlier Jeep transmissions were you had to come to a complete stop to put it in first gear. This Jeep is licensed and road worthy but I would call this a 90/10 Jeep. Meaning it should be used 90% off road and 10% on road. The steering is loose as from the factory and the brakes are four wheel drum with a small single reservoir master cylinder as factory equipped. The motor in this Jeep can make it go very fast on the road but the steering and brakes this Jeep came equipped with are less than adequate in my opinion. Please don't buy this Jeep thinking you will use it as your daily driver. You will only be disappointed. This Jeep is a rugged trail Jeep that can be driven to and from the trail. This Jeep drips fluid from the front and rear axle pinion seals. It is not a major leak but only a nuisance drip. This Jeep was painted and had its floor boards replaced about 10 years ago and has held up well. It has always been stored indoors. In the pictures you will see some bubbling and cracks in the paint and some rust coming out in some areas. This is a very solid Jeep. This Jeep has a heavy duty frame because it is a Renegade and the frame has no rotting anywhere only surface rust. This Jeep has functioning stereo, CB radio, heater, wipers, window washer fluid pump, turn signals, brake lights and reverse lights. It has a horn but the button on the Grant steering wheel needs to be replaced. This Jeep is also equipped with heavy duty leaf spring suspension, a 20 gallon steel gas tank with heavy duty skid plate, locking gas cap, and I have added an electric fan in addition to the stock belt driven fan. The electric fan is a pusher fan and keeps the engine nice and cool when going slow through the trails at low speed and low rpm. The tires are older but have alot of tread and have innertubes in place. I am selling the Jeep with both full soft top with doors and bikini top included. Both are in good shape. I will also throw in the with the sale a set of vintage slotted mags I bought for this Jeep but never got around to putting them on. These are deep slotted mags from the '70s and will look perfect on this Jeep. Although I do love the look of the deep white steel wheels on this Jeep also. Ask questions and good luck bidding

Jeep Renegade gets Riptide and Frostbite customs at SEMA

Wed, 05 Nov 2014

The cute little Jeep Renegade isn't even on sale yet, but here at SEMA, the Mopar folks are giving us a taste of what's possible for the little CUV in the big wide world of customization. Part of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles' massive SEMA spread, the Renegade shows up in fresh Riptide and and Frostbite guises.
First up, the Riptide arrives in Vibrance Grandeur Blue with black wheels and a big ol' Jeep Performance Parts logo on the rear pillar. There are a few black accents elsewhere on the exterior, and a surfboard carrier rides up on the roof. The blue color scheme also finds its way inside the Renegade, on the instrument cluster and side panels, with contrasting white accents.
By contrast, the Frostbite Renegade reverses the Riptide's color scheme, with white being the main paint of choice, with blue accents abound. And inside, Katzkin seats wear blue upholstery. The Frostbite is a pretty functional creation, as well, with a Mopar ski/snowboard roof rack and a Jeep Performance Parts rock rail guard.

2014 Jeep Patriot and Compass ditch CVT for six-speed auto

Mon, 07 Jan 2013

It was reported in Automotive News a few months ago, but a new report on Allpar.com adds some details to news that the 2014 Jeep Compass and Patriot will get a six-speed automatic to replace the CVTs they currently use. According to a tip provided to Allpar, the 2014 models will begin production in March and be on sale sometime in the summer. The Jatco-sourced CVT in use until now - Jatco is owned by Nissan and Mitsubishi - has been often criticized, and many won't be sad to see it go.
The incoming six-speed automatic is said to be an all-wheel-drive cog-swapper that's the work of Hyundai and Magna and has been paired with the DynaMax AWD system used in the Hyundai ix35 and Kia Sportage. It won't be the only Chrysler product using a transmission with ties to Hyundai: the six-speed automatic in the Dodge Dart comes from Powertech, which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hyundai. With the Patriot and Compass said to be driving down the trail for the last time this year, it will be a short run for the new tranny and the rumored addition of a backup camera and power rear liftgate on the Compass.

Jeep gives a trio of customs an encore showing at SEMA

Wed, 05 Nov 2014

While Jeep certainly had some new customs on display at this year's SEMA show, it wasn't afraid to recycle a few that people might have missed from earlier this year. The maker of many beloved off-roaders already displayed the Jeep Cherokee Dakar, Maximum Performance Wrangler and Wrangler Mojo at the 2014 Easter Safari, but they all made it to SEMA for an encore.
Based around the Trailhawk, the Cherokee Dakar (pictured above) imagines an even more off-road-capable version of the crossover. The concept wears a mix of Silver Steel Stain paint with Flame Red graphics and rides on 17-inch wheels wrapped in 33-inch BFGoodrich Mud Terrain tires. To back up the rugged look, the Dakar is fitted with rock rails and skid plates protecting the oil pan, front suspension, fuel tank and other underbody parts. It also sports prototype parts from Jeep Performance Parts, including a lift kit and fender flares.
The Wrangler is one of the paragons of off-roading, and as the name suggests, the Maximum Performance Wrangler concept is meant to be the ultimate example of what it can do. The custom features locking Dana 60 axles front and rear, a 4:1 Rock-Trac transfer case, prototype 4-inch lift kit and 37-inch Mud Terrain tires over beadlock wheels. To stay on the trails well into the night, a bar of LEDs is mounted above the windshield. And finally, the Mopar Blue exterior kind of makes the vehicle look like the world's toughest blueberry.
