This Jeep Wagoneer is named "Beaucoup" because it took beaucoup time  (two year frame-off restoration) and beaucoup bucks to rebuild everything.  I purchased two jeeps: a 1982 for the body and a 1987 for the leather interior and power seats and windows.  A professional Denver-based mechanic rebuilt all of the mechanicals which included the 360 engine, transmission, transfer case, etc.  To those items I added an ARB locker system driven by an air compressor, a lift package, fuel injection, a power antenna, new stereo and speakers, and a GPS.  The entire underbody was rhino coated and the spare wheel is protected by a custom stainless steel cover.  The body was painted one of the original Jeep Wagoneer colors--black cherry--and new moulding and woodgrain were installed.  The carpet and headliner are new as well.  The front and rear bumpers were refinished as were the four original Jeep wheels.

As mentioned previously, the right front window is "touchy," and the fuel injection needs adjustment to your altitude (this vehicle resides at 10,000 feet in the mountains).

The vehicle is available for inspection in Breckenridge, CO.

The winning bidder is responsible to pick up the vehicle in Breckenridge, CO.

Watch this Jeep Willys return to its birthplace after 70 years

Sun, 23 Jun 2013

Earlier this month, a very significant Jeep was celebrated at the Toledo North Assembly plant. No, it wasn't the upcoming reincarnation of the Jeep Cherokee, but instead it was a 1943 Willys MB that visited the Toledo grounds where it had been built exactly 70 years ago to the day.
Of course, the actual building where the MBs rolled off the assembly line before heading to Europe for World War II no longer exists, but that didn't stop Italian owner Vittorio Argento from having the vehicle shipped to the US to make its trek back to its birth place. According to Chrysler, Argento's MB is still 95-percent original and it drove 1,000 miles from New Jersey to Toledo.
The whole adventure was chronicled on a blog aptly named A Jeep Comes Home. Scroll down for a brief video from Chrysler and for some photos of the Toledo visit and be sure to read more at Argento's blog.

Chrysler uses Super Bowl spots to honor troops, farmers

Sun, 03 Feb 2013

How do you follow up such revered and successful ads as Chrysler's last two Super Bowl commercials? Imported from Detroit and Halftime in America should be given credit for giving the automaker's public perception a complete overhaul after its rescue from the brink with taxpayer money. What next, then?
We just found out during Super Bowl XLVII. This year Chrysler went with two commercials, one for Jeep and the other Ram. The two-minute-long Jeep commercial, called Whole Again, is narrated by Oprah Winfrey and presented as an open letter to the service men and women of America, simply expressing admiration for what they do - poignant message coming from a company whose history is so entwined with that of the military's.
The Ram commercial, called Farmer, honors the agricultural backbone of this country. Its soundtrack is a speech entitled "So God Made a Farmer" given by the famous radio broadcaster Paul Harvey, which plays over a slideshow of original photography commissioned by Ram. The images, of course, focus on farming and the people who do it for a living, and there's a few Ram trucks in there, as well.

NHTSA closes investigation into Jeep Liberty fires

Sun, 16 Mar 2014

The investigation that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration opened into the Jeep Liberty in October 2013 has been closed. NHTSA received two (!) complaints about fires starting in the driver's door, thought to be caused by the master power window switch. The initial estimate was that 80,000 Libertys could be roped into a possible recall, but according to a report in the Detroit News the agency examined records for 425,000 Chrysler products that used the same window switch, including the Dodge Nitro and Chrysler Town & Country minivan.
After canvassing 265 warranty claims related to the master switches, NHTSA concluded that the rate of fires compared to the "large population of vehicles" was rather low, and that there was no trend pattern behind the few issues it did find. Perhaps with that, and the closure of the trailer hitch investigation, the Liberty can finally rest in peace.
