1985 Land Rover Defender 110 Diesel

EXTREMELY RARE ORIGINAL LEFT HAND DRIVE

Up for sale is a very nice example of a Land Rover 110 pickup!  This is a LEFT HAND DRIVE 2.5 Diesel pickup with a 5spd standard transmission.  This little Land Rover runs excellent, starts on the coldest days without issue and will run the Interstate at 65-70 mph all day long while averaging approximately 30 mpg!  The roof top is also easily removed for that convertible top feeling.  The clutch operates as it should, the transmission shifts smoothly.  The truck drives smoothly down the road with no excessive play in the steering and tracks nice and straight.  The 16 inch classic steel wheels are shod with tires in good condition.  The front two tires have approximately 60% tread remaining and the rear tires (different brand from the front tires) have approximately 70% tread remaining.  The truck had been painted 7-10 years ago and is holding up well.  Of course it is a 29 year old vehicle and as such it does have some minor blemishes and doors dings, etc...  The bulkhead appears to be in solid condition as does the rest of the truck.  The frame underneath is also very solid from front to back.  The truck has the stronger Salisbury rear axle and has center differential lock.  The front brakes have just been completely rebuilt with new pads, rotors and calipers.  The brake pedal feels a little soft, however it stops well with no leaks or issues.  The parking brake, lights, horn, heater, windshield wipers and gauges all work well with the exception of the oil temperature gauge.  The truck currently has 92,532 original miles or approximately 150,000 kilometers.  This Defender started life in the British Military somewhere oversees on light airport duty where left hand drive vehicles were utilized.  It was then imported to Canada approximately 10 years ago by a Canadian Land Rover enthusiast.  We imported the vehicle into Texas last year and it is currently tagged with a clear blue title in Texas and insured as a classic.  I would welcome any interested parties to view the vehicle in person.  Would make an excellent hunting, farm, classic cruiser or expedition truck!  May be able to assist with shipping..

Sold as is, really great find!

These are the top luxury cars bought by people entering the segment for the first time

Fri, 25 Jul 2014

Let's say you just got a big promotion at work or the kids are moving out of the house, and you finally have some extra money. You decide to blow it all at once and treat yourself by upgrading your ride. Naturally, you look to a luxury automaker. What do you choose?
Models like the Audi A3 and Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class may be tailor-made to introduce buyers to the premium segment, but a new study finds that they don't garner the highest rates of non-luxury customer conquests. It turns out that a Volvo leads among folks moving up to a premium brand, and it isn't even one that's made anymore, at that.
A recent study by Polk and IHS Automotive looked at what models had the highest rates of buyers upgrading from a non-luxury segment. The information comes from its new vehicle registration data through April 2014. All ten top models boasted conquest rates of over 50 percent, but the Volvo C70 led the field with 68.01 percent of its customers coming from non-premium brands.

European automakers gear up for Brazilian production

Mon, 07 Oct 2013

Brazil is the place to be, apparently. Toyota has been investing in the South American country, as has BMW, which announced a $261 million investment in October 2012, on the heels of an Audi factory announcement in San José Chiapa. The high-end immigration is only set to continue, as Mercedes-Benz and Jaguar-Land Rover have both announced plans to set up manufacturing operations there.
Mercedes is the big news here, as its new facility will see the German manufacturer invest 170-million euros for production of its next-generation C-Class and upcoming GLA-Class. "Brazil is an important future market. With our local production we accept the challenge and take on the competition," noted Andreas Renschler, Management Board member for Production and Procurement at Mercedes-Benz Cars and Mercedes-Benz Vans. Production is expected to begin by 2016.
Jaguar-Land Rover, meanwhile, isn't so concrete in its plans. The news of its investment in South America comes from a job posting for a plant quality manager in Brazil that was picked up by the UK's AutoCar. "Portuguese language skills will be definite advantage" for interested candidates, according to the job listing. The want ad follows on the heels of remarks by Jaguar Land Rover's Dr. Ralph Speth, who said there are "very intensive discussions" with Brazil's government. Unlike Mercedes, there's no mention of which vehicles will be produced in South America, although AutoCar thinks the Freelander, sold in the US as the LR2, is a leading contender.

Jaguar Land Rover in talks for Southern US factory

Mon, 20 Oct 2014

Jaguar Land Rover is getting serious about global expansion, and that means it can't only build its vehicles in the UK anymore. The British automaker is cutting the ribbon at its new plant in China tomorrow, marking the opening of its first factory outside the UK. In 2016, it will open another factory in Brazil. But the latest intel has it that JLR is looking into a US factory, as well.
The report, which comes to us from the Sunday Times by way of Automotive News Europe, indicates that the company is evaluating locations for a North American factory, with options centering around Southern right-to-work states like South Carolina, where BMW operates its plant in Spartanburg and a wide array of other automotive operations are based as well. The JLR plant would reportedly ramp up to a capacity of 200,000 units per year.
In related news, while that new plant JLR is inaugurating in Changshu, China, is initially slated to produce the Range Rover Evoque, it is also expected to start building the new Discovery Sport as well - just like the Halewood plant in the UK that has handled Evoque assembly from the start and which just built its first Discovery Sport, as well.
