1994 - Land Rover Defender on 2040-cars
Cement City, Michigan, United States
Offered for sale is my 1994 D90. History: As mentioned, I bought the Defender in 2002 with roughly 80,000 miles on it as a daily driver. Despite my grand delusions of testing it's Camel Trophy abilities, I've never had it off road. After a couple of years it became a sometimes second vehicle, but mostly sat unused. Aside from a stack of receipts, I have no history of the truck before my ownership. I purchased it from a guy in Virginia who incidentally was replacing it with a 109. Chassis/Body: Much of the rust proofing was peeling, so I spent some time scraping the loose stuff off to get a better idea of the chassis's actual condition. There is of plenty surface rust, but it's stout. The body is for the most part in passable condition though the doors have looked better. They've galvanic corrosion around the bottom that should be visible in the photos. There are a couple of dings around the tail lights, and the bonnet also has some dings on it. The Drive Train: The odometer shows 96,000 miles. The odometer also does not work. Actually, it does... The problem is where the cable connects to the transfer case. Spinning the cable activates the speedometer. As I recall - it's been a long time since I looked at it - there's a clip of some sort that is supposed to fasten the cable housing to the transfer case, but isn't. It stopped working sometime after it was retired as a daily driver, so there's not been much incentive to fix it. You may take my estimate for what it's worth, but I doubt the truck has yet made it to 100,000 miles. No doubt the engine needs a tune. It hasn't been looked at in years. I fired it up for the first time this year in preparation for sale, and the 'service engine' light came on. Having said that, it started first time, without hesitation, and settled into a nice idle. It revs well, and sounds good. The exhaust from the Y pipe back is stainless. The truck does not have cats.

Jaguar Land Rover and Chery investing in Chinese plant
Sat, 24 Nov 2012While the European auto market for Jaguar and Land Rover is waning, Chinese car buyers can't get enough of the British marques. To meet that demand, Tata Motors, parent company of Jag and Land Rover, is partnering with Chinese automaker Chery Automobile Co.
The two announced plans to invest $1.75 billion to build a new plant and create a new, China-focused brand. 2014 is the target for completion of the factory. Jaguars and Land Rovers built at the facility will be the first ever produced outside the UK according to the Associated Press. The JV will be called Chery Jaguar Land Rover Automotive Company Ltd.
The announcement comes less than a month after JLR announced it would open a design studio in China. It's not clear from the reports whether the two announcements are part of the same JV or two separate plans.
Jaguar crossover won't be based on Evoque or have off-road chops
Wed, 21 Aug 2013Jaguar's long-rumored crossover won't be built on the same platform as the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque, says the Australian site Car Advice. The future of the new CUV remains uncertain, but if Jaguar does dip its toes into the SUV/crossover pool, though, the new vehicle will likely be a car-based soft roader, lacking (or perhaps more appropriately, not needing) the off-road-engineered chops inherent in Land Rover's small CUV platform.
Jaguar product planner Steven De Ploey explained to Car Advice, "There's many groups around the world [platform sharing] - obviously Volkswagen Group is doing it all the time - but I think we have to be careful. He added, "Jaguar is something quite different... It's about capability, but very much on-road focused capability." That seems to gel with our suspicions that the XQ, as it's expected to be called, will share its platform with an upcoming small Jaguar sedan, the oft-rumored X-Type successor.
Still, we'd recommend taking any mention of a Jaguar crossover with a grain of salt. Based on many of the (quite compelling) statements made by De Ploey against a Jag crossover and previous statements made by Jag's design boss, Ian Callum, the case against a leaper-bearing crossover seems strong. If a high-rider were to arrive from Jaguar, though, the article insinuates that it'd be more in line with the BMW X6 or upcoming X4 - sort of a coupe-based crossover. Like we said, grain of salt. If a Jag crossover is going to arrive soon, the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show is the most likely locale for its debut. We'll find out in a few weeks.
Jaguar Land Rover details JustDrive connectivity suite
Tue, 18 Nov 2014
JustDrive will allegedly deliver on the long-promised idea of natural communication between driver and car.
Jaguar Land Rover's all-new InControl system is set to get a big bump as the British company will add a new service called JustDrive, which expands on the smartphone-focused infotainment system by adding a singular voice controller for a wide array of the system's currently available apps.
