  • 1986 Land Rover Defender 90 county station wagon
  •  Automatic transmission and 300tdi engine
  • It runs excellent with absolutely no smoke and starts instantly any time. The 300tdi engine runs smooth, transmission shift solidly, and the turbo sounds perfect. Driven regularly.
  • Rancho shocks, lifted with extended coil springs, and  polyurethane suspension bushings. The tires are 235/85 r16 from the UK and are called Greenway Anaconda, but are very similar to an Interco Super Swamper or Bogger. They look great but are very loud on the road.
  • Original County interior that has been upgraded to grey sound deadening carpet in rear, black rubber sound deadening mats in front, and OEM style techno cloth front seats. The original headliner remains and has been fitted with a stereo receiver with USB and aux. inputs, as well as a pair of pioneer speakers. The vinyl window trim has a 3-4" in the rear passenger quarter, but  grey marine vinyl will be included to recover all 4 window trim panels.
  • Solid chassis and bulkhead, minimal corrosion consisting of the typical electrolytic bubbling on door bottoms and two small holes on bulkhead that have been repaired (pictured)
  • This Defender was legally imported from the UK  in August 2012
  • Smog exempt in California
  • Returns approximately 28-30 mpg.

Jaguar Land Rover calls in handful of vehicles over suspension bolts

Thu, 24 Apr 2014

With most recalls seemingly affecting mass-market vehicles, it'd be all too easy to assume, consciously or otherwise, that higher-end automobiles never face such issues. But the main reason we don't see the NHTSA recalling more luxury automobiles isn't because of their quality, we'd postulate: it's because of their relative scarcity.
Take Jaguar Land Rover, recalls of whose vehicles we only seem to have cause to report about once a year. So if you're figuring they're about due, here you go. The Indian-owned British auto group has just announced two recalls, both regarding suspension components: one affecting Jaguars and another concerning - you guessed it - Land Rovers.
First up we have a recall for 2013 to 2014 model year Jaguar XJ, XF and XK models - a whopping 297 of them - which have been found to have problematic toe links. Separation of the toe link from the rear sub-frame could result in impaired stability and control over the vehicle's direction, so JLR is calling them in to replace the nuts and washers on the rear toe links.

Jaguar Land Rover opens winter testing facility in Minnesota

Wed, 12 Dec 2012

As it begins the rollout of the all-wheel-drive Jaguar XJ and XF models, Jaguar Land Rover has just announced that it has opened a new facility in northern Minnesota for winter testing. Located in International Falls, MN (on the US and Canadian border), the British automaker says it is one of the coldest locations in the Continental US. Jaguar's new Instinctive All Wheel Drive system was developed primarily to help sell more cars in the northern US, so it only makes sense to open a testing area in the US as well.
With temperatures that can drop to minus 55 degrees Fahrenheit, International Falls was chosen to mimic some of the worst weather a Jaguar or Land Rover will ever see. The grounds house testing chambers, various road surfaces and even a frozen lake. This new facility complements the hot-weather testing grounds in Phoenix, AZ.
The official press release is posted below.

Tata to get Jaguar and Land Rover tech, platforms too?

Tue, 22 Jul 2014

Since buying Jaguar Land Rover, Indian automaker Tata has generally left its luxury arm's platforms and technology alone. However, those days might be gone. The two of them are gradually growing closer with coordinated development and rumors of shared platforms. And it looks like all of that work and money is finally going to pay off with an actual vehicle in the near future.
According to Australian website Drive, Tata wants to make its cars more attractive to buyers outside of India, and to do that the company knows it must improve quality. The Indian company is being careful, though, because it doesn't want to dilute the Jaguar or Land Rover brands with cheap models. "You're going to see in the future a lot of sharing of technologies and platforms over time, but you won't see a JLR with a Tata badge on it," said Darren Bowler, managing director of Tata's Australian distributor, to Drive.
According to Bowler, these future vehicles are already on the way. Tata and JLR have a global platform in the works for 2017 that both companies could use for cars or crossovers. He also hinted that Jaguar's new Ingenium engines could be shared among the brands in the future, too.
