1995 Land Rover Discovery (manual Transmission) on 2040-cars
West Palm Beach, Florida, United States
This Rover has been driven wet and put away hard, but it has been loved and well maintained. It is NOT a daily driver and is only really happy when it's covered in mud. The 1995 Discovery is the last of the normally aspirated, mechanical ignition models and is therefore highly desirable as an off-road vehicle. Even more desirable is the five speed manual transmission (very rare in the USA.)
This Rover is street legal and registered in Florida. However, it is far from stock. The factory Discovery had a very narrow wheel base and low suspension geometry. This Discovery is three inches higher with new heavy-duty coil-over shocks and is five inches wider than it was when it left the factory (w/aluminum spacers.) It has four stock alloy rims with BFGoodrich Rugged Terrain tires (with less than five thousand miles on them.) The exhaust, rear of the cats, is less than two years old and was replaced with a custom, single magnaflow muffler. This modification provides a marked performance improvement without a marked increase in noise. All the running gear fluids were serviced annually, the break and clutch hydraulics are all less than two years old and the engine has received progressive maintenance and replacements which included new coil, new harness, new belts, new belt tensioner, and select electronic replacements. The starter motor is less than two years old and the ignition relay has been augmented with push button start. The interior is in fair physical condition for its age. The rear seats are factory split 70/30 where the single (driver side) can be removed to provide extra cargo space. The spongy lining under the carpet has been removed because it would retain moisture. The front seats are covered to protect the factory cloth, which is in good condition. The factory air and heat both blow cold and hot respectively, however, neither are ever used. The driver and front passenger window motor are less than two years old, however the rear window motor were deliberately disabled. The central locking system, the factory alarm and factory sound system have also been disabled. The bodywork is visibly in good condition with some corrosion. The frame is in excellent condition and still retains the factory anti-corrosion barrier. This Rover includes many extra accessories including a rear ladder, roof rack, off-road tool straps, Hella floods and a brush guards. If you are looking for a serious AWD TOY (that is not a Jeep,) this is your vehicle. Please don't buy it if you won't risk getting it stuck! |

Jaguar SUV mule doing Ring testing in Evoque clothes
Mon, 28 Apr 2014Jaguar has moved its Range Rover Evoque-bodied tests of the production C-X17 Concept from icy streets to the legendary Nürburgring, as work continues on the brand's first SUV.
Really, there's not a great deal of new stuff here. Based on the number plates, this is a different vehicle from the one we saw back in March, which we originally identified as the upcoming replacement for the Land Rover Freelander/LR2. The details, though, appear largely the same. The biggest distinction we can see between the March tests and this are the US-spec headlights, which add amber reflectors at their sides. Based on these shots, it does seem as if the C-X17 should be a fairly poised road vehicle, as the engineers hustle it around the 'Ring.
Of course, as soon our spies can capture images of a production-bodied C-X17, we'll be sure to pass those on to you. Until then, take a look up top for images of the Range Rover-bodied Jaguar as it tests at Germany's Nürburgring. You can also scroll down for our March images for the C-X17 mules testing on public roads.
Jaguar Land Rover in talks for Southern US factory
Mon, 20 Oct 2014Jaguar Land Rover is getting serious about global expansion, and that means it can't only build its vehicles in the UK anymore. The British automaker is cutting the ribbon at its new plant in China tomorrow, marking the opening of its first factory outside the UK. In 2016, it will open another factory in Brazil. But the latest intel has it that JLR is looking into a US factory, as well.
The report, which comes to us from the Sunday Times by way of Automotive News Europe, indicates that the company is evaluating locations for a North American factory, with options centering around Southern right-to-work states like South Carolina, where BMW operates its plant in Spartanburg and a wide array of other automotive operations are based as well. The JLR plant would reportedly ramp up to a capacity of 200,000 units per year.
In related news, while that new plant JLR is inaugurating in Changshu, China, is initially slated to produce the Range Rover Evoque, it is also expected to start building the new Discovery Sport as well - just like the Halewood plant in the UK that has handled Evoque assembly from the start and which just built its first Discovery Sport, as well.
Jaguar appoints Joe Eberhardt as North American President
Thu, 19 Dec 2013Jaguar Land Rover North America has appointed a new president, Joachim Eberhardt. The German exec, 50, had previously done stints at Chrysler Group, DaimlerChrysler UK, Mercedes-Benz USA and Daimler-Benz.
Eberhardt joins JLR NA in a good, but challenging time for the company. It's fresh off the launch of the Range Rover Sport and Jaguar F-Type, which have been subject to rave reviews, and its overall sales are up 21 percent over 2012. Still, as Automotive News points out, the two manufacturers face a fight to become the equal of A-list competitors like BMW and Mercedes in the eyes of consumers.
"Joe brings a proven industry track record and valuable global leadership experience in luxury sales, service and marketing. We look forward to Joe leading our North American team in working with our retail networks to further grow the business and better serve our customers," JLR's group sales operations director, Andy Goss, said.
