Up for auction is my 2003 Land Rover Discovery 2 with 95.720 actual miles on it.  I have owned this sporty Discovery for 2 years and it really is a blast to drive.  This Discovery handles very nicely on the tight, twisty curves we have in West Virginia and is ready for any adventure you may have in mind for it!

This Discovery has dual sunroofs that both work; tan leather interior; heated driver and passenger seats; automatic climate control with great heat and cold a/c; AM/FM/Cassette Player with 5 Disc CD changer (factory); cruise control; power locks; power windows; armrest /storage compartment; rear defrost; front heated windshield to melt frost; roof rack; and much more!

Since owning this Discovery, I have made several cosmetic and mechanical improvements to it.  Below is a list of recent upgrades/repairs that have been made:
  • Installed New General Grabber All Terrain tires 8,000 miles ago.  These tires were a MUST have for my Discovery with all the snow/sleet/ice we had in the mountains of WV this year and the Discovery handled like a champ.
  • I had my mechanic replace the following 9,000 miles ago:
  • Transmission fluid/filter was changed/replaced.
  • Two new 02 (oxygen) sensors were replaced
  • New spark plugs/wires
  • New serpentine belt
  • New valve cover gaskets
  • New intake & exhaust gaskets
  • New left and right hand side front window regulators
  • When I purchased this Discovery, the headliner was sagging so I had a brand new headliner installed.
  • All 4 of the interior door "skins" were reupholstered to their original condition.
This vehicle is a clean Discovery; it has never been smoked in.  I have never taken it off-road since owning it.  The engine is very strong and quiet; it does not leak any fluids nor does the engine smoke nor have any knock to it.  I have used synthetic oil in the vehicle since owning it (Castrol 5W-30) and have had the oil changed every 3,000 miles.  There are NO Instrument Warning Lights Illuminated on this Discovery (as you will often notice on several other Discovery's).  I replaced the instrument panel lights with LED lights so at night time, the dash is nice and bright; I also replaced all 3 interior light-bulbs with LED lights so the car lights up nicely at night time.  I also had an original Land Rover tow package and wiring installed on this Discovery.  I have taken pride in this vehicle since owning and I hope it shows.

My regular mechanic has informed me that it looks to him that the original engine has been removed and a rebuilt engine was installed at some point.  I cannot confirm this, but wanted to pass this info along to you...

As with any 11 year old vehicle, there is NO warranty with this vehicle as it is not in perfect condition.  The driver's seat had been ripped at one time and it was fixed (it was like this when I purchased it); when they fixed it, they did not do a fantastic job on it as it is still evident but the seat is NOT ripped nor torn.  I just wanted to point this out.  There are some scratches on the paint; there is a little surface rust that is beginning to show under the vehicle (please see included pictures) but it is not bad.

I have a clean title in hand.  The WV inspection on this Discovery is good until 11/14.  Has a clean CarFax; no accident/damage reported to CARFAX.

Please contact me if you have any questions.

Thanks for looking.

Ford's J Mays feels vindicated by Fusion reception

Tue, 25 Sep 2012

It's hard to think back now, but the same man overseeing the design of the 2013 Ford Fusion also presided over a rather lackluster period in Ford design, highlighted by vehicles like the Five Hundred and Freestyle. With the redesigned Fusion receiving high praise, J Mays tells Automotive News that he feels vindicated from criticisms suggesting he's not a daring enough designer.
When Mays took over as lead of design in 1997, he admits to having quite an ego ("My head would barely fit through the door some days. I've long since gotten over myself") and the workload to match. With the Blue Oval's portfolio full of premium brands like Aston Martin, Jaguar, Land Rover and Volvo at that point, along with the bread-and-butter Ford, Lincoln and Mercury models, Mays certainly had quite the challenge.
It was in the mid-2000s that Mays took over just the premium brands, and took on the new title of Chief Creative Officer. At the time, Mays endured some criticism for looking backwards to retro styling, rather than setting a new standard for American car design - criticism that Mays says he is free from with the all-new Fusion.

Jaguar demanding customer data from reluctant dealers

Tue, 25 Feb 2014

Nearly every major business is collecting consumer data these days, and keeping that data secure has come to the forefront of many customer's minds. Jaguar Land Rover North America's decision to begin requesting more customer info from its dealer network appears unfortunately timed, however. If it had come a few years ago, it might have been ignored, but in today's climate of heightened awareness, a few dealers are pushing back. To put the showrooms in an even tougher position, JLR NA is threatening to deny quarterly incentives if they do not turn over the customer data, according to Automotive News.
JLR NA instated the nationwide plan, which it calls Single View CRM, on February 7, but according to Stuart Schorr, Jaguar Land Rover North America Vice President of Communications, the automaker has been negotiating with its dealers to institute the new program for over a year. Schorr tells Autoblog that no financial information is being shared, noting that such data is limited to customer details, including things like what vehicles they own and whether they have any pending service. The initiative is meant to "improve customers' and owners' engagement with the brand," he said. Also, the company is not accessing dealer data itself; instead showrooms are asked to enter the info into JLR's database.

Jaguar Land Rover says key models in short supply, some have six-month wait lists

Fri, 08 Aug 2014

Care for a bit more proof that the Jaguar Land Rover portfolio of vehicles is the best it's ever been? Well, the Indian-owned pair of brands saw a record year in 2013, while 2014 has seen a 14-percent increase in sales. The crazy thing is, though, is that figure could be even higher, provided the company had the production capacity.
JLR is running a six-month waiting list on two of its most popular models, the Range Rover Sport (above) and Range Rover. According to Mark White, the company's chief technologist for body engineering, the blame can be placed on the paint shop at the company's Solihull factory, in the UK.
"We will probably max out the paint shop before we max out the body shop. Putting the second body shop in has given us the flexibility to ebb and flow the different models that go through there and meet the capacity demands we've got," White told Automotive News. "However, you always hit a bottleneck somewhere. And the paint shop is probably going to be the next biggest obstacle."
