This truck has been pretty good to me. It is in great mechanical shape and has no major issues. The only reason for the sale is that I am moving back to the east coast and don't want to make the drive again. This truck reliably gets me to the airport once or twice a month and around town every day. It has been well maintained and is in good shape to continue for another 100k miles. There is no appreciable rust or anything other than normal wear on the vehicle. The tires are in great condition with about 85% tread left. All maintenance items are done and up to date.
It has the good coil spring suspension, not the problematic air bags in the rear. It does not have any rust in the rear quarters, rear floor, or any of the other typical Discovery rust prone areas. Head gaskets were done at 130k so you won't need to deal with those for a long time. This is a 2004 so it has the coveted CDL and it works flawlessly as does low range. No sunroofs to leak.
It isn't perfect:
1) The rear wiper does not work (needs new wiper motor ($100).
2) The front door locks do not operate with the central locking button. You need to use the key or lock them by manually pushing down the lock button (needs new door lock actuators ($100/ea).
3) The rear windows are stuck in the up position. They will not roll down. I haven't looked into it but they probably need new window regulators ($60/ea). These issues have never bothered me enough to want to fix them.

Is Jaguar's 3 Series-fighter the brand's last chance?
Wed, 16 Oct 2013The upcoming line of compact 3 Series-fighters from Jaguar, often referred to as the Jaguar XS, could consist of a sedan, wagon and possibly a coupe and GT model (think BMW 5 Series GT). The car's all-aluminum architecture also will provide the basis for two new sports utility vehicles. Just how important is the much-touted "baby Jag" project to parent company Jaguar Land Rover? A JLR executive reportedly says the brand's survival is directly linked to the success of the XS, codenamed X760, Autocar reports.

"If the X760 fails, it will probably be the end for the [Jaguar] brand," the executive says. But Adrian Hallmark, Jaguar's global brand director, claims Jaguar will "build the most advanced, most efficient, most refined car in that [compact luxury sedan] segment. Not almost as good as, but better than the best in the world."
Jaguar Land Rover and Chery investing in Chinese plant
Sat, 24 Nov 2012While the European auto market for Jaguar and Land Rover is waning, Chinese car buyers can't get enough of the British marques. To meet that demand, Tata Motors, parent company of Jag and Land Rover, is partnering with Chinese automaker Chery Automobile Co.
The two announced plans to invest $1.75 billion to build a new plant and create a new, China-focused brand. 2014 is the target for completion of the factory. Jaguars and Land Rovers built at the facility will be the first ever produced outside the UK according to the Associated Press. The JV will be called Chery Jaguar Land Rover Automotive Company Ltd.
The announcement comes less than a month after JLR announced it would open a design studio in China. It's not clear from the reports whether the two announcements are part of the same JV or two separate plans.

Wed, 25 Sep 2013The success of Jaguar Land Rover in recent years has largely been down to a resurgent product lineup, but a recent move into the research and development will see the British-based, Indian-owned brands take the fight to its German rivals more aggressively than ever before.
JLR is investing 50 million pounds ($80,345,000, as of this writing) in a joint R&D center in central England. The move will more than triple its staff dedicated to research, from 150 to 500, with Wolfgang Epple, JLR's Director of Research and Technology telling Automotive News Europe, "In order to play among the big animals in automotive and to be anchored in the mind of customers you have to have offered something unique, to be first in market. We want to be one of the key premier automotive manufacturers."
Jaguar Land Rover's 50-million-pound contribution represents more than half of the 94-million-pound tab, on the so-called National Automotive Innovation Campus. Based at Warwick University, Tata's European Technical Center, Warwick Manufacturing Group and the Higher Education Funding Council, an agency of the British government, are all chipping in for the facility.
