1983 Land Rover Range Rover- Rare and unique pre-US import from Mexico-NO RUST! No troublesome ABS, power seats, power windows or sunroof that plague US models . This Rover was imported to California from Mexico in 1988. The 3.5 L engine was rebuit in 1998 and the dual carburators were replaced with a single edelbrock 4-barrel carb. The Rover has seen little to no use during the past 14 years. The drivers seat is torn at some of the stiching points but shows minimal wear as does the rest of the interior. Odometer reads 23642.   It needs a new battery and carb build to run. It has a clean carfax. Wears its original paint with age and minor imperfections as thinning paint and dings. With little work it would be roadworthy. I purchased it several years ago due to its rarity and hate to let it go, but I have recently moved and do not have facilities to properly store or maintain it. If you reside in an area where emissions are required, registration may be an issue. It does have a clear Alabama title. The actual Vin is not accepted by ebay's format  Vin #SALLHAMV4AA138876. No reserve. Bid to win.

Some details specfic to 1983 Range Rover

In equipping the Range Rover with automatic transmission, Land Rover engineers have retained the basic system of feeding power through the main (automatic) gearbox to a two-speed transfer gearbox incorporating a lockable differential. Power is then fed direct to the front and rear axels. The automatic Range Rover therefore retains the important feature of permanent four wheel drive, which contributes greatly to the vehicle's outstanding off-road performance and on-road security.
Tests revealed that the most suitable automatic transmission for the Range Rover was based on the Chrysler A727 unit. Gearboxes are bought in by Land Rover Ltd and a number of modifications carried out. These include sealing the gearbox against water ingress, providing alternative venting, and installing a special plate to mate the main gearbox with the engine.
A completely new design of transfer gearbox - the LT230R - has been developed by Land Rover engineers and is used for the first time in the automatic Range Rover. The heavy duty, two-speed box combines strength with lightness and provides permanent four wheel drive with selectable differential lock. The high and low ratio options are retained, as is the lockable centre differential, while a considerable reduction in noise levels is achived. Improved driveability and refinement also result from the new transfer box.
To meet the higher gearbox oil temperatures encountered in automatic transmission vehicles, a high capacity front-mounted gearbox oil cooler is fitted. As a further back-up, an oil temperature warning light is fitted in the instrument binnacle.
Other mechanicals, including the 3528cc V8 high compression engine and ancillaries, suspension and brakes, remain unchanged, maintaining the Range Rover's unique combination of unsurpassed off-road ability and refined on-road performance.
In developing the automatic option, fuel economy was a major consideration for Land Rover engineers. The high compression version of the V8 engine gave improvements in fuel econmy of up to 20% when announced in 1981. Extensive testing has ensured that the Chrysler gearbox matches as closely as possible the power characteristics of the V8 unit.
A conventional six position gear selector is mounted on the transmission tunnel, with the gears laid out in the usual manner (P:R:N:D:2:1). An unusual feature is that the gearchange from 1 to 2 is positively inhibited to eliminate the possibility of accidental selection during off-road driving. The transfer box control retains the High-Neutral-Low layout, but in the Range Rover automatic the same control is also used to engage the differential lock. This is achived by pushing the lever to the left in either high or low ratio.

Jaguar appoints Joe Eberhardt as North American President

Thu, 19 Dec 2013

Jaguar Land Rover North America has appointed a new president, Joachim Eberhardt. The German exec, 50, had previously done stints at Chrysler Group, DaimlerChrysler UK, Mercedes-Benz USA and Daimler-Benz.
Eberhardt joins JLR NA in a good, but challenging time for the company. It's fresh off the launch of the Range Rover Sport and Jaguar F-Type, which have been subject to rave reviews, and its overall sales are up 21 percent over 2012. Still, as Automotive News points out, the two manufacturers face a fight to become the equal of A-list competitors like BMW and Mercedes in the eyes of consumers.
"Joe brings a proven industry track record and valuable global leadership experience in luxury sales, service and marketing. We look forward to Joe leading our North American team in working with our retail networks to further grow the business and better serve our customers," JLR's group sales operations director, Andy Goss, said.

Jaguar Land Rover opens winter testing facility in Minnesota

Wed, 12 Dec 2012

As it begins the rollout of the all-wheel-drive Jaguar XJ and XF models, Jaguar Land Rover has just announced that it has opened a new facility in northern Minnesota for winter testing. Located in International Falls, MN (on the US and Canadian border), the British automaker says it is one of the coldest locations in the Continental US. Jaguar's new Instinctive All Wheel Drive system was developed primarily to help sell more cars in the northern US, so it only makes sense to open a testing area in the US as well.
With temperatures that can drop to minus 55 degrees Fahrenheit, International Falls was chosen to mimic some of the worst weather a Jaguar or Land Rover will ever see. The grounds house testing chambers, various road surfaces and even a frozen lake. This new facility complements the hot-weather testing grounds in Phoenix, AZ.
The official press release is posted below.

Jaguar opens new engine plant in the UK

Thu, 30 Oct 2014

The heads of Jaguar Land Rover are having a busy couple of weeks opening factories. Just days after inaugurating the company's first overseas plant in China, the automaker's new Engine Manufacturing Center in the UK is being inaugurated, as well. The plant near Wolverhampton, England, marks the first time in decades that JLR is building its own powerplants in-house. Further signaling the importance of this launch for the business, Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip were on hand and even tweeted about it.
The factory's first major project is to build JLR's latest Ingenium four-cylinders, starting with the 2.0-liter diesel version. "Our new Engine Manufacturing Centre is an important step in advancing the competitiveness and capability of the UK automotive sector. The production of in-house engines will support the expansion of the UK supply chain providing critical mass for inward investment," said Trevor Leeks, plant operations director in the automaker's announcement.
Opening the doors to the Engine Manufacturing Center has been years in the making for JLR. The plant was first announced in September 2011 and broke ground in June 2012. Building it cost the company 500 million pounds ($800 million) and created 1,400 new jobs. Of course, being a state-of-the-art factory, considerations were made to make the place as energy efficient as possible. That meant installing the UK's largest solar array with 21,000 panels to produce about 30 percent of the site's electricity needs.
