1992 Range Rover Classic Swb on 2040-cars

Year:1992 Mileage:153922

This is a very solid 1992 Land Rover, Range Rover Classic SWB. It is not a perfect truck (she's 20+ years old) but over all its a good, very low rust example of this rare vehicle that will make a great daily driver or candidate further restoration.

I have had a number of Land Rover's over the years so i have a good idea of the in's and outs of these trucks. I purchased this vehicle about a year ago with plans to convert it into a purpose built trail rig...however i just couldn't find the time to do much to or with it. I now am trying to make room in the RRC collection for a new one i just purchased so i'm putting this one up for sale. Below is the good and the bad:

  • Runs and drives well, particularly smooth and solid at highway speed
  • Shifts fine and goes in and out of hi/lo range no problems
  • Brakes, stops solid and firm
  • Very little corrosion or rust -- very small amount in the normal places for these rigs ie small bubblings on upper tail gate frame, small amount around tail gate, some corrosion of body where tail light guard was mounted, little various bits here and there but this is not at all a cancer victim with holes
  • Paint and body are as to be expected with an older vehicle -- some shine in paint still but showing its age...numerous little dings, dents, chips but nothing huge
  • Interior is fair I'd say. It's all there but again showing wear. some of the wood is chipped around shifter, the doors have some trim missing, headliner is starting to sag in an area or two, front leather is worn, back leather looks good
  • It has a rough idle (has since i got it), and as of 2 weeks ago the engine light came on, good chance it's the o2 sensor but i don't have time to try
  • has a new starter and battery as of this winter
  • front electric windows work fine, rear windows do not
  • sun roof had a small leak so i ran a bead of silicone around it until i could replace rubber -- but i never did
  • sometimes door locks "settle" and need to be unlocked again

Is Jaguar's 3 Series-fighter the brand's last chance?

Wed, 16 Oct 2013

The upcoming line of compact 3 Series-fighters from Jaguar, often referred to as the Jaguar XS, could consist of a sedan, wagon and possibly a coupe and GT model (think BMW 5 Series GT). The car's all-aluminum architecture also will provide the basis for two new sports utility vehicles. Just how important is the much-touted "baby Jag" project to parent company Jaguar Land Rover? A JLR executive reportedly says the brand's survival is directly linked to the success of the XS, codenamed X760, Autocar reports.
The brand's survival is directly linked to the success of the XS.
"If the X760 fails, it will probably be the end for the [Jaguar] brand," the executive says. But Adrian Hallmark, Jaguar's global brand director, claims Jaguar will "build the most advanced, most efficient, most refined car in that [compact luxury sedan] segment. Not almost as good as, but better than the best in the world."

Jaguar Land Rover building new Special Vehicle Operations facility

Sun, 17 Aug 2014

It's only been a couple of months since Jaguar Land Rover announced the formation of its new Special Operations division, and we've already seen a number of vehicles to come out of it. But now the British automaker has announced a new facility that will house its elite skunkworks department.
Set to be built at Prologis Park in Ryton, England, on the outskirts of Coventry, the new Special Vehicle Operations Technical Centre will encompass dedicated production lines, F1-style flexible workshops, a dedicated paint studio and VIP suite for commissioning bespoke projects. JLR will spend some $33 million on the facility that will be home to 150 specialists - 100 of them being new hires.
The first project which the Special Operations division is working on is the F-Type Project 7, but we've already seen more projects in the pipeline - including the upcoming Range Rover Sport SVR - and you can bet there'll be more. The revival of the Lightweight E-Type also falls under Special Operations, but is undertaken by the Jaguar Heritage department located nearby at Browns Lane.
