This is one for your collection.  After looking at the pictures you will know this is one of the finest 1948 Lincoln Continental Coupes you will find out there.  Thousands of dollars have been spent on this car during restoration, all documented in a 4 inch thick 3 ring binder, that includes every detail of EVERYTHING that has been done to this car.  The documentation not only covers the restoration and costs but it is complete manual to the operation and specifications of this car.  The manual itself is as amazing as the car.  A car like this does not come up for sale often, with only 395 units being built in 1948 this is truly a rare car.  It has been meticulously cared for and restored.  Please take the time to read thought the description and look carefully at the pictures. Enjoy!!!

History

I am listing this car for a good friend of mine.  He purchased the car from a gentleman who had put thousands of dollars into the car restoring it from 2003-2006.  I have records for the restoration he did on the car, pictures of the super solid car he started with and full documentation of the process.  The original restorer lovingly invested almost $40,000 dollars in the car.  Everything has been rebuilt or replaced only using top quality parts, from people like ECI, master power brakes, Genie, Flaming river, Lectra-Glide, Kearney, Edge, Nielson, Chassis Engineering and much much more.

Body

When my friend purchased the car it has been assembled and primed in Epoxy primer.  The car was then sent to a restoration shop in Wilson NC where the body was smoothed to perfection and buffed out to a show quality shine.  The paint job alone on the car cost $17500.  I am a restoration specialist by trade owning my own shop here in Richmond and I can tell you without a shadow of a doubt he got what he paid for from the guys in NC.  The paint was completed in 2006 and it has been inside and covered since.  The paint codes are in the 3 ring binder as well so you will know without question the colors are on the car.  Pay close attention to the following description: There are some places coming up on the roof of the car.  I am not sure what it really is, it could be surface rust, it could be a reaction or a delamination of the paint, I think it is the later.  It is very hard to photograph.  In my opinion the roof will need to be repainted to be perfect.  If you call me we can talk about it in greater detail.   All of the chrome has been re-plated and any trim part that needed polishing was polished.  You definitely do not want to have to foot the bill for the chroming!! Be glad it is already done.

Engine/Trans/Chassis

The engine itself is a complete work of art.  The engine 292 cubic inch V-12 has been fully rebuilt, with Edge pistons, a Nielson custom cam (250 degrees duration and 302 lift), Kearney Custom aluminum heads (the cost of these was $2500 alone), an Edmonds dual carb intake, Two Stromberg 97 carbs all polished and plated.  New rebuilt Lincoln Zepher water pumps added, a one wire alternator and a HI-TORQ starter from IMI Performance products .  The engine has 8.5-1 compression ratio and approximately 150 HP.  It runs like a sewing machine and starts every time.  The transmission is C-4 automatic which was fully rebuilt by Cottmans Transmission service (receipt included) and shift flawlessly.  It is topped off with a Genie shifter. A new drive shaft was mated to a 1956 Mercury rear with a 3.15-1 gear ratio to make cruising a pleasure.  The rear was fully rebuilt and rides of Chassis Engineering low rider springs in the rear.  The original front end was treated to a ECI front disc brake set up and a Master Power Brake booster and master cylinder was used to handle the stopping power.  Power steering was added to the car as well with a new Flaming River power steering gear and a GM style power steering pump. The car rides on original style steel wheels wrapped in 225/75/15 wide whites.

Interior

The interior was all redone in a burgundy naugahyde with velour inserts and door panels.  It complements the exterior perfectly and was done to look and complement the original style.  Included in the book that comes along with the car are swatches of the material used with their manufactures brand name and codes/part numbers for future reference.  The wiper system was updated with a New Port Engineering  vacuum wiper system that is fed by a separate Vacuum pump so the wipers will always have the proper vacuum needed to operate. Lectra Glide power window units were installed as well and work perfectly.  The seats are very comfortable and the cabin has that luxurious feeling that you only get from a Lincoln.

Summary

All in all this is an exceptional vehicle that had thousands of dollars spent on the restoration.  It has been meticulously done and is road ready.  I think you will be hard pressed to find another ’48 Lincoln that you can drive, show and enjoy more than this one.  It still has all of the original prominence but has been modernized a bit to offer a few more creature comforts.  I encourage you to come and look at the car for yourself.

Ford issues four recalls covering 163k vehicles

Tue, 19 Aug 2014

Recalls! 2014 will be forever remembered as the year that automakers went recall crazy, with millions and millions of vehicles adding up to crush previous recall records well before the end of the year. Adding to that tally is Ford, which announced a call-back for 163,000 vehicles.
Leading that charge are the 2.0-liter, EcoBoost four-cylinder engines of the Ford Focus ST and Ford Escape. 160,000 of the 2013 and 2014 models have bad wiring harnesses that can disrupt the signals traveling to the powertrain control module. That, in turn, could lead to a check engine light, reduced power and stalling. Notably, Ford hasn't recalled any other vehicles that feature the 2.0 EcoBoost, such as the Fusion, Taurus or Explorer.
While the Focus ST and Escape constitute the vast majority of recalled vehicles, they aren't the only problem children in the Ford family. 1,300 Transit passenger vans from model year 2015 were recalled due to brake fluid leaks, while another 600 Transit cargo variants were recalled after Ford discovered the windowless sliding doors could come open in the event of a side-impact crash. Dealers will replace the sealing washers on the passenger variants and add a reinforcement plate on the cargo models, The Detroit News reports.

Lincoln to resurrect old nameplates for China?

Wed, 04 Dec 2013

Judging by the success that many luxury automakers are currently experiencing in China, it's no surprise that Lincoln plans to take advantage of the situation by peddling its wares across the Pacific. Lincoln will open its first Chinese dealership next year, but potential buyers there won't be mucking through the same alphabet soup of car names found in American showrooms. USA Today reports that Ford's luxury car division could revert back to legacy names (like Continental and Zephyr) in China while keeping the MK_ names here in North America.
In speaking to Ford exec Jim Farley during the LA Auto Show, USA Today says that Lincoln could switch its naming structure as models are refreshed. Farley didn't confirm that the naming revamp would be a China-only decision, but article leaves little hope that American buyers will get to see the return of classic names anytime soon.
Why would Ford rehash old Lincoln names for China only? Buyers there seem to have a better historical associations with the nameplates than in the US. Chinese also still hold Lincoln in high regard, associating the marque with use by prominent government officials.

J Mays retiring from Ford design, succeeded by Moray Callum

Tue, 05 Nov 2013

Ford's highly influential head of design, J Mays, has announced that he'll be retiring from his position after 33 years in the industry, 16 of which were at the Dearborn, MI-based company. Upon departure, he'll be succeeded as group vice president of design by Moray Callum. If that last name sounds familiar, yes, he's the brother of Jaguar's Ian Callum.
It's difficult to explain just how big of a role Mays had on not just Ford's design over the years, but on the entire industry. Before heading to Dearborn, Mays worked for Audi, BMW and then Volkswagen, where he was involved in concept cars that paved the way for design icons like the first-generation Audi TT and the Volkswagen New Beetle. As for his Ford resume, it's extensive.
Mays joined the company in 1997 as design director for Ford, Lincoln, Mercury and Mazda, as well as the Premier Automotive Group (Volvo, Land Rover, Jaguar and Aston Martin). He was heavily involved in the Ford Fusion, Focus, Fiesta, Taurus, F-150 and Mustang, while also contributing to concept cars like the Atlas, Evos, 427, Forty-Nine, Shelby GR-1, Lincoln MKZ and the MKC.
