1963 Lincoln Continental on 2040-cars
Palos Verdes Peninsula, California, United States
Vehicle Title:Clear
Model: Continental
Drive Type: rear wheel
Mileage: 145,000
Trim: continental
This car has been in my family since new. I received it in 1991. It had not been driven since 1974. Over the last 22 years I have spent around $12,000 not including paint. I have receipts from Baker, Lincoln Land, etc. The car is basically original. I have replaced shocks, rear springs, windshield, weatherstripping, glove box, exhaust, freeze plugs, and everything you would think a car that sat for seventeen years would need. Gas tank was removed, all brake parts are new, carb, water pump, generator. Car runs great and does not smoke. I have gone as long as a year without driving it and always starts up and runs well. The wood on the doors and glove box are new. Coker radials, vinyl interior, lots of chrome work (door handles, hockey sticks, rear fender pieces, headlight rims) I rebuilt all the window switches and they work great. New rubber in wind wings. The paint job was $6,000 but there is rust appearing in the doors. I recently needed brake drums and was not able to locate any. I machined the drums and built shoes but they squeak when hot. Now the dutens in the steering column will not allow you to downshift into low. The transmission works well otherwise and you can drive the car but I have had enough. Priced to sell as is. Please feel free to call me with any questions. Ken Dunn 1 310 938 8280

Ford rethinking vehicle launch strategy
Tue, 07 May 2013With a new boss at the helm, Ford is looking at new ways to improve its vehicle launches in North America to prevent recent issues that have popped up with models like the Lincoln MKZ, Ford Escape and Ford Fusion. Speaking with Automotive News, Ford's new president of the Americas, Joe Hinrichs, revealed a few ways the automaker plans to avoid early build issues such as the engine fires on certain 2013 Escape and Fusion models and months-long delays for customers to receive their MKZs.
It sounds like the root of the problems may have been Ford's relationship with suppliers compounded by the fact that the product surge came on the heels of the recent industry-crippling recession, and in the AN article, Hinrichs says improvements are being made to reduce problems during the launch of new or redesigned models. Three such improvements that were implemented during the first quarter of this year including more rigorous quality comparisons, better use of computer technology to catch major problems sooner and hiring engineers to work closer with suppliers.
RWD Lincolns are coming, fate depends partly on MKZ success
Tue, 04 Dec 2012The product portfolio at Lincoln may seem a bit sparse at the moment, but if a report is to be believed, new products are on the way. TheDetroitBureau.com spoke with sources at Lincoln and Ford, who claimed the American premium brand is working on, perhaps more than one, rear-wheel-drive vehicle.
Lincoln would likely platform-share with the next-generation Ford Mustang to develop those RWD offerings in the early going. Moving forward, the report indicates that Lincoln could take the lead on other rear-drive projects in the future. As the RWD architecture continues to take shape, "most or all" of the front-wheel-drive portfolio will also be offered with all-wheel drive as an option, ala Audi.
But wait, there's more! The report also suggests that a replacement for the full-size MKS is on the way, as well as a new Navigator and a luxury crossover based on the current Ford Escape.
Lincoln says MKZ supply crisis over
Mon, 25 Mar 2013After an excessive number of recalls on the 2013 Escape and Fusion, we can't really fault Ford for being a little extra cautious with the launch of the 2013 Lincoln MKZ. Last month, we reported that dealer supply of the car was extremely limited due to more attention being paid to quality checks of cars rolling off the assembly line, which led to a 73-percent drop in MKZ sales from last year on top of a 32-year low in monthly sales for Lincoln in January.
The reason for the delay was that the sedans were being shipped from the Hermosillo, Mexico assembly plant to be inspected even closer at Ford's Flat Rock, Michigan plant before they were able to head to dealers. Things seem to be straightening out for Lincoln and the MKZ's production now, as Automotive News is reporting that supply should be up to a "normal level" by the end of this month.
