The 2007 five-passenger Lincoln MKX crossover utility vehicle emphasizes on-road performance and interior space and versatility. The Lincoln MKX combines a contemporary, somewhat sporty exterior look--with large chrome wheels, chrome trim, and an arched roofline--with traditional American luxury styling cues inside. The interior is trimmed in wood and "satin nickel," and there's a "cool white" theme for interior lighting. The interior promises to be especially quiet and comfortable. The Lincoln MKX has thicker sound insulation than most other vehicles in its class, and both rows of seating are sized for full-size adults. For expanded cargo space, the back seats--which can be reclined 15 degrees for comfort--fold forward easily via an Easy Fold remote switch (which comes as part of an option package). There are also several useful smaller storage areas, including a center console sized for laptops. The rear liftgate has a unique lighting system featuring LEDs inside and out, surrounding the Lincoln emblem. And overhead, an available panoramic vista roof allows a significant portion of the roof to be open to the sky.The Lincoln MKX includes front side-impact air bags and full-length side-curtain air bags as standard. The safety canopy system for the curtain bags assures protection during rollover situations, while the AdvanceTrac with roll stability control helps avoid those situations in the first place. Anti-lock brakes are also standard. Heated and cooled seats in front. adaptive projector-beam headlamps that help illuminate into a corner and 600-watt THX II audio system. There's only one engine available on the Lincoln MKX, a 265-horsepower, 3.5L V6, paired with a six-speed automatic. The AWD system has been tuned for all-weather on-road driving, and can reroute torque as needed even before wheel slippage occurs. Fuel economy, at 17 city, 22 highway, is good, especially compared with the truck-based Aviator it replaces.

Dodge Dart falls short of Consumer Reports Recommended, Caddy XTS and Lincoln MKS, too
Thu, 22 Nov 2012The Dodge Dart, Cadillac XTS and Lincoln MKS all failed to earn a "Recommended" rating from Consumer Reports. When it came to the compact Dart, the organization's testers thought the vehicle offered a quiet cabin, solid-feeling chassis and nimble suspension, but the new model ultimately fell short of the coveted rating due to powertrain issues. The institute's reviewers found the base 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine to be underpowered and noted "drivability issues" when the available turbocharged 1.4-liter four was paired with the optional dual-clutch transmission (some of our editors disliked it paired with the six-speed manual). CR also dinged the latter powerplant for sounding "raspy." For what it's worth, we think the forced-induction engine offers an excellent and playful exhaust note, but that's just us.
As for the XTS, CR lauded the car for its luxurious cabin, but the vehicle's experience was dulled by its finicky CUE infotainment interface. Overall, the big Cadillac scored much higher than its cross-town rival from Lincoln. While testers found the American luxury sedan to offer a quiet ride and quality fit and finish, they felt the MKS delivered a "cramped driving position, ungainly handling, uncomposed ride, and limited visibility." Ouch. At the end of the day, both cars fell short of rivals from Japan, Germany and Korea. Check out the full press release below with more details, along with CR's musings on the Chevrolet Spark and Lexus ES.

Lincoln says MKZ supply crisis over
Mon, 25 Mar 2013After an excessive number of recalls on the 2013 Escape and Fusion, we can't really fault Ford for being a little extra cautious with the launch of the 2013 Lincoln MKZ. Last month, we reported that dealer supply of the car was extremely limited due to more attention being paid to quality checks of cars rolling off the assembly line, which led to a 73-percent drop in MKZ sales from last year on top of a 32-year low in monthly sales for Lincoln in January.
The reason for the delay was that the sedans were being shipped from the Hermosillo, Mexico assembly plant to be inspected even closer at Ford's Flat Rock, Michigan plant before they were able to head to dealers. Things seem to be straightening out for Lincoln and the MKZ's production now, as Automotive News is reporting that supply should be up to a "normal level" by the end of this month.
