If you are looking for an exotic sports car for a less than exotic sports car price tag, this is the one! I bought this car for my husband last October after many years of him dreaming of owning one. We had been looking for several years, and when I ran across this one, it had everything we wanted and I felt it was an even better deal than the 30-35k we were planning on spending previously. This car has been nothing but fun since the day it arrived, but sadly, it sits in the garage 95% of the time. We are a family with 3 young girls, we own 3 other vehicles, and the only time this one sees the light of day is on an occasional Sunday drive. My husband initially wanted a lotus as his daily driver on his 1 hour commute to and from work, but soon realized he would prefer his automatic in rush hour traffic every day. I will say, though, that there is nothing like it on the road! People look at us as if we are driving a spaceship! Everywhere we go, people stop us for pictures, and we often come out of the store to find a crowd around it. It's quite entertaining and fun! We have owned several exotic sports cars, and this one, by far, gets way more attention than anything else we've had.
Basically, what you see is what you get. The car currently has about 58,000 miles, has been garage kept, and is in excellent condition both mechanically and physically. Ohlin adjustable front and back, a $3,500 upgrade, rear diffuser upgraded exhaust, new tires, new clutch, new brake pads, new battery. The car had a full custom paint job right before we purchased it, as well as new LOTUS badges front and back. The car is ready to drive around town or take to the track! Of course, this car was built to race but the AC works wonderfully. Mechanically, there is nothing at all wrong with the car that we are aware of. It has driven like a dream the entire time we have owned it. It's FAST and fun! The exterior has a few (maybe 2-3) very small rock "chips" on the lower side panels below the doors. You honestly wouldn't notice them unless you were inspecting. The cloth top is in good condition and operates as intended with no issues. The interior is in good condition, but does show some minimal wear on the seats. As most people who are familiar with an Elise know, there aren't a lot of bells and whistles on the inside… as it is built as a race car. It does have an upgraded stereo system/CD player. There is a small crack on the dash that has been glued, and isn't very noticeable, but I will include photos so you have an idea. Watch the Lotus Esprit evolve from 1976 to 2004
Tue, 21 Jan 2014Seeing a model as long-lived as the Lotus Esprit evolve over time generally requires some clever photography or graphical work, kind of like this. This video doesn't require any of that trickery, though, because it features every single model year of Espirt in one glorious row of awesome British cars.
Taken at the 2013 Lotus Festival at Brands Hatch in the UK, it features Esprits from 1976 all the way to its last model year in 2004. It really puts into perspective the slow evolution of the mid-engined, wedge-shaped Lotus, as it went from a very 1970s design to something decidedly more modern.
We've got the full video below, which starts with a red 1976 model, travels down the line to a silver 2004 Esprit, and then all the way back to the original. Take a look, and let us know what you think.
Lotus C-01 motorcycle shows its carbon-fiber face
Thu, 16 Jan 2014Well, this isn't exactly what we were expecting. The images you see above come from Motorcycle News in the UK and are apparently official renderings of what the upcoming Lotus C-01 motorcycle will look like. As you can see, it's sort of a power cruiser, with a raked-out front end and extremely wide rubber out back.
Power will reportedly come from a liquid-cooled V-twin engine sourced from KTM, similar to the one used in the Austrian's brand's own RC8R, but tuned to produce around 200 horsepower. It appears that the powertrain and all its related necessities will be housed in a carbon fiber monocoque (whether the bodywork serves as a stressed member or not, we can't say) in a traditional-looking black (really, exposed carbon fiber weave) and yellow color scheme.
From the looks of these renderings, the C-01 might be intended as a competitor for the Ducati Diavel and ought to be very quick in a straight line. We're not so sure that's what a motorcycle wearing the Lotus badge should be, even if its builders are only using the marque's name under license, but we're looking forward to seeing the final result in production trim.
Lotus announces race-ready Exige V6 Cup and Cup R
Fri, 11 Jan 2013Lotus has pulled off the wraps on two new versions of the Exige: the V6 Cup and the V6 Cup R. Based on the Exige S, the V6 Cup is built to be a dual-purpose street and track machine. The 0-60 dash should take just under 3.8 seconds thanks to a full 345 horsepower from a supercharged 3.5-liter V6 engine. Weighing in at 2,380 pounds, the V6 Cup should be an absolute riot to drive, and with a full FIA-approved roll cage, fire extinguisher and six-point race harnesses on board, it's plenty safe, too. Two-way adjustable dampers are standard, as are AP Racing four-piston calipers on all four corners. More importantly, drivers can expect to find the Lotus Dynamic Performance Management system in the cockpit, complete with Touring, Sport and DPM Off modes.
The V6 Cup R, meanwhile, is both lighter and offers more horsepower than the standard V6 Cup. The same blown V6 dishes out 366 horsepower in R trim, and the whole contraption tips the scales at 2,292 pounds. Of course, the same spate of race hardware is stock, minus the DPM system. A lightweight battery, track-spec tow loops and quick-release engine cover help separate the Cup R from its more civil sibling, as do performance brake pads and better oil and water cooling systems.
