Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina, United States
A supercar for a super price! There's just nothing like a Twin Turbo Lotus Espirt... Looks the part and performs just as well. I've owned this vehicle for almost a year and it is a well sorted daily driver. Extras include keyless entry with alarm system, MOMO steering wheel, upgraded tail lights (to 2002 style), aftermarket exhaust, new clutch, new timing belt, tinted windows, new tires, and custom SAF forged alloy wheels. Yes, SAF forged wheels! These are not cheap and look great!! Recent oil change and spark plugs. The standard removable glass sunroof is included. The pictures tell the story! Car runs and sounds great.
Clear title is in hand so sh'es ready for a new home. If you wish to arrange a test drive, you must be financially pre-qualified. The vehicle is located in Wilmington, NC at present. Ask questions or inspect her before you bid as I am moving and need to make one and only one successful sale. $1000 deposit is due within 48 hours of winning bid and payment in full with title transfer should be within 7 days for our mutual benefit. The car is for sale locally, so I reserve the right to cancel the E-Bay bid if I find a local buyer. Vehicle is sold "as is" with no warranty which is typical for used cars sold by a private individual. I won't export outside the US, so transportation if needed is your responsibility and expense. Lotus Exige S tears the roof off
Tue, 14 Jan 2014Some things just don't make sense. But then we're not sure they really have to. Imagine Porsche took the Cayman, which is essentially the coupe version of the Boxster, and turned it into a convertible. Wouldn't make much sense, would it? Well that's essentially what Lotus did with the creation of the Exige S Roadster.
The Exige, you see, was already the fixed-roof version of the Elise. So what was the point in turning it back into a roadster? That's what our friends at XCar tried to ascertain in the video below. We could tell you what conclusion they arrived at, but that would spoil all the fun. So we'll just let you enjoy the seven-minute clip and see for yourself. Just remember: it doesn't have to make sense. It just has to be a Lotus.
Elon Musk buys James Bond's Lotus submarine, wants to install Tesla powerplant
Fri, 18 Oct 2013Remember when we reported the long-lost-but-found-again Lotus Esprit submarine used in the James Bond film The Spy Who Loved Me had sold at auction in London for $966,560 (well, $863,000 plus a 12-percent buyer's premium)? At the time, the buyer's identity remained a mystery, but Jalopnik has reported and confirmed that the man with money to burn is none other than billionaire Elon Musk, CEO of both Tesla Motors and SpaceX. What's even more shocking (maybe not for Musk) is that he wants to install a Tesla electric powertrain in it and make it transform into a road-going car.
The story of the submersible Lotus' journey from movie star to prized possession of the eccentric Musk is remarkable. After filming ended in the '70s, the car was shipped to Long Island, NY and placed in a storage container that was paid in advance by the studio for 10 years. After the money ran out, the contents of the container were sold off Storage Wars-style in 1989 and won by an area couple. It was shown in public on occasion throughout the years, but its value remained a mystery until the gavel fell in London last month. While far from the most valuable Bond car to be auctioned off (that honor goes to the Aston Martin DB5 used in Goldfinger and Thunderball, which sold for $4.6 million at auction in 2010), the Lotus submarine is definitely the most unique.
Also worth noting is that the Lotus sub is more than just a prop. Without the aid of CGI, the film's producers needed an actual submarine that looked like a Lotus Esprit, and so they hired a company called Perry Oceanographic in Florida to build it and hired former US Navy Seal Don Griffin to pilot the sub during the film.
Lotus hits the track with new Elise S Cup R
Mon, 11 Nov 2013If you want to take a Lotus to the track but the Exige V6 Cup is a bit too much to handle, the boys from Hethel have a new offering that may be of interest.
The new Elise S Cup R features all the track-tuned bells and whistles of its six-cylinder brethren, including a competition-spec aero kit, adjustable suspension, Yokohama racing slicks on 17-inch forged alloys, tow hooks, remapped ECU, cross-drilled and ventilated disc brakes and an interior with a HANS-compatible bucket seat, six-point racing harness and quick-release steering wheel. But instead of a heavier and more powerful V6, the Elise S Cup R "adds lightness" with the same 1.8-liter supercharged inline-four with 217 horsepower and 181 pound-feet of torque as the road-going Elise S. Yet with all that track-tuned gear, it's a good four seconds per three-mile lap faster than the showroom stock version in the automaker's testing.
Interested parties can pick one up in the UK for £39,125 (before taxes, equivalent to about $63k) and either lap it to their hearts' content at private track days or enter it in one of the dozen Lotus Cup series operating around the world. Lotus only released this one photo (click above to enlarge), but you can check out the full specs in the press release below.
