Original 1960's Vintage Lotus 20/22 Formula Race Car Simulator on 2040-cars

For your consideration is a vintage Lotus 20/22 Formula Race Car Simulator Chassis and Body. Lotus produced a number of these simulators in the 1960's and used them at race events and trade shows to showcase their racing cars. The simulator consisted of a full size Lotus race car chassis which sat on a stand before a curved screen. A projector was used to produce an image on the screen ahead of the car and driver. Steering inputs moved the projector through a cable and pulley system simulating left/right steering inputs as the driver "drove" around the track. Very primative by modern standards but quite novel in its day. I am offering the chassis and body partially restored. The simulator is disassembled and will require assembly and some work to complete. The body was restored some time in the past. The orginal gel coat was sanded down and the body re-sprayed in a dark Lotus green with yellow stripe. The paint has chips, cracks, scrapes on the belly pan, and bubbling on some of the uppper surfaces. The frame was originally built on a Lotus 31 jig. It does not contain the standard number of tubes and therefore cannot be used for racing purposes. I emphasize this for anyone thinking that this can be converted into an actual race car; it cannot. The remaining suspension and steering components are actual vintage Lotus parts with a few exceptions. Some components are simulator specific. There are quite a few simulator related components missing but the actual frame, body, and suspension components that allow you to assemble a full size Lotus that will roll and steer are there. This is a great project for a vintage racing fan. Photos showing the complete race car on wheels are not current and are included only to show what it will look like when re-assembled. I will be adding additional photos over the coming days. Condition: This is a vintage item. The fiberglass body panels have surface cracking, checking, scrapes, chips, and bubbling in paint. Tubular steel frame has been sand blasted and powdercoated. Frame members show areas of pitting from previous corrosion and may have internal corrosion. Wishbones, links, and radius arms have been replated in nickel and show signs of pitting from previous surface corrosion. Exhaust manifolds powercoated and exhaust pipe re-plated in nickel. Steel wheels are unrestored and have rim dents and dings and areass of light surface corrosion. Leather covered instrument panel and steering wheel in Lotus red. Black fiberglass bucket seat. Many other parts have been restored and repainted. The "car" portion of the simulator is about 95% complete but some small parts are missing. This is the chassis and body only. There are no other simulator parts included (vehicle stand, projector, screen system, etc). The title field shows "Water Damage" as there is no title for this item. This was never an actual motor vehicle. This simulator is disassembled and will require re-assembly. Shipping: I will not ship this item. Local pick up only. The body and frame are about 12 feet long. The rest fits nicely in a few large boxes. Total weight probably 300-400 lbs. |

Lotus Motorcycles C-01 now 'ready for the road'
Thu, 20 Feb 2014When we first laid eyes on leaked images of the Lotus Motorcycles C-01, we wondered if its laid-back, sport cruiser shape was really appropriate for a motorcycle bearing any connection with Colin Chapman and the company's famous "add lightness" mantra. We've now seen official pictures of the bike in multiple color schemes, including classic black and gold, British racing green and even a variant that resembles Martini livery, and while we think it looks pretty cool, our opinion hasn't really changed.
Perhaps we shouldn't be surprised that the C-01 isn't an embodiment of the Lotus ethos, as the company that intends to build it isn't really Lotus at all, its builders - German racing firm Kodewa and tuner Holzer Group - merely having licensed the name of the British sportscar maker. It was designed by Daniel Simon, who once worked for Volkswagen and consulted for Bugatti and is the man credited with creating the reborn Tron Light Cycles. Still, looking past its questionable heritage, the C-01 looks pretty darn awesome, and there are some interesting bits that have us looking forward to the production version that's reportedly due within the next two months.
As expected, power comes in at 200 horsepower, courtesy of a modified version of KTM's 1,195-cc V-twin engine. The chassis is made up of steel, titanium and carbon fiber, with a seat height of about 28 inches. Its wheelbase, at about 65 inches, is a full 10 inches longer than a real street-legal superbike, and its front end is raked way out in front with a 19-inch wheel. Those dimensions mean we shouldn't expect much racetrack prowess, unless its rider is only planning on going in a straight line. Indeed, with a claimed dry weight of under 400 pounds, the Lotus Motorcycles C-01 ought to be mighty quick down the quarter mile.
Lotus could build production versions of Renault Alpine, Infiniti Emerg-E
Tue, 14 Aug 2012As with one of those blockbuster three-team NBA trades that actually improves the fortunes of every team involved, a report in Autocar indicates that Renault, Infiniti and Lotus are in talks that could benefit both manufacturers and enthusiasts. Renault is considering a production version of the devil-in-blue Alpine A110-50 concept but has said that it "probably needs more than the Renault-Nissan Alliance on its own." Enter Lotus, whose Evora platform could supply the running bits for the mid-engined Alpine revival.
That same Evora platform, in range-extended 414E concept form, is the basis for the Infiniti Emerg-E concept. Even though a decision hasn't been made on the Emerg-E's production, it is still being developed and the company has admitted that it "could be built in Britain." For its part, Lotus has said that it's ahead of schedule on the Evora 414E, with its 408 horsepower, 738 pound-feet of torque and 30-mile electric range. Development funds from both Renault and Infiniti could help make all three cars a closer possibility.
Coca-Cola returning to F1 with Lotus sponsorship [w/videos]
Sat, 24 Nov 2012Even before Red Bull Racing became a record-breaking three-time Constructor's Champion in Formula One, it has dominated conversations both as a team and as an energy drink. After seven years of "Red Bull this" and "Red Bull that," Coca-Cola is reportedly ready to jump into the F1 fray with its Sweden-based energy drink Burn.
Rumors had placed Coca-Cola's entry with McLaren F1, but it's actually Lotus that has secured the deal. We have no idea what the sponsorship will look like, but the website for Burn says that "We [intend] to foster that creativity by incorporating art and music in a way that will break the conventions of traditional F1 sponsorship," Lotus F1 team principal Eric Boullier adding "We are excited to partner with burn to build a new and innovative model for sponsorships that will combine experiences, content creation and social media..."
