1972 Lotus Elan "S" +2 Big Valve

Thank you for your interest. I purchased this vehicle with the intent of having it fully restored, and have begun some of the basics toward this goal. Over the past several months I have spent several thousand dollars making the car road worthy at a reputable car restoration company that specializes in antique and vintage vehicles. Unfortunately, my physical height has deterred me from pursuing this goal. I am 6'6" tall and am not comfortable in this car, despite toying with the idea of relocating the seats. As much as I would love to keep this car, I cannot justify the expense for something that I cannot operate.

This car was purchased in a non-running condition and essentially this was a barn find. An older gentleman had the car for years and was part of a larger collection of cars, some completed projects and others waiting indefinitely. After several weeks of chasing him and the car, it was mine. The car has aged gracefully and is not perfect by any standard, however I purchased this car because it has great potential and will be a joy for the new owner. I will describe this vehicle to the best of knowledge and try to convey these findings honestly. However, due to the inherent nature of purchasing a vehicle of over 40 years, this Lotus will be sold as-is, where-is. Most of the issues are typical of older fiberglass cars. Appointments to see the car in person are more than reasonable and can be made upon request. The car is being stored at the restoration facility in Campbell, CA.

Engine and Transmission:
Engine starts easily, idles well, runs great, great oil pressure, no bottom end noise. Really is a great runner.
- At some point, due to the age and unknown prior history, the timing chain should be replaced.
New Carburetor Rebuild and Tune
Clutch and Transmission in good condition, smooth shifting, no grinds, positive clutch engagement
Brakes Rebuilt
-New pistons, seals and brake lines.
New Dual brake boosters and
Fuel tank flushed and cleaned
Fuel Pump providing good fuel pressure
New Battery

Interior:

Front and Rear seats in great condition. Vinyl is intact, no tears or significant wear.
Leather interior trim in good shape.
Dash laminate is cracking throughout, needs to be restored.
Leather trim under steering wheel needs replacing
Radio is non-functioning
Window motors are slow and probably need better grounding
Headliner and B-pillar leather show stains
Dash has some cracking but otherwise in good shape
Needs carpet kit for discerning buyers

Exterior:
Weather stripping good aged condition (some cracking)
Paint in good condition as a vintage respray. Age of respray unknown. Typical fiberglass body issues with the paint. The car exhibits stress cracks along seems, but mostly isolated to the roof. Also a few knicks, dings and blemishes around the vehicle but all in all the car looks good.
No rust- California car
Missing lower bumper trim and foglight
Front chrome trim bumper hit an object and is slightly bent
Electrical system needs TLC. Again, a common issue with a fiberglass vehicle.
Most lights do not function or function correctly. Turn signal, brake lights, etc. Needs parts like a brake light switch, available for $7.00
Headlight vacuum mechanism needs service
Wheels are in good condition with matching spare

This car to me is a wonderful platform to build a great car. It needs some TLC, but it is a fun and exciting vehicle.

I have thought long and hard about selling this vehicle as I already have so much time and money into her, but it is time to move on.

Please contact me and I can provide video showing the car running.

International shipping inquries, please contact before bidding.

Lotus Evora 'Sports Racer' is oddly named and fully loaded

Thu, 20 Dec 2012

Lotus has just announced a new Evora 'Sports Racer' model that is, well, frankly not much more sporty or racy than the standard Evora or Evora S. Instead, the British company calls the Sports Racer a "visually enhanced and optimized version" of both the Evora and supercharged Evora S. To unpack that a little: The new trim will get a new set of unique exterior colors and a revised interior treatment, and it's fully decked out with options.
The 'Sports Racer' will be available in the buyer's choice of Carbon Grey, Nightfall Blue and the Ardent Red that you see in the image above (the only image we've seen of the car so far). Gloss black accents set the model apart and can be seen on the roof, forged wheels, mirrors and rear badges. Inside, one may choose between black-leather sports seats with red piping and stitching, or a Venom Red leather interior with black piping and stitching. How naughty.
In terms of tech, the 'Sports Racer' gets Lotus' Sports Pack and its remapped throttle response, higher redline, more powerful cross-drilled brakes and a more aggressively programmed Dynamic Performance Management system. The stereo system is also upgraded from the basic Evora, with a DVD player and seven-inch touchscreen display thrown in for good measure.

Lotus Esprit cancelled? [UPDATE]

Thu, 04 Oct 2012

Two years ago, we were gobsmacked when humble Lotus shocked the automotive world by wheeling out no fewer than five new models - admittedly in various stages of development - at the 2010 Paris Motor Show. The ambitious onslaught of new sheetmetal came at the behest of then-CEO Danny Bahar who aimed to broaden the British marque's appeal by dramatically expanding its portfolio. Bahar was later thrown out by new Malaysian owners DRB-Hicom in a management shakeup that seems to still be, well, shaking out. Bahar was deposed over accusations of financial wrongdoing and the controversial executive has fired back with a $10.6M lawsuit.
Against this chaotic background, a cornerstone of Lotus' revival plans hinged on the rebirth of its Esprit supercar (shown in 2010 concept form above). According to new reports, however, the Esprit has been cancelled, a victim of the company's uncertain finances and direction. Depending on which rumor you choose to believe, the two-seat coupe was slated to receive a house-built V8 and possibly turbocharging or hybrid power. That may all be moot now, however, as DRB-Hicom is reported to have scrapped Bahar's plans wholesale, a development that apparently includes killing off the mid-engined Esprit, too.
UPDATE: And this, friends, is why we have this story with a question mark and a Rumormill tag - Lotus is denying that the Esprit has been killed off.

Lotus F1 apologizes for tweeting support for LGBT Olympians

Mon, 10 Feb 2014

The Lotus Formula One Team is apologizing after its official Twitter account posted this image of two men kissing in connection to the opening of the Winter Olympics on Friday, February 7. It claims that the original tweet was "unauthorized."
The tweet, which Lotus deleted later that day, can be viewed to the right and was promptly replaced an apology that said, "We would like to sincerely apologise for an unauthorized message posted on our Twitter account today & will ensure this cannot happen again." Responses to the kerfuffle on its Twitter page have mostly focused on confusion as to what the original tweet was and why it was removed.
While the Sochi Olympics have been controversial among LBGT groups because of Russia's laws banning so-called "gay propaganda," the country has a growing importance in F1. In fact, the first Russian Grand Prix is scheduled to run later this season on a circuit around the Sochi Olympic Park. Genii Capital, the team's owner, has business interests in Russia, and according to the BBC, the Lotus F1 team is working on a deal to with Russian mobile phone company Yotaphone to sell it 10 percent of the team.
