Porsche 550 Spyder - Recreation By Vintage Spyders on 2040-cars
Taneytown, Maryland, United States
This is a solid recreation of a 1955 Porsche 550 Spyder, tube frame and all, built by Vintage Spyders in 2003. The race number, 351, is that sported by Hans Herman, while driving a 550 to a class win in the 1954 Mille Miglia. (I'll leave out the James Dean owner/racer references) The numbers are 'static cling' and easily removed, although I think they add to the car's patina. It's a very attractive vehicle, drawing admiring looks, wherever it goes. Powered by a 2300cc, air cooled, race-bred, flat 4 produced by CB Performance, this car is like a pair of good sneakers, with wheels! The engine is rated at 165 hp and moves the less than 1500 lb vehicle in a 'spritely' manner. (translation: it's a blast!) Recent full engine tune insures all the horses are engaged, and multiple small tweaks make the overall package more fun than should be allowed. (includes a re-aligned shifter, the better to downshift and get that authentic pop, pop out of the single, large diameter tailpipe - insert 'grins') Also, if for some unknown reason you want to slow down, the optional 4-wheel disks do a great job. An excellent tonneau cover, car washing tested, is included. For those who may want to go-beat-the-other-guys in a 'friendly' game of autocross, a substantial roll bar is also part of the deal. Want looks, performance and big grins, this car offers them all!! Ask any questions you want, and I will answer them in a timely and honest manner, to the best of my ability. Please note that this car will be sold, in the near future. Increasingly troubled right knee forces this unwanted decision. Thanks for your interest. |

Maserati to show GranCabrio MC in Paris
Mon, 24 Sep 2012Maserati sure seems to be milking the GranTurismo franchise for all its worth these days. In addition to plenty of limited editions and sport models for both the coupe and convertible, Maserati recently launched the MC version of the hardtop. Now, ahead of its debut at the Paris Motor Show, the Modenese automaker has dropped details on its latest iteration of the GT platform, the GranCabrio MC.
Visually, the droptop's most noticeable change is its new face, which has been lifted directly off the MC Stradale coupe. This means the car is a full 48 millimeters longer than the standard and Sport versions of the GranCabrio, but we like the decidedly more aggressive look to that big ol' schnoz. The large rear spoiler has also been reworked for the MC, providing even more downforce to keep that large body firmly glued to the road.
Maserati has not released powertrain details, but we assume that the GranCabrio MC uses the same 4.7-liter Ferrari-sourced V8 as the MC coupe, good for 444 horsepower and 376 pound-feet of torque, mated to a six-speed automatic transmission.
Share price falls on skepticism of Chrysler-Fiat five-year plan
Thu, 08 May 2014Following this week's Fiat Chrysler extravaganza, where the Italian-American manufacturer announced its plans for the next five years, the Autoblog staff was cautiously optimistic of the company's future. Investors? Not so much.
Fiat saw its shares tumble 12 percent in Wednesday's trading, falling from 8.67 euros ($12.06 at today's rates) to 7.44 euros ($10.35) as of this writing, with blame partly going to the Italian half of the FCA marriage, which recorded a pretty significant drop in profits during the first quarter of this year.
The plan, which will cost around $77 billion over the next several years, is facing criticism from investors thanks in part to a 1.4-percent drop in Fiat's first-quarter profits, to 622 million euros ($862 million). That figure is also short of Bloomberg analysts' projections, which predicted $1.18 billion in profits before taxes, interest and one-time items.
Maserati Ghibli revealed ahead of Shanghai debut
Tue, 09 Apr 2013We knew it was coming, and here it is: the 2014 Maserati Ghibli. Maserati's plan of selling 50,000 cars per year by 2015 starts with the Ghibli, which will be positioned in a more volume-friendly market against the Mercedes-Benz E-Class and BMW 5 Series. The Ghibli will make its official debut later this month at the Shanghai Motor Show.
Although our first look at Maseati's newest sedan is limited to just three images, we can see that the car will have a sportier exterior design than its bigger brother, the Quattroporte, to go with an equally luxurious interior. Under its long, sleek hood, Maserati has confirmed that the Ghibli will utilize a pair of 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 engines - one gas and one diesel - both mated to eight-speed automatic transmissions. A rear-wheel-drive configuration will be standard, and the Italian automaker's new Q4 all-wheel-drive system will be available.
Scroll down for the brief teaser press release.
