Brakes are original, but have plenty of life left. Tires were new last fall with about 5,000 miles on them. Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus. Also included for this price are a set of 1-season old snow tires and lug nuts, Michelin X-Ice Xi3 mounted to aluminum wheels, Sport Edition F10, like new with only a few thousand miles driven.
Car includes premium package, with Xenon headlights, RFID "smart-key" door locks, and stability control. The key is credit-card shaped and you don't even have to take it out of your pocket/bag/wallet.
I also added, and installed by Partyka Mazda, an OEM limited slip rear end that was parted from a 2006 miata. In addition, I've added an aux input to the factory Bose radio
Other add-on is an air-horn. Not train-loud, but helps get attention when needed. Also included is a cabin air-scoop for those top-down summer drives. (Google cool-breeze scoop if you're interested)
I absolutely love this car, but I have automotive A.D.D. and am looking to buy something else this year.
For the bads, there are a few things that are known as problems on this model/year car, that are present. It's a small convertible, and noises are easily heard. You can hear the fuel pump, since it's just behind the seats. Plus, there are a few interior squeaks that come and go. Didn't stop me from taking it top-down to Alabama and back though! The seatbelts are a bit lazy, the drivers especially so. This doesn't effect their use or safety, other than you have to help them back in. The speakers have developed a buzz that comes and goes, which is a common problem with the Bose speakers, since they are not shielded from the weather from inside the door and eventually rain and humidity get to them. There is an aftermarket replacement set available for $2-300 if it becomes too bothersome for you. The other maintenance item that should be considered, is that one of the serpentine guide pullys in the engine is beginning to develop a slight whine. This is just a 60,000 mile maintenance item that needs addressed at some point, and parts are less than $100. 2 of the rims have curb rash, but this was before the new tires, so all are balanced and roll smooth. Paint is 8.5/10 as there are the usual small scratches and front end chips, and 2 small dings over the LR wheel well.

Mazda's new Mexican plant capacity rises to 230,000
Sat, 05 Jan 2013After the turmoil of last year, 2013 is getting off to a much better start for Mazda. The company has issued a release indicating that the forthcoming plant in Salamanca, Mexico has had its production capacity raised even though it isn't scheduled to go online until March 2014. The original plans called for a 140,000-unit capacity, 90,000 of that allotted for the Mazda2 and Mazda3, the remaining 50,000 for a small car Mazda would build for Toyota that would be based on the Mazda2. The new plans call for raising that by 90,000 units to a total of 230,000 units within two years, by the end of March 2016, and it looks like it will all go toward Mazda production to satisfy growing demand for Skyactiv vehciles. The Mexican plant's opening will be the return of Mazda manufacturing to North America, after Mazda6 production was moved back to Japan last year.
More good news for the company is that it projects 10 billion yen ($114 million) in net income for the financial year that will end in March. That would be a welcome turnaround from the 100-billion-yen loss in the previous financial year, part of a series of three annual losses in a four-year span.

Mazda poaches designer Kevin Rice back from BMW
Wed, 30 Oct 2013Kevin Rice left Mazda a baker's dozen years ago, but now he's back.
A graduate of the Transportation Design program at Coventry University (just across town from Jaguar headquarters), Rice worked his way up in the industry working for the likes of Opel and Italdesign Giugiaro before landing a job at Mazda. Between 1995 and 2000, he collaborated on such projects as the RX-8 and the 1999 Neospace concept that previewed the Mazda2 before moving on to BMW, where the new 3 Series and 4 Series were among the last projects he worked on during his 13-year tenure in Munich.
Now back at Mazda, Rice has been named the Japanese automaker's new creative director, charged with further honing the brand's KODO design language from its European headquarters in Oberursel, Germany. We're looking forward to seeing what he and his design team come up with in the coming years.
Mazda recalling 88k vehicles for ECU glitch
Fri, 04 Apr 2014Need a break from news about the General Motors ignition switch recall? This Mazda recall should serve as a nice change of pace. It involves 88,000 cars across the globe, and focuses on the brand's three most recent (and important) models - the Mazda3, Mazda6 and CX-5.
The issue rests with Mazda's new i-ELOOP regenerative braking system. Apparently there's a problem with the ECU program that monitors whether a capacitor in the regen system is working. Acceleration is affected, and in severe cases, the engine could stall. There have been no mention of accidents or injuries due to the issue, and the glitch itself can be cured by an ECU reflash.
As i-ELOOP is a fairly new system for Mazda, particularly in the US, the total number of affected models is rather low, with just 6,500 US cars affected. Europe is hit hardest, with 38,000 models while Mazda's home market of Japan adds 27,600 cars and crossovers. Affected models were built between October 2012 and January 2014.
