I am reluctantly parting from my 2001 Mazda Miata because I have too many Miatas (I know, what a problem, right?). My loss is your gain, however, as this car is in absolutely beautiful condition and has very low mileage for its age. The car has no rattles, squeaks, or cosmetic/mechanical problems, thanks to being garaged most of the time. If you are looking for a cheap beater, this is not the car for you. But if you want a fantastic summer cruiser that is guaranteed to put a massive grin on your face, you can't beat this little convertible!

Note: the wheels included with the car are pictured separately.  The car will be sold with the stock wheels, NOT the black and red wheels shown in some of the pictures.

The details:
  • 2001 Mazda MX-5 Miata LS, clean title with full service records (including all factory recalls), exclusively adult owned and driven
  • Black with a tan leather interior and tan top
  • Approximately 85,000 miles (currently at 85,069)
  • 6-speed manual transmission
  • 3.9 Torsen limited slip differential
  • Air conditioning blows ice cold
  • Power locks, windows, steering, cruise control and ABS
  • Cold air intake (only non-stock thing on the car, and it gives it a GREAT sound)
  • Original 16x7 wheels with brand new ultra high performance summer tires (less than 60 miles on the tires)
  • Bose stereo with CD player
  • Oil always changed with pure synthetic
  • Tonneau cover and full car cover included (see photos)
  • Will throw in an extra set of spark plugs and a pair of high quality car ramps if you like

Issues: light wear along outer rim of two of the wheels. Cosmetic tear in soft top on driver's side (approximately 1/2" long). Small dents in trunk lid (too small to get in a picture). Interior of soft top is slightly faded. Wear marks in outer bolster of driver seat.

Modded budget Mazda Miata takes on new Porsche Boxster in more challenges

Tue, 23 Sep 2014

Earlier this month, our friends across the pond at Auto Express released the first in a two-video series that would see them try and build up a second-generation Mazda MX-5 Miata that could best a standard Porsche Boxster around the track. While that first video detailed the mods to the MX-5 - a supercharger, some suspension upgrades and a new set of super-sticky rubber being chief among them - and set baseline lap times for the stock car, today, we have the results of the 5,000-pound ($8,200) upgrade job.
Of course, we aren't going to spoil those for you. You'll need to watch the full video, which recaps the upgrades before digging into a comparison of both straight-line-speed differences between the 2.7-liter Porsche Boxster and blown Miata, as well as their behavior and lap times on the track.
Take a look and let us know what you think in Comments.

Stock Miata beats bunch of high-powered cars in wet 1/4-mile drag race

Thu, 06 Jun 2013

When is a stock, 167-horsepower Mazda MX-5 Miata quicker than a Chevrolet Corvette, Ford Mustang, Lamborghini Gallardo, Lotus Elise and a Porsche 911? When it's raining. Sort of.
Mazda Canada arranged a unique drag race to show off the fact that the Miata's optional power retractable folding hardtop can go from top-down to top-up in just 12 seconds flat. In this video, all six cars line up for a drag race, and it starts to rain (well, sort of - but you'll have to watch the video all the way to the end to see what we mean). The green flag is waved, and the timer starts as soon as the convertibles begin to put their tops up. But because the Miata's roof mechanism gets the car's roof back up a full 5.1 seconds quicker than the second-place car, the Mazda gets a serious advantage off the line for the actual drag race.
It's a fun video. And while we've spoiled the results (come on, the video was uploaded by Mazda, you knew the Miata was going to win), be sure to see how it all unfolds, below.

Xcar tries to figure out what makes the Miata so great

Tue, 12 Aug 2014

Over the past 25 years and 3 model generations, the Mazda MX-5 Miata has shown that you don't have to be the best to be a massive success. The little, Japanese roadster has never been the absolute peak of automotive performance, but it's precise handling, good reliability and frugal running costs have helped make it a star. Autoblog recently tried to give you the experience of driving one on video, and now Xcar Films has made its own in an attempt to show what makes this droptop an icon.
As Xcar puts it, the Miata isn't the world's best sports car, but it is the world's favorite. When they were originally designing the roadster, Mazda's engineers took everything that made British droptops from the '60s great, and junked all of the stuff that made them a terror to own. The result was a car that would start up everyday with no fuss and get drivers wherever they needed to go with a huge grin on their face.
The fourth-generation Miata is imminently on the way for its September 3 unveiling, and the very early rumors indicate that Mazda doesn't plan to rock the boat too much with the latest one. It supposedly rides on a longer wheelbase and wider track but with the weight trimmed by over 200 pounds. Check out Xcar's video for a primer on MX-5 history and why the automotive world loves this little roadster.
