Up for sale is my unfinished project car. Bought from the 65 year old original owner in 2005 with a friend for SCCA Solo 2 which we ran for a few years for fun. We also ran a couple of track days and I decided to put the engine from my RX8 into the car (the RX8 engine and 6 speed transmission is for sale separately, as is the original 13b engine and 5 speed transmission - no engine or transmission is included with this project car/parts car listing), so we put it up on jack stands and unfortunately life has gotten in the way. It's been in the garage on the jack stands for 4 years and it's time for it to go to a new home.

The car is a roller now and the engine and transmission are out of the car, as is the interior. The sound deadening material has been stripped out and there is a bolt-in Autopower roll bar bolted and welded in. This would be a great project for someone to pick up cheaply and finish assembling for a track day toy, or possibly even fix it up to run in 24 Hours of Lemons or Chump Car. Paint is in rough shape (clear coat is peeling, some scratches, factory rubber door trim is removed from one side), but the body is solid. What you see is what you get. Please remember to ask for clarification on anything BEFORE bidding. This is a NO RESERVE $0.01 starting price auction - I need to get this thing out of here to free up space. Goes to the highest bidder.

The car has the following upgrades/modifications:

  • Ground Control Front Coilover conversion kit
  • Tokico Illumina Adjustable Struts and Shocks (all 4 corners)
  • Ground Control Front Camber/Caster plates
  • Racing Beat Front Sway Bar
  • Suspension Techniques Adjustable Sway Bar
  • Eibach Springs Front and Rear (spare front and rear of different rates also included)
  • New Factory Mazda Replacement Lower Control Arms (with factory new bushings/ball joints - installed on the car under 1000 miles ago)
  • Mazdaspeed Transmission and Engine Mounts
  • Racing Beat Power Pulse Muffler
  • Racing Beat Cat Delete Pipe
  • Mazdaspeed Torsen Limited Slip (factory gear ratio retained and rear end freshened up with new bearings/seals)
  • Mazdatrix Watts Link Bracket Reinforcement Plate
  • Mazda Factory replacement Watts Links and Bracket (installed on the car less than 1000 miles ago)
  • ARP Extra Length Wheel Studs
  • New Master Cylinder and Booster (within last 1000 miles)
  • Stainless Steel Braided Brake Lines (within last 1000 miles)
  • New Clutch Slave Cylinder (within last 1000 miles)
  • Stainless Steel Braided Clutch Line
  • Hawk Brake pads on all 4 corners
  • Ron Davis Aluminum Racing Radiator purchased from Mazdaspeed Motorsports Program
  • New Factory Mazda Manual Quick Ratio Steering Box (within last 1000 miles)
  • New Factory Steering Gear (Draglink, pitman arms, etc. - within last 1000 miles)
  • All interior sound deadening material/door panels/trunk panels removed
  • Quick Release Steering Wheel Mount
  • Probably some other minor items I missed

Spares/Also Included (some items not pictured):

  • 2 Full Sets of Factory GSL-SE Wheels (one set has "roller" Avon Slicks mounted, and one set is just wheels no tires)
  • Second set of front struts (with factory strut tops and Tokico Illumina adjustable strut inserts installed)
  • Factory Door panels
  • Factory Dash Support Frame
  • Factory Dash pad
  • Factory Passenger Seat
  • Factory Hood
  • Factory Pop-up Headlights
  • Factory Sun Roof Panel (metal)
  • Factory Radiator Shroud
  • Factory Oil Cooler (the good kind)
  • Factory Driveshaft/ u-joints
  • Factory Exhaust Heat Shielding
What is needed to make the car functional:

  • Gas tank or fuel cell (factory gas tank is gone it was taking up too much room in the garage and I was planning on putting an ATL cell in)
  • Engine and Transmission
  • Reinstall factory wiring harness(es included but not installed) or use a painless universal setup (this would be my choice as it will end up weighing less and you can add what you want/need only).
  • Should Replace Windshield (spiderweb crack at bottom drivers side)

This car is ready for your Engine/Tranny (or buy one of mine in the other auctions) and get it back on the track. I am selling this car as a parts car only, it does have a clear title and it is currently registered as a "non-op" but as it has no dash (odometer) or engine it will not be able to pass smog in CA. This also means that if you desire to get this car back on the road the buyer will be responsible for making any modifications or adjustments to bring it back to compliance re: smog/registration, etc.  If I had the time what I would do is put a carbed 13b and a factory gas tank back in it with some Autometer gauges, cheap reliable fun.

This car is being sold As-is Where-is. Buyer must pick up the car from Huntington Beach, CA within one week of close of auction or arrange for car to be picked up/shipped within one week of close of auction. If car is not picked up during that time frame, it will be relisted and negative feedback will be left.

I will not schedule shipping or pickup for the buyer. IT IS THE BUYERS RESPONSIBILITY. Bring or arrange for a trailer, as this car does not move under it's own power. I need a $200 non-refundable deposit within 48hrs of the close of auction via PayPal and prefer cash in person for final payment. Certified checks will have to clear the bank before pick up or USPS Money Orders are also acceptable.

Consumer Reports digs Mazda3, disses Jeep Cherokee

Tue, 11 Feb 2014

Consumer Reports has just rendered its verdict on two of the more important cars to launch this year - the Mazda3 and the Jeep Cherokee. Considering the value a "Recommended" rating carries with the public and the viciously competitive markets these two cars compete in, Consumer Reports' view could have some impact on their initial success.
For Mazda, that's a good thing. CR spoke quite highly of the Zoom-Zoom brand's compact sedan and hatch, testing both models, and citing the excellent fuel economy and snickety-snack manual shifter as high points. Downsides to the 3 included a ride that is agile but "nervous," a bit too much noise and a cramped back seat. Still, the 3 was good enough to earn its place in the ranks of the "Recommended."
The Jeep didn't fare quite so well, with CR calling the polarizing CUV "half-baked." Although both engines were tested, the magazine called the 2.4-liter four-pot underpowered and its nine-speed automatic unrefined and unresponsive. That's particularly damning, considering the 9AT's role in future Chrysler products, including the extremely important 200. Overall, the Cherokee missed out on the coveted "Recommended" rating.

2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata to be revealed on September 3 [w/video]

Thu, 03 Jul 2014

Now in its 25th year and on the market in its current form since 2005, the Mazda MX-5 Miata has been due for replacement for some time now. A mid-life facelift helped things along some in 2008, but the moment that roadster enthusiasts have been anxiously awaiting is almost upon us.
Mazda has now confirmed that the 2016 MX-5 will be officially unveiled on September 3 at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca just ahead of the "Miatas at Mazda Raceway" event, where the Japanese automaker will also display "an array of heritage, concept and motorsports MX-5s," just as it did alongside the upcoming new roadster's Skyactiv chassis at the New York Auto Show.
Not to leave the European and Asian markets out of the fun, Mazda will simultaneously unveil the new Miata in Spain and Japan as well. But in the meantime you can view the teaser video and press release below to keep that excitement drummed up.

2015 Mazda2 spotted in Japanese magazine

Tue, 16 Jul 2013

The styling changes at Mazda are proceeding at a fairly quick tempo. The CX-5 was unveiled, followed by a refreshed CX-9, the excellent Mazda6, and most recently a new Mazda3. This all happened over the course of less than two years, which in the auto industry is like a long week.
Now the Mazda2 is getting its revamp. Thanks to a magazine scan from Japan, we now have our first look at the new sub-compact, called the Demio, in its home market. Mazda's familial front end has been fitted, and it doesn't look quite as suited to the smaller car. Lacking the long-hood look of the Mazda3 and Mazda6, the new styling looks overly rounded, almost bulbous from our angle. It's still attractive, but the shape is kind of off-putting compared to the chiseled faces of the 2's big brothers. We'll concede that the folded magazine page may have something to do with it, however.
The next-generation 2 should adhere to Mazda's Skyactiv philosophy, which means we can expect a highly efficient four-cylinder engine, although it's impossible to say if Mazda will do away with its smallest offering's one-engine strategy. Considering the Mazda2 will be riding on a shortened version of the CX-5's platform, we'd expect some degree of mechanical parts sharing, regardless of how much the larger platform needs trimmed. Perhaps a detuned version of the 2.0-liter, Skyactiv four-cylinder could be under the 2's hood?
