2004 Mazda Rx-8 Grand Touring Coupe 4-door 1.3l - Blue on 2040-cars

Edmunds writes, "Although the Mazda RX-8 looks like a race-tuned sports car, its demeanor on the road is considerably more docile. Its ample grip through corners and solid feedback through the steering wheel make it an absolute riot on a serpentine road, yet the car's compliant ride means that it won't beat you up on the daily commute. The rotary engine requires high engine speeds to make serious power, but the delivery is virtually vibration-free and noise levels are subdued. If you like a smooth engine in feel, sound and power delivery, the RX-8's is second to none.

Inside the cabin, the RX-8's innovative two-person backseat and reverse-opening rear half-doors provide the sort of practicality no other sports car can match. Provided rear-seat passengers are of average size, those seated in the back will find supportive seating and ample room. Overall, the RX-8 is one of the best examples of a car that's both fun to drive and very livable on a day-to-day basis. "...

Car is in good shape for age; it looks really sharp! But, she has a couple shopping cart-like dings that should be visible in photos.   Have not been driving car for a few months, so it is time to go.

Known Issues:
* A/C working but should be recharged.
* Threw code P2260 (“AIR solenoid valve control circuit h  igh ON 2 CCM"); cleared itself, but suspect valve needs cleaning or replacement (about $100)
* Battery discharged while I was traveling so various dash lights are on.
* Radio display on dashboard is in ‘disco’ mode so display is not readable – suspect a loose connection.
* As seen in photos, alloy wheels could use refinishing.
* my son gets his driving permit in 6 months and this is too much car for a teenager to handle.

Mazda reveals 25th anniversary edition MX-5 Miata alongside next-gen chassis

Thu, 17 Apr 2014

Ford may be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Mustang this week, but it's not the only automaker with a sports car icon to fete at this year's New York Auto Show. Mazda is also celebrating the 25th anniversary of the MX-5 Miata with an array of 15 classic models. It's also showing off the chassis for the next MX-5, and unveiling a special 25th Anniversary Edition.
The special edition is based on the retractable hardtop model with either manual or automatic transmission, Bilstein shocks, a metallic red paint job with contrasting black roof and an off-white leather interior. Naturally, special badging can be found inside and out to set it apart from the record 940,000 other MX-5s sold to date, and just 100 examples will find their way to US buyers.
Along with the two-tone special, Mazda is also showing off the new Skyactiv chassis and engine that'll underpin and power the upcoming next-generation MX-5 (as well as an as-yet-to-be-determined Fiat Group roadster if the two parties can work out their differences). With a lower center of gravity that's also closer to the middle of the car, the new chassis promises even better balance and a good couple hundred pounds of weight savings over the outgoing model. Check it all out in the press releases below.

Miata driver pulls off hilariously diabolical move in fender-to-fender racing

Wed, 27 Aug 2014

Racing is all about finding the little advantages over competitors that allow you to get ahead. Sometimes those are legitimate means - like being able to take advantage of a better line through a corner - and other times drivers get a little more creative for a leg up over opponents. Sometimes things might even go a little too far. Case in point: just watch the opening of this Mazda MX-5 Cup race from Silverstone in the UK.
According to the YouTube description, we're riding with James Rogers in this video, and he appears to be pretty talented behind the wheel. Rogers has a great start from fifth that has him in third within just a few corners. He starts stalking the top two drivers, who are already having a fantastic race themselves, but then we see that the person in second is clearly willing to do whatever it takes to win. Just watch the video, and you'll see what we mean. Bravo (?) to that racer for some very quick, albeit fiendish, thinking.

Mazda has right mix to chase 120,000 more US sales

Wed, 05 Dec 2012

The Mazda MX-5 Miata was named to Car and Driver magazine's Ten Best list for the eighth year in a row and for the fourteenth time overall. The CX-5 tops or comes in as runner-up on every AOL Autos staff poll we take on compact crossovers. The Mazda3 is a perennial favorite among auto critics. That's three clear, unquestioned winners in the Mazda showroom. So, why does Mazda seem to struggle sometimes for recognition and clarity in the marketplace?
For that, I chatted with Mazda North American Operations President, Jim O'Sullivan, who has run the outfit since 2003. O'Sullivan, a former Ford sales and marketing executive who came to Mazda from Dearborn, MI when Ford owned a controlling stake in Mazda, is one of the quieter, but very menchy, leaders in the industry whose longevity in the job speaks to the stability of Mazda.
