Beautiful Restored 1958 Mercedes Model 219.

In 2000 I completely stripped the car including the door jambs to bare white metal then primed it with 2 coats of DP 90 catalyzed epoxy primer then applied 3 coats of high build primer followed by 4 coats of base coat and finished up with 3 coats of clear coat. That's 12 coats of paint.

The chrome was redone by Art Brass in Seattle and cost almost $3000 for the bumpers door handles drivers and door mirror.
Their process is copper plating and polish repeatedly until smooth then the nickel plate then Chrome.
Art Brass in Seattle is well known for their excellence in  restoring chrome for collector cars.

When I purchased the New OEM steering box from Mercedes I was told that I got the last one from the 5 Mercedes depots in the US.

The front suspension has all new Mercedes king pins, upper and lower pins.
The steering is perfect and has zero side play.

Red Leather upholstery.

Engine was rebuilt by Auto sport in Seattle, they are well known in the Seattle are for their ability to restore engines on antique cars..
Pistons were balanced on a gram scale.
It has .02 over pistons and .01 under rods and mains.
Upgraded oil pump used in the 220 engines.
Engine has sodium filled exhaust valves and hardened valve seats, so it runs just fine on unleaded gas.

Also has a Borla stainless steel exhaust system that extends from the engine all the way to the tailpipe.
This stainless steel exhaust will last a lifetime.

I have all of the original receipts.

Runs and drives just fine.
All original factory parts.
New OEM window and door gaskets, that's a thousand $ just for the gaskets.

Original spear light pads and lenses.

I also got the last available grill emblem, it's perfect as you can see in the photos.

Note the pictures of the undercarriage show the brand new Mercedes fender fasteners and gaskets.
Also note the condition of the headlight housing inside of both front fenders.

Even though there is a modern CD player in the dash, I have the original radio and it's related parts carefully stored so it would be easy to restore the dash to original.

There were only 27730 of these cars built over a period of 4 years.
After 50+ years I'm sure that few remain in excellent  condition.

I have kept this car in my garage for the last 35 years, so if you're looking for a real nice quality car with no rust this is it.

AMG-powered Aston Martins still years away

Mon, 16 Sep 2013

After flirting for several years, Mercedes-Benz and Aston Martin have finally tied the knot. Just don't expect to see any offspring to result from the union for at least three or four years.
This according to Auto Express, which spoke with Daimler chief Dr. Dieter Zetsche at the Frankfurt Motor Show last week. AE reports that a new range of AMG-developed turbocharged V8s, transmissions and electrical components will make their way into the successors to the current V8 Vantage and DB9, but that these models are still a few years off.
Purists might balk at the thought of a Mercedes-powered Aston holding true to the brand's heritage. But while David Brown (for whom the DB range is named) may have steered clear of shoehorning in Detroit muscle into his cars, the entirety of the company's current range is powered by engines borrowing technology from Ford, and that arrangement seems to have worked well for Aston until now. And if you're still skeptical, look no further than Pagani and its AMG-sourced engines and you should have all the proof you need that the new relationship between Daimler and Aston could be a success.

European automakers gear up for Brazilian production

Mon, 07 Oct 2013

Brazil is the place to be, apparently. Toyota has been investing in the South American country, as has BMW, which announced a $261 million investment in October 2012, on the heels of an Audi factory announcement in San José Chiapa. The high-end immigration is only set to continue, as Mercedes-Benz and Jaguar-Land Rover have both announced plans to set up manufacturing operations there.
Mercedes is the big news here, as its new facility will see the German manufacturer invest 170-million euros for production of its next-generation C-Class and upcoming GLA-Class. "Brazil is an important future market. With our local production we accept the challenge and take on the competition," noted Andreas Renschler, Management Board member for Production and Procurement at Mercedes-Benz Cars and Mercedes-Benz Vans. Production is expected to begin by 2016.
Jaguar-Land Rover, meanwhile, isn't so concrete in its plans. The news of its investment in South America comes from a job posting for a plant quality manager in Brazil that was picked up by the UK's AutoCar. "Portuguese language skills will be definite advantage" for interested candidates, according to the job listing. The want ad follows on the heels of remarks by Jaguar Land Rover's Dr. Ralph Speth, who said there are "very intensive discussions" with Brazil's government. Unlike Mercedes, there's no mention of which vehicles will be produced in South America, although AutoCar thinks the Freelander, sold in the US as the LR2, is a leading contender.

Gullwing America turns SLS AMG Roadster into stunning 1955 300 SC redux

Thu, 14 Feb 2013

Gullwing America specializes in what it calls "retro styling meets modern technology." It's next demonstration of that is the convertible above, a stylized recreation of the 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SC (inset) supported by the structure of a 2012 SLS AMG Roadster. Commissioned by a client in Eastern Europe, the resulting car is called the 300 SLC.
The hand-formed aluminum bodywork required just a few changes to the SLS AMG Roadster, namely reworking the headlights into a stacked arrangement of LEDs and relocating the pop-up spoiler behind the cabin. The retro grille and long, straight hood evoke the past, the custom exhaust, height-adjustable suspension, 21-inch wheels up front and 22-inch wheels in back, however, stray a little further from history. The 300 SLC will come with a hardtop and be one-of-a-kind, making it even rarer than its inspiration, of which 92 were made.
If you have any more questions, they can probably be answered in the high-res photo gallery above and press release below.
