1962 Mercedes-Benz 220 SE Coupe

CHASSIS NO: 220SE024130

2.2 liter inline six-cylinder engine, 134 HP, three-speed automatic gearbox, independent coil spring suspension, front wheel disc brakes; wheelbase: 108.3”

The Mercedes-Benz W111 series was the top-range of luxury vehicles from Mercedes-Benz, produced from 1959–1968. Beginning in 1961, the sporty two-door coupe was developed and premiered in Stuttgart for the 75th Anniversary of the opening of the Mercedes-Benz Museum. The two-door SE Coupe sold for $8,900 when new. It remains a smooth and comfortable touring car with plenty of room that is equally at home on the Autobahn as it is on American highways.

This fine SE Coupe was restored in 1995 by Walters Star in Denver, Colorado, for longtime owner Rick Cover, and purchased by the current owner in 2004 – fulfilling a lifelong dream of owning a car that was identical to one his father had purchased new. It has been carefully stored and driven only in clear, dry weather ever since. Recent servicing includes new tires, new brakes and hydraulics on all four wheels, muffler, and fuel system rebuild. The car starts easily, runs silently, and cruises effortlessly.

The beautiful white paint retains a deep shine, with just a few very minor chips keeping it from a #1 description. The chrome is also very good, and it’s obvious that the car is laser straight, as all the panel gaps are excellent. The interior is very clean, with beautifully finished woodwork, and only a minor seam split on the driver’s seat to be aware of as a flaw in the upholstery. The factory Becker radio is in place, but has not been repaired, and the air-conditioning works great. The glass is outstanding, the carpets are clean and fresh, and the entire car presents today in fine factory correct condition throughout. The factory manuals, all receipts, and a custom car cover are included with your purchase.

This beautiful SE Coupe has traveled just 69,077 miles since new, and has obviously been exceptionally well cared for. The body and undercarriage are very solid, the panel gaps excellent, and the interior is beautiful. If a well cared for, documented Mercedes would be a nice fit in your collection, here’s an excellent example of this timeless marque for your consideration.

Maybach could become Mercedes-Benz sub-brand

Wed, 22 Jun 2011

When you're arriving in a twin-turbocharged, twelve-cylinder Maybach limo, there's no reason you should ever have to be late. Except, maybe, to make a fashionable entrance. But up at the corporate level, the entire Maybach brand is being slowed down as critical decisions about its future are being undertaken.
Last week, we reported that a decision on what path Maybach would take going forward would be due at the start of next month, but the latest reports indicate that the timeframe has been extended as further options are being considered.
The previous options under consideration were twofold: either relaunch the brand with production outsourced to Aston Martin - which suddenly finds itself with excess production capacity - or shut it down completely. And those are still two very real options. Word has it that Aston has put together four concept cars for the Daimler brass to consider, all based on the next-generation S-Class platform (and thankfully not the old one).

Mercedes to roll out C63 AMG late in 2014 with 4.0L V8

Mon, 30 Dec 2013

The new 2014 Mercedes-Benz C-Class is upon us, launching initially in North America with turbocharged four-cylinder C300 4Matic and six-cylinder C400 4Matic flavors. But that's only the tip of the proverbial iceberg when it comes to the vast array of powertrain configurations that will be offered in the new C-Class in markets around the world. Orders will soon be rolling in for gasoline, hybrid and diesel engines with four, six or eight cylinders, driving the rear wheels or all four, with the seven-speed automatic transmission soon to be replaced by a new nine-speed unit. But what enthusiasts are really looking forward to is the next C63 AMG.
As BMW has done with the M3 (and new M4), Mercedes has gradually ratcheted up the cylinder count in its AMG C-Class, graduating from the 3.6-liter V6 in the original C36 AMG to the 4.3-liter V8 in the C43 AMG, then the 5.5-liter V8 in the C55 AMG before going the distance with the sublime 6.2-liter V8 in the C63 AMG. Like its rivals, Mercedes is expected to use turbochargers as a replacement for displacement in the next model, but unlike its Bavarian rival, it won't be losing any cylinders in the process.
Skipping the 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8 that has gone on to power other AMG models, the next C63 AMG is still expected to introduce a new 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 producing between 450 and 500 horsepower. It'll also reportedly keep the same seven-speed automatic transmission (instead of switching to the new nine-speed), but the jury's still out on whether it'll come with rear- or all-wheel drive (or offer buyers the choice). The downsized V8 - codenamed M177 - is then expected to find its way into other models, but the C-Class will be the first to get it when it arrives before the end of the new year ahead.

In Which Mercedes' Sprinter Becomes A Long-Distance Sherpa
In the wintery wilds of northern Alaska, even the cute little critters want to kill you.
As I am about to nod off on my long leg flight from Minneapolis to Anchorage ahead of driving to the Arctic Circle, the friendly twenty-something Alaskan knitting furiously in the seat next to me pauses and says, "When you're driving up there, don't open your windows." In the dead of winter? I hadn't planned on cruising alfresco, but her warning to keep the glazing snugged against the weatherstripping is one I would take to heart. She continues: "If you leave 'em open, a fox is liable to jump right in. There are lots of rabid foxes up there, and they leap into your car and just Go. To. Town." And here I was, thinking that a curious bear or maybe an ill-placed moose in the road was going to be my biggest potential four-legged threat. In the wintery wilds of northern Alaska, even the cute little critters want to kill you.
