Perhaps one of the most luxurious brands on the market is the Mercedes Benz, this handsome 1966 230SL could be one of the most successful models of the late 60’s. It's a wonderful example of engineering that defines the brand to this day.
With production of both the 300SL and the 190SL cars coming to and end in 1963, Mercedes Benz needed a new car to carry the SL (Sehr Leicht, very tight) torch. And while the previous cars immortalized the SL moniker, the 230SL was more a spiritual successor to those cars than a direct descendant.
Texas Classic Cars of Dallas is proud to present to you this 1966 Mercedes Benz 230SL.
Mercedes debuted the 230SL at the Geneva Auto Show in March of 1963, to great acclaim. Exterior styling was a departure for Mercedes, which had until this point relied on rounded, even bulbous curves to characterize its automobiles. But the 230SL bordered on square, pulled off through the use of clean, elegant lines. intellegent placement of the wheels in proportion to the rest of the design, and a tall "pagoda" removable hard top.
The 230SL utilized a monocoque chassis borrowed from the 220 series sedan, with front suspension courtesy of coils and wishbones, while the rear incorporated a single pivot swing axle and transverse springs set up to compensate for camber. The Girling disc brakes stopped the front wheels, and power assist drums worked the rear.
For your money you will probably get one of the most well built sedan-convertibles in the world. Showcasing a white finish and straight sheet metal throughout.
The chrome bumpers are in great condition and give it a more sophisticated look, and the grill is simple yet most recognizable.
The trunk is spacious and includes a spare tire.
The tan upholstery is in very good condition.
The front bucket seats are spacious, with no splits or tears. The door panels are original and show a little bit of aging.
The current owner believes the mileage to be original. He has owned the car for several years and has maintenance records totaling over $6000.
The steering wheel it is the trademark for Benz, feeling outstanding when steering and comfortable while driving.
The dash is in original condition and the gauges are functional and clear.
The rear area is carpeted and spacious giving extra storage.
We would like to thank our friends at the Frontiers Of Flight Museum for their great location for our photo shoots. Please visit the museum when you're in Dallas. They are just minutes from our showroom.
Moving along to the engine, the car has a smooth straight six engine deriving from the 220 series, and bored out to 2.3 liters and is fuel injected.
The convertible top is in very good condition.
The undercarriage is clean and solid, showing very little surface rust.

So you didn't really think Dartz Motorz was going to let the limited-production, 544-horsepower Mercedes 6x6 G63 AMG go without a challenge, did you? Picking up the gauntlet as only Dartz can, the Russian dream-makers have come up with the Sahara G-eopard, supposedly a special request from a buyer to make one of the 'standard' six-wheelers "more opulent and insane." That means the vehicle from the factory gets extended by about a foot (30 centimeters), coach doors in the rear, a "yacht floor" and air conditioning that runs on its own power source, Asanti 24-inch Gold Bullion wheels and a water dispenser with Russian diamonds, which the owner will need to fill the golden shishas (hookahs) in the portable smoking room. That's right, you heard the man: a portable smoking room. Where the occupants will retire when they're finished in the portable dining room. Of course. Yes, it will even have leopard spotting painted onto its nano-coating, and so much more. You can check out the press release below from the source. Try not to be jealous.
Last week when we saw the leaked ordering guide for the 2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class, one particular image caught our eye showing the interior of the new sedan with a neon yellow stripe on the seats and yellow stitching throughout the cabin. As it turns out, this will be part of a limited-edition model called the Edition 1 about which Mercedes-Benz just released some information. Usually, automakers wait until later in a vehicle's life to introduce special models like this, but the Edition 1 will be available right out of the gate for the first 12 months the CLA-Class is on sale. The 2014 CLA-Class Edition 1 includes the more aggressive Sport package adding AMG-style fascias and wheels, Bi-Xenon headlights and a lowered suspension; it will be offered only in five colors - unfortunately, Northern Lights Purple is not one of them. In addition to the bright yellow cabin accents, the Edition 1 will get sport seats wrapped in leather and microfiber, a sporty, flat-bottom steering wheel wrapped in Nappa leather and real aluminum trim on the instrument panel. With no mention of the US, we're only left to imagine that this car will not be arriving on our shores, but customers in Europe will definitely be able to enjoy the mean styling and funky interior with prices ranging from 35,402 euros up to 43,940 euros.
Testing appears to be underway for what would be the first Mercedes-Benz C-Class with a hybrid powertrain. We can see a pair of the prototypes undergoing testing in Germany, with one, a C-Class Wagon, still heavily clad in camouflage and featuring a more noticeable outlet on the passenger side of its rear bumper. There's also a more production-looking sedan, which features a not-so-discreet flap over its rear-bumper outlet. It's difficult to speculate on power outputs for this fuel-sipping C-Class, although our spies seem to think that this car will feature some combination of a four-cylinder gas engine with an electric motor, although just which four is unclear (note, we wouldn't mind if MB fit its 2.0-liter turbo with some batteries and motors). Regardless, the four-pot/electric motor seems like a pretty reasonable combo, although it probably means that Mercedes won't be challenging the six-cylinder-powered system of the BMW ActiveHybrid3 any time soon. When the plug-in C-Class arrives later this year as a 2015 model, it will likely offer a full range of driving modes, including both gas or electric, only, as well as a more traditional hybrid mode.
