Offered for sale is an absolutely gorgeous 1970 Mercedes 280SE 3.5 Coupe with all of the desirable options: floor-shift transmission, air conditioning and power windows. Finished in Anthracite Grey Metallic with Black roof and hubcaps (Factory Original Color Scheme), Black leather interior.  Delivered new in France.  This example has been lovingly maintained and cared for.  High quality bare metal repaint using Glasurit paint.  Most brightwork re-chromed and consequently the car is truly as nice as it appears in the photographs. Carpets are wool with lambs wool mats.

The paint is excellent, a rich and lustrous finish that shows only the most insignificant of imperfections. All of the car’s chrome is fantastic, all body rubber replaced with MB parts. Panel fits and gaps are excellent. Always garaged and cared for, the car’s undercarriage and body are nearly rust-free.

Seat covers and cushions have been replaced. Hat and headliner are new. This vehicle was stored for over 20 years. I believe the mileage to be less than what is shown on the title. The original speedometer is in kilometers. That is what is shown on the title. Actual miles would be about 60K.

Vehicle has been serviced and maintained mechanically. Radiator, hoses, brakes ect have been replaced.  Heater box was completed overhauled with new valves, levers, and heater coils. All windows mechanisms have been restored. Runs and drives as it should.

Original radio is inoperative. A/C is inoperative but all of the factory parts are present. New A/C lines are included with the sale. Various interior trim have not been installed.

Feel free to contact me directly for additional details.  I will assist with shipping paid for by the buyer.  Inspections are welcome and encouraged.  No disapointments here. This is one of the finest 111 coupes that I have seen.

Vehicle is for sale locally so this auction could end at anytime.

Carlsson SLK 340 Judd is winged up for hill climb glory

Wed, 06 Mar 2013

Carlsson has been expertly tuning Mercedes-Benz products for more than 20 years now, but we can't say as we remember the outfit turning out anything quite so racy as this SLK 340 Judd that it has brought along to the Geneva Motor Show this year.
This SLK is meant for competition, obviously, and Carlsson has already booked the car to race in several hill climb events in the E1 category. The purpose-built racer should have a fighting chance to do well in said races, with a shape vetted in wind tunnel testing for maximum downforce, the SLK uses a carbon-fiber bodyshell to help achieve a curb weight of just about 1,720 pounds.
The featherweight SLK's name comes from its 3.4-liter V8 engine, which churns out a wicked 610 horsepower to go with its 317 pound-feet of torque. A Hewland transmission with paddle shift operation manages all of the thrust.

Firing of M-B boss upheld

Mon, 15 Jul 2013

Ernst Lieb, the disgraced former CEO of American operations for Mercedes-Benz, will not be getting any more money from the Silver Arrow'd teat. His wrongful dismissal suit against MB's parent company, Daimler, was tossed out of a German appeals panel. This, followed the initial rejection by a lower court last year.
According to court documents acquired by Automotive News, Lieb was found to have "accepted payments of substantial value to which he - as he was aware - had no claim."
Lieb took over American operations from former CEO Paul Halata in September of 2006. Reports surfaced in October of 2011 that Lieb was dismissed from his posting at MB, with a variety of rumors swirling. Eventually, news broke that financial wrong doing was responsible for the German's firing.

New Mercedes Unimog debuts to the cheers of little boys everywhere [w/video]

Sat, 27 Apr 2013

The Mercedes Unimog, the superhero villain of the off-road world that's just waiting to make the jump to Transformer, has been completely upgraded for its new generation. There are ten models, expanding the range and getting new designations across the traditional all-terrain series and the implement-carrier series. Panoramic cabins get more visibility, multifunction steering wheels and better dash clusters, improved HVAC and a three-mode central tire inflation system. Outside, there are new items like LED headlights and daytime running lamps in the bumper, roof-mounted windshield wipers and a front-camera monitor for the implement carrier.
The new engine lineup is compliant with Euro VI, featuring four- and six-cylinder BlueEfficiency engines putting out anywhere from 156 horsepower to 354 hp. Powerplant placement has also been tweaked, the chassis members getting a revised curve to place the engine a bit further back and lower, maintaining off-road clearance and lowering the Unimog's center of gravity. The new location of the engine means the cabin has more room, and the wheelbase is shorter. Combined with a higher turning angle, the Unimog has a smaller turning radius than before.
The implement carrier gets what's called a "synergistic traveling drive," the bonus being that drivers don't need to stop in order to use an attachment - a hydrostatic transmission works with the regular manual transmission at up to 31 kilometers per hour for seamless switching.
