 1973 Mercedes 280 SE 4.5

It was originally sold in the Bronx NY.  The original owner told me she sold the car back to the dealer she bought it from.  At some time in the early 1990s the car was in FL  I bought the car in 1997 in Syracuse NY. from the person who bought it in FL.  The odometer currently shows 38097 miles.  There is a sticker in the door showing that it was replaced at 48000 miles.  The car has over 86000 miles but true mileage is unknown since I was not the owner at the time it was replaced.  I have put about 18000 miles on the car since 1997.  During that time the car was in storage from 1999 until about 2007 while I was in the USAF.  The car was driven about every 2 years during its storage when I came home on leave.  Since 2007 I have driven the car several times a week during nice weather.  Currently the car is in my heated garage for the winter in Pa.

The car has most of its original paint.  The drivers side and trunk lid were painted before I bought the car possibly because if a scrape on the drivers side.   I do not see any evidence that any body parts were replaced.  Gaps are all good throughout the car.  The under side of the car has its original factor undercoating with no rust or rot.  There is one small paint bubble on the drives rear door that was there when I bought the car and it has not changed.

The interior has real leather and the seats were replaced with leather from GAHH a few years ago for $4000.  The door panels were not replaced since they are in excellent condition.  The drivers side door panel has some wear above the armrest.  The carpet is original and I had mats made to protect the original that look like the original carpet.  The heal pad on the drivers carpet was remade to look like the original.  The dash and steering wheel have no cracks.  The Becker radio works well.  The power windows all work.  The wood trim is excellent throughout.  Vacuum locks work.

The engine runs and drives well.  On cold start you have to crank for a few seconds but it always starts.  Warm starts is always fast.  I put a new MB radiator in the car a while back.  Oil is changed annually.  I replaced the master cylinder last summer and the brake pads.  AC was Ice cold with R12 until it leaked out last year.  The exhaust is new MB parts from the middle of the car back.  I can here an exhaust leak near the front that I have not addressed yet.  Tires are nearly new from 2012 with maybe 2000 miles on them.

If you would like to see the car send me a message and I will set up a time with you.

SRT Viper dukes it out with Mercedes SLS Black Series in new Head 2 Head

Fri, 05 Jul 2013

In Episode 36 of Motor Trend's Head 2 Head, now that the Corvette ZR1 is no more, Jonny Lieberman has to look overseas to the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series for a challenger with similar philosophy to the SRT Viper: long hood hiding a high-horsepower engine set way back, rear-wheel drive, tiny trunks. That puts the Viper's 8.4-liter V10 with 640 horsepower and 600 pound-feet of torque against the SLS AMG's 6.2-liter V8 with 622 hp and 468 lb-ft.
However, the congruences in philosophy and magnitude of numbers doesn't translate to the driving experiences of the two, which are literally and figuratively on different continents. Lieberman gets a handle on the two of them on Northern California roads, Randy Probst then finds out how, and how quickly, they can lap Laguna Seca.
They both get kudos for being improvements on their original sources, but only one of them can take the win. You can find out by watching the video below.

13-year-old boy swipes dad's Mercedes, drives across Europe

Wed, 16 Jan 2013

After an argument with his adoptive parents that resulted in them taking away his mobile phone, an angry 13-year-old boy ran away from his home in Italy and headed straight to Poland to meet his biological sister. But instead of taking the train or hitching a ride, like most on the run, the young man (an accomplished go-kart racer and car enthusiast) grabbed the keys to his father's Mercedes-Benz and jumped behind the wheel for an impromptu road trip.
With less than 200 euros (about $270) in his wallet and a passport in his pocket, the youngster managed to put more than 500 miles between himself and his distraught parents, crossing two international borders in the process, before German police nabbed him just shy of the Polish border. According to reports, the vehicle was tracked - it wasn't his driving that alerted authorities to his location.
Reunited with his mother and father, who traveled to Germany to retrieve both their son and the vehicle, the young man apologized and acknowledged his error. As a result of his actions, social workers will increase checks on the family and we can be sure his parents are now hiding the keys.

Mercedes Concept GLA45 AMG is ready to run

Wed, 20 Nov 2013

This is the Mercedes-Benz Concept GLA45 AMG, and what we mean by that is, "This is the Mercedes-Benz GLA45 AMG." Mercedes has just unveiled the liveried 'concept' at the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show, giving potential customers a very good look at the newest lunatic in the AMG asylum - a 355-horsepower, 332-pound-foot crossover that uses the same 2.0-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder engine found in the CLA45 AMG and Europe's A45 AMG.
Joined with a seven-speed, AMG Speedshift dual-clutch transmission and an AMG Performance 4Matic all-wheel-drive system, Mercedes promises a sub-five-second run to 60 miles per hour. That's not just quick for a crossover, that's quick full stop.
That sleek, lifted body has also been tweaked by the minds at AMG's Affalterbach facility. A new rear spoiler, side sills and front clip are the primary aerodynamic tweaks. Aesthetically, AMG has fitted the requisite "Turbo" badges, gloss-black accents (including exhaust tips and roof rails) and a set of 21-inch, AMG-spec alloy wheels to round out the overall package. Based on the spy shots we've seen, expect slightly toned down aerodynamics when the GLA45 AMG arrives in showrooms.
