Up for auction is a gorgeous 1973 Mercedes 280Se 4.5 Luxury Sedan.  Fully Serviced, pampered, and ready to be enjoyed this fall.

This stunning German mark of Luxury, Comfort, and Style, was made famous by all the Kings and Queens, politicians and Rock and Roll stars that had them new in the sixties and seventies.   Marc Bolan, of T-Rex and Donovan, had theirs.  Jeremy Clarkson of Top Gear has one, and the simple reason is that it's one of the best cars in the world.

I have loved and enjoyed this car but unfortunately I have to sell it and I am hoping it goes to someone who will appreciate it and love it as much as I do.

I bought this car because it was a solid complete original unmolested Mercedes, with plans to re-paint it to its original glory, and here is what was done to it:

Car was stripped, and taken to a reputable body shop in Philadelphia where dents and flaws were repaired, as was any superficial rust.
They block sanded the entire body, using as little filler as possible,
They primered with PPG 2K primer 4 times with block sanding in between each coat and then sealed and prepped with PPG products.
The shop is Environmentally friendly using Waterborne paint (PPG Envirobase) and the paint is therefore state of the art, applied in an Italian made paint booth.
They sanded and polished the paint to finish.
Cost $9,800 .

New Distributor points and electronic ignition points  $1,700

New Brakes, calipers, discs etc, New Shock absorbers, Fuel Pump filters oils etc.
New Michelin Tires, Windshield wipers (original) fuel tank, radiator, a/c service Blaupunkt Radio.    $11,550

I wanted the car to be as original as possible to retain its '70s character so anything that did not need to be replaced was cleaned up/restored and put back; The wood is original and amazing, (glove box door has two spider cracks, look in pics). Original Blaupunkt radio, and working original Air Conditioning.

ALL instruments, glass, lights switches, wipers heater and blower, hazards, and of course Radio and Factory AIR CONDITIONING are ORIGINAL and working 100%.

The car starts right up all the time every time.  It idles smooth and at 650 rpm all the time. It sounds fantastic; and is a absolute joy to drive. The fantastic V8 in this car makes it surprisingly fast and agile!! Solid, confident, and gorgeous. This SE is a sporty classic that can be driven every day in comfort and Style- for you AND four of your friends!!

This car is a people magnet. Everywhere you go, people will comment on the car. Male, female, young and old--Everyone loves it!!

Again every aspect of the car is in top shape.
Engine- Excellent
Transmission- Excellent. shifts smooth
Suspension Solid, smooth and tight
Brakes-Excellent
Interior- Very good Original condition
Exterior-Excellent

Ready to run.  TURN KEY.  Drive anywhere.

I am so confident of the quality and strength of this car I am selling it with NO RESERVE!!!!   High Bidder WINS.

Zetsche's CEO tenure extended through 2016 at Daimler

Sun, 24 Feb 2013

There appear to be two takes on Daimler CEO Dieter Zetsche having his contract extended for three more years, to 2016. A report in The Detroit News quotes the chairman of Daimler's supervisory board, Manfred Bischoff, talking up the stability at the top, "With today's extensions of the contracts of Dieter Zetsche and Thomas Weber, we are maintaining the important continuity at the top executive level." Bischoff also stated that that Zetsche has a plan to "further enhance Daimler's overall performance."
Over at Reuters, though, the three-year extension was seen as a lack of complete confidence in Zetsche's plans, since his contract was supposedly meant to be extended by five years. A spokesman said the board decided to extend executive contracts by only three years if the person was 60 or would turn 60 during the contract, but that was news to observers. Zetsche wants to make Mercedes-Benz the top selling luxury manufacturer globally by 2020, but has fallen to third place behind Audi and BMW. It hasn't held the top spot 2005, and investors judged it valued at half that of BMW at the end of 2012 once Daimler's truck business was subtracted.
Analysts cites the fact that Daimler stock hasn't bested its rivals but twice in twelve years, and that the company revised its profit target downward last year by nearly one billion euros, warning of stagnant earnings this year and will miss its original margin target for 2013.

Daimler employees can set email to auto-delete during vacation

Mon, 18 Aug 2014

The Internet has shrunk the world in terms of the way people communicate by making it possible to send an email from Oslo and have it show up in Cleveland almost immediately. But that instant contact has wrecked the work/life balance for many. They get home from a long day at the office, yet they can never fully put their feet up and relax because another hour or more of checking and replying to emails awaits. However, German automotive giant Daimler is putting an end to that churn, at least while its employees are on vacation.
About 100,000 Daimler employees in Germany are eligible to opt-in to a new program called Mail on Holiday, according to The Atlantic. When the workers go on vacation, they can switch it on, and the service auto-deletes all of their incoming email. "Our employees should relax on holiday and not read work-related emails," said Wilfried Porth, board member for human resources, to The Financial Times as cited by The Atlantic.
Mail on Holiday puts a thumb on the scale of work/life balance in favor of a little more free time. The system means that Daimler employees shouldn't even be tempted to check their email on vacation because there's nothing there - and it also avoids them coming back from a relaxing holiday only to find a mailbox packed full of hundreds of unread messages. These days, people are absolutely obsessed with their work, often to the detriment of their health, not to mention spending time with their families and friends. On one hand, Mail on Holiday sounds like the sort of vacation breakthrough we'd need to truly unplug and unwind, but on the other hand, it makes our skin crawl just thinking about the lack of communication. 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG

Fri, 22 Feb 2013

Make way for the 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG, the most wonderfully preposterous car I have ever driven.
There is absolutely no reason why any two-seat roadster should be fitted with a twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter V12 developing 621 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque, but I sure am glad that Mercedes-Benz doesn't see things that way.
Drop into the leather-lined cockpit of this $213,145 provocateur, floor the accelerator pedal as I did over and over again, and 60 miles per hour falls in a traction-limited 3.9 seconds. Top speed has been electronically held to 186 mph (this apparently saves Gulfstream jet owners from embarrassment). Forget the SL550 and SL63 AMG, the valets will trip over themselves attending to the tycoon driving this thoroughbred - it's the real deal.
