1973 Mercedes-Benz 280SE 4.5

This car has been up on jack stands for about 20 years in my backyard, protected under a cover until 4 years ago.  It was in regular use and well taken care of until it was "retired".

As far as running i
t or testing functionality, no attempts have been made yet.  A stack of old service records are available.

Notes from a cursory inspection:

1.  Exterior:  Body, chrome, windows and wheels all appear in very good shape, except for the rust on the hood and roof.  Missing hood ornament.  Quick visual inspection showed wheel wells and suspension/undercarriage all appear to be in good condition, except for rust on the muffler/pipes, and a small patch of rust inside trunk.

2.  Interior:  The seats and door leather, dash controls and gauges, wood paneling in dash, and the carpeting all appear in very good condition, with these notes:  Missing radio.  Vent controls need replacing.  Cracks in the padding of dash and doors.  Warping to wood trim near the windshield and to wood in the door frames.  Small tear in the leather of back seat cushion.  Some blemishes on rear floor carpet.

3.  The front passenger door works fine.  The other three doors have a locking mechanism that stopped working while the car was sitting and they do not currently open.

It has not yet been professionally inspected and other issues may be present.

Because this car is not currently running, please factor that into your delivery arrangements.  This is an overall very promising classic Mercedes-Benz ready for a revival.

In Which Mercedes' Sprinter Becomes A Long-Distance Sherpa
In the wintery wilds of northern Alaska, even the cute little critters want to kill you.
As I am about to nod off on my long leg flight from Minneapolis to Anchorage ahead of driving to the Arctic Circle, the friendly twenty-something Alaskan knitting furiously in the seat next to me pauses and says, "When you're driving up there, don't open your windows." In the dead of winter? I hadn't planned on cruising alfresco, but her warning to keep the glazing snugged against the weatherstripping is one I would take to heart. She continues: "If you leave 'em open, a fox is liable to jump right in. There are lots of rabid foxes up there, and they leap into your car and just Go. To. Town." And here I was, thinking that a curious bear or maybe an ill-placed moose in the road was going to be my biggest potential four-legged threat. In the wintery wilds of northern Alaska, even the cute little critters want to kill you.

Mercedes-Benz killing Maybach in 2013, replacing with S600 Pullman

Fri, 25 Nov 2011

According to an unnamed Mercedes-Benz source speaking with AutoWeek, the German automaker is killing off its Maybach line in 2013.
The unsurprising news comes after the brand was resurrected in 2002, but failed to meet sales expectations with its two core models, the Maybach 57 and 62. Further solidifying its fate, a deal with Aston Martin to aid in the development of future Maybachs fell through earlier this year.
According to the AutoWeek insider, the plan is to continue to sell both Maybach models through the end of 2013, after which the fifth-generation S-Class will go on sale. When that happens, three new variants of the S-Class will be available, including an all-new, range-topping S600 that brings back the Pullman moniker and may be better suited to competing with the likes of Bentley and Rolls-Royce.

Russia gives its Olympic medalists new Mercedes

Thu, 27 Feb 2014

Russian medalists at the recently concluded Sochi Winter Olympics are being rewarded quite handsomely for their service to the Motherland. In addition to the $120,000 being handed out for each gold medal, the $76,000 being awarded for slivers and $52,000 given to bronze winners, now word has come out that each of Russia's medalists will be gifted a new Mercedes-Benz.
As with the prize amounts, the type of Mercedes offered was based on what sort of medal was won. Gold medalists got a new GL-Class, silver medalists were given an ML and bronze medalists were treated to a GLK. As prices for Mercedes are higher in Russia, the cheapest model, the GLK, was the equivalent of $59,500, according to The Moscow Times. The cars were handed out by Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, pictured above with figure skating medalist Julia Lipnitskaia.
"I was a bit shocked at the car I was given," Anton Shipulin, a member of the gold-medal biathlon relay team, told RIA-Novosti. "Of course I knew what kind of model it would be, but I didn't totally believe it." For athletes not old enough to drive, like 15-year-old Lipnitskaia, their Mercedes will come complete with a driver.
