This is a very nice and clean 240d. Southern car from Chattanooga Tn since new. Purchased new by a local signal mountain resident in 1979 at Andy Trotter (Long MB) in Chattanooga. One owner until 2012. Original owner is a wealthy family in Chattanooga. When I got the car there were Chattanooga country club ($25000 initiation fee) and McCallie private school parking decals on the windshield. So I believe this car was to be maintained with an open checkbook over the years and it shows. It is not a $10000 car but it could be with the right owner. Or simply do with it as I would. Drive it like it is. I have owned 5 w123 cars over the years and I get more questions and headturns in this car than any other I have owned. I think its all about the hubcaps! lol
The car has complete books and most service records. I even have the window sticker, salesmans business card, touch up paint (original and dried out) nice shop manual, and original non molested first aid kit! The spare is original and tool bag is complete in the trunk.
The car has under 176k miles and was obviously well cared for and garage kept. Paint is original and still looks very good. The chrome is excellent as well but a few pieces could use polishing. I have simply handwashed the car. It has not been detailed at all. Interior is remarkable for the age with only one small dash crack. Seats are not torn or worn out. The front center armrest was a $114 option in 1979 and it looks new. Headliner and rear speaker deck look very good. Carpet is very presentable. Amazing how durable the interiors are on these cars. All the wood is present and looks nice.
manual window car
vacuum locks work terrific and hold for a few days
power sunroof was a $665 option and it works well. It is a little slow to close but I just help it along with my right hand when closing.
The original Europa radio has long been replaced by a decent Kenwood CD stereo.
power antenna works great and switch on dash does as well
cruise control has a mind of its own. It works sometimes but you have to try several times to get it to hold.
heater and all control work great. Blower works on all speeds and works good.
rear defrost works well
dash lighting is good
2.4 diesel 4 cyl makes around 62hp and pulls strong (yawn) for a 240d. Cranks easily. Very little smoke. does not leak oil but has typical seepage for this vintage. Recent valve adjustment
4spd automatic shifts very well with NO slippage or flaring. Its shifts just right. Kickdown switch works well for grabbing 1st gear.
new alternator and heavy duty duralast battery.
BRAND NEW DUNLOP TIRES!
Drives straight and handles well on the road. Tracks straight with a little on center play in the steering wheel. Very common.
No clunks or work out suspension parts. Very solid
New MB star hood ornament!
The car is ready to drive!
A/C is in-op. Needs compressor and r134 conversion. Belt is off compressor. My mechanic charges $800 to replace and repair.
99% RUST FREE. southern cars do not rust. NO SNOW!
My name is Joe and I love old Volvos and Mercedes. I have owned over 20 old volvos and MB. I look for well maintained ones that I play with for a while and then pass on to another enthusiast. you can contact me at 7o65o8396three with more info. Feel free to text or whatever works for you. If I do not answer leave a message. I do have the car listed locally so feel free to make offers. Thanks
I do expect a $500 PayPal deposit within 24 hrs of auctions end. Auctions are expensive so please have your money together before you bid. I can assist with airport pickup at either Chattanooga or Atlanta airports. Thanks
BELOW IS A VIDEO I RECORDED ON MY GOPRO WHILE DRIVING TO WORK A FEW WEEKS AGO. I MADE A COMMENT ABOUT NEW PAINT. THE CAR DOES NOT HAVE NEW PAINT. I MEANT TO SAY GOOD PAINT. HAHA.

Mercedes testing C-Class plug-in hybrid modes in Germany
Wed, 07 May 2014Testing appears to be underway for what would be the first Mercedes-Benz C-Class with a hybrid powertrain. We can see a pair of the prototypes undergoing testing in Germany, with one, a C-Class Wagon, still heavily clad in camouflage and featuring a more noticeable outlet on the passenger side of its rear bumper.
There's also a more production-looking sedan, which features a not-so-discreet flap over its rear-bumper outlet. It's difficult to speculate on power outputs for this fuel-sipping C-Class, although our spies seem to think that this car will feature some combination of a four-cylinder gas engine with an electric motor, although just which four is unclear (note, we wouldn't mind if MB fit its 2.0-liter turbo with some batteries and motors). Regardless, the four-pot/electric motor seems like a pretty reasonable combo, although it probably means that Mercedes won't be challenging the six-cylinder-powered system of the BMW ActiveHybrid3 any time soon.
When the plug-in C-Class arrives later this year as a 2015 model, it will likely offer a full range of driving modes, including both gas or electric, only, as well as a more traditional hybrid mode.
Race Recap: 2013 Japanese Grand Prix flips several scripts [spoilers]
Mon, 14 Oct 2013Japan's Suzuka circuit is a great track that all the drivers love, but it doesn't usually provide the most thrilling, head-to-head racing. Where it does excel, however, is with surprises and "What just happened there?!" moments, and this year it was no different.
It started with Mark Webber in his Infiniti Red Bull Racing out-qualifying his teammate Sebastian Vettel for the first time this year. They were followed closely by Lewis Hamilton in the first Mercedes-AMG Petronas, the still-solid Romain Grosjean again outdoing teammate Kimi Räikkönen, Felipe Massa racing for another seat in Formula One and putting his Ferrari in fifth, then Nico Rosberg in the second Mercedes, Nico Hülkenberg in the first Sauber, Fernando Alonso in the second Ferrari, and Räikkönen continuing to do himself no favors by qualifying tenth.
For the second year in a row, the lights going out was the cue to start the first corner action...
Next Mercedes S-Class stretching into this 600 Pullman limo
Fri, 15 Mar 2013To the concern of nobody in particular, Mercedes-Benz will not be re-upping its Maybach line of ultra-luxury limousines. No, instead the German automaker will be stretching its already roomy S-Class, to make this upcoming 600 Pullman version of the decked-out beast.
The car in our new gallery of spy shots is sporting beefy B-pillars and a massive set of rear doors that should allow perfectly graceful ingress and egress from what is likely to be a palatial rear space. (In one photo we can even see a long-wheelbase S-Class in line with the new Pullman, handily exhibiting the size of the new variant.) The exterior modifications are otherwise obscured, though we can guess at revised front and rear fascia and lighting elements, based on both end being heavily taped for these test runs.
It's a good bet that the Pullman will make use of M-B's twin-turbocharged V12 engine, though sources indicate that a hybrid version might eventually be in the offing, as well.
