Replaced parts within the last 30,000 miles: brakes and rotors (all around), front end, front springs, rear shocks, clutch, rear axle (driver side), Toyo tires (less than 10,000 miles), starter, alternator, glow plugs, glow plug relay, fuel injectors, fuel lines, radiator, power steering pump, belts, battery, full exhaust line including header and muffler.  Car passed Colorado diesel emissions inspection in April 2013.

This car is also equipped with a secondary tank Greasecar system and an on-board filtration system.  Entire grease system manufactured by Greasecar.  On-board filtration system with 12' hose allows user to draw grease (waste vegetable oil; WVO) directly from grease-bin, passing it through a 1-micron sock filter (in heated housing) prior to transfer to cubie or directly into secondary grease tank.  Grease system burns filtered vegetable oil as an alternative to diesel fuel.  The grease system does not affect the normal operation of the vehicle since the "default-mode" burns diesel fuel from the primary diesel tank during each start-up and shut-down.  The car functions very well on diesel and does not require vegetable oil to operate.

I have been meticulous about sourcing high-quality WVO for the entire life of this system (since July 2009).  In addition to using clean WVO, I have been proactive about changing the in-line fuel filter that the WVO passes though before reaching the engine.  Additionally, I would often filter the WVO twice before putting it into the auxiliary tank, before it passes through the in-line fuel filter.  This car also has the "buzz box" installed, which reminds the operator to purge the WVO fuel lines before turning off the vehicle after the car has been running on WVO.  The Greasecar system has worked flawlessly since it was installed.  The beauty of running on WVO is that when you obtain oil for free, the more you use it, the more money you save.  I estimate that my cost to run on WVO is about $0.03/mile when executed correctly, opposed to approximately $0.15 when running on diesel.  The fuel economy running on diesel is approximately 30-35 mpg, and on WVO the fuel economy is approximately 20-25 mpg.

Mechanically speaking, the car is in good condition.  When the car was tested for emissions, the mercedes diesel mechanic mentioned that the engine is running just as it should be.  The body is also in good condition, with good paint and no rust holes.  There are a few minor dents, which are visible upon close inspection.  As with any old mercedes, there are a few flaws which do not interfere with normal operation of the vehicle: the valve cover gas vent port (plastic) no longer seals tightly and some oil escapes around this seal; the gasket between the oil filter housing and block needs replacement, along with the front main oil seal (both of which can be done without removing the engine); the passenger side rear window has fallen off it's tracks (hand-cranked operation) and has been blocked in the closed position; the sunroof visor that flips up when the sunroof is open needs assistance when closing.

If you have any questions, please send me a message and I will respond as quickly as possible.

Thanks!

Mercedes making aggressive plans for Chinese market

Wed, 28 Aug 2013

Mercedes-Benz is preparing a major product offensive to counteract lagging sales in the Chinese market, aiming 20 new or updated models at the People's Republic in the next two years, according to a report by Reuters. The plan is part of MB's so-called 2020 Initiative, which will see the Stuttgart-based manufacturer dump 2 billion Euros ($2.67 billion) into its Chinese market vehicles in a bid to boost sales to 300,000 units by 2015.
Were it to succeed, China would become the largest market for the Silver Arrow, outpacing Germany and the United States. Leading the charge will be the redesigned E-Class, which is set to launch in China this week. That will quickly be followed by the S-Class, and eventually by the GLA-Class in 2014.
Mercedes has struggled in China, especially relative to its German competition, BMW and Audi. Where Mercedes saw a mere four-percent increase in 2012 sales to 206,150 units, Audi was up a staggering 32 percent, while BMW's numbers jumped 41 percent. While some voices, according to Reuters, accuse Munich and Ingolstadt of boosting their numbers through hefty incentives, the fact remains that Mercedes was just walloped by its competitors last year.

Mercedes-Benz killing Maybach in 2013, replacing with S600 Pullman

Fri, 25 Nov 2011

According to an unnamed Mercedes-Benz source speaking with AutoWeek, the German automaker is killing off its Maybach line in 2013.
The unsurprising news comes after the brand was resurrected in 2002, but failed to meet sales expectations with its two core models, the Maybach 57 and 62. Further solidifying its fate, a deal with Aston Martin to aid in the development of future Maybachs fell through earlier this year.
According to the AutoWeek insider, the plan is to continue to sell both Maybach models through the end of 2013, after which the fifth-generation S-Class will go on sale. When that happens, three new variants of the S-Class will be available, including an all-new, range-topping S600 that brings back the Pullman moniker and may be better suited to competing with the likes of Bentley and Rolls-Royce.

Watch Schumacher's hot lap of N"urburgring in Mercedes F1 car

Fri, 31 May 2013

In advance of the Nürburgring 24-hour race last weekend, Mercedes-Benz put on a demonstration that had Michael Schumacher playing catch-up in a Formula One car against four examples of AMG metal. There were four cars sent off in staggered starts before Schumacher: an A45 AMG, E63 AMG 4Matic, SLS AMG Black Series, and an SLS AMG GT3 car. "Mr. Formula One," as the German television commentators call him, left three minutes after the SLS AMG GT3.
There are two videos of Schumacher's lap, the first is on-board footage - and even though there were several GoPros on the car the POV never cuts away from the front wing. You can hear the throttle and tell he's not pushing it, you can also tell how bumpy the track is. The second video is footage from the German Sport1 channel - with commentary in German - that shows all the cars taking off and takes the aerial view of proceedings. He looks to be going a lot faster in that one. You can compare and contrast yourself with the videos below.
Oh, and it's worth noting that, even with the likely restricted car, and the made-for-TV environment, Schumi turned in a quick lap. The nose camera shows the F1 car start to slow down on the back straight, near the start/finish line, right around the modern-length track record time of six minutes and eleven seconds.
