1982 Mercedes-benz 240d on 2040-cars
Junction City, Kansas, United States
1982 Mercedes Benz 240D. We purchased this vehicle from the original
owner in 2011 with 78298 miles. The woman hadn't been able to drive for some time but had always kept the car garaged and well maintained. She
had also kept all of the maintenance records which will be included.
We have used one reputable import mechanic exclusively to do any work we
have needed done on the car. Hopefully the pictures are worth a
thousand words in that the vehicle is in beautiful shape. The car runs
great and has been a pleasure to drive and has drawn a great deal of
attention. The odometer stopped working just prior to a trip in 2012. The cost of repair when we got back was going
to be just shy of $400.00, which we opted not to do at the time.
Unfortunately, we never did have it done as this is my wife's car and
just isn't driven enough that we worried about it. We did try to add up
how many grandchildren trips have been taken, and other known trips, and
came up with an estimate of about 8000 miles since the odometer quit,
but again, unfortunately cannot verify that number. One other issue is
that the car has used oil since we
purchased it. The mechanic has not been able to determine exactly why
since the car does not smoke like a car that burns oil and there are no
apparent leaks to explain the loss. He did tweak a couple of things that
he thought might be contributing factors but we can't see that it made
any difference. The interior is in excellent condition with only slight
leather shrinkage around the windows. My wife loves the car but it
does need to be in a garage on very cold days if it is going to start
easily and we don't have a garage. She has decided to go back to her
first love of a Volkswagen.

Watch this perfectly nice Mercedes get crushed by a front-end loader
Mon, 25 Mar 2013In a world where the YouTube hoax continues to thrive, it's hard to know what to think of this little vid, but here are the facts as we know them: a coupe that looks like a first-generation Mercedes-Benz CLK gets crushed by a giant front-end loader. There you have it.
Our questions arise in the aftermath - we know industrial resource machinery is heavy, but the Benz gets squashed so flat we wonder if someone's trying to play a joke on us. We hear that the white coupe may have been the heavy-equipment operator's foreman's car, but who knows? The on-camera interview seems awfully conveniently placed, yes? See for yourself in the video below and then leave us your thoughts in Comments.
Mercedes has already booked 30k orders for new S-Class
Mon, 21 Oct 2013When Toyota snags 30,000 Corolla orders over a three-month span, it's entirely possible we're in the midst of a global economic collapse and that the end is nigh. That's because the scale for Toyota is so very large. Mercedes-Benz, on the other hand, operates on a much smaller scale, particularly when we talk about its higher-end models, like the S-Class.
In 2012, Mercedes sold 65,000 of its flagship sedans in Germany and the EU. That's 178 units per day, for 365 days. Based on that, you can imagine the excitement at Stuttgart when it accepted 30,000 orders for the new S-Class in just three months. That's an average of 333 per day on a continent with a notoriously shaky economy. Now, admittedly, this enthusiasm could wane as the refitted S-Class becomes more common and Mercedes achieves market saturation in Europe's many chauffeur and livery services, but Mercedes isn't choosing to look at it that way.
"The new S-Class has already jumped back into the lead in terms of new vehicle registrations in Germany and its neighboring European countries," Mercedes-Benz head of sales and marketing, Ola Kaellenius, said in a statement last week.
Boston bombers were tracked using Mercedes mbrace [w/video]
Sun, 28 Apr 2013We now know Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the two brothers said to be behind the Boston Marathon bombings, planned to head for New York City to detonate more improvised explosive devices. As it turns out, that plan was foiled by the quick thinking of one Mercedes-Benz owner, diligent police work and the Mercedes-Benz mbrace system. When the brothers carjacked a 26-year-old Chinese entrepreneur identified only as "Danny," they didn't realize his Mercedes-Benz M-Class was equipped with the mbrace system, which can call for help in the event of an accident or track the vehicle in the event of a theft.
According to reports, the Tsarnaev brothers held Danny hostage for nearly 90 minutes while they drove around Boston forming a plan until they had to stop for fuel. When one of the brothers went inside to pay, the other put his gun down for a moment. Danny took the opportunity to unlatch his seat belt, open the door and run to another nearby gas station, where he told the owner to call the police.
When police arrived, they used the mbrace system to track the SUV after receiving Danny's permission, and it wasn't long before a shootout between police and the brothers ensued. When it was over, the eldest brother lay dead in the street. For more on the story, view the video report available below.
