1983 Mercedes 240D with Elsbett vegetable oil conversion kit.  Diesel, biodiesel or veggie oil (SVO) can be mixed in a single tank system. Conversion consists of an additional fuel filter and an electrical switch connected to a heat exchanger in the fuel line.  http://www.elsbett.com for more information.  It was professionally installed in 2006 just before I bought the vehicle.  I've only run a few gallons of vegetable oil and always mixed with diesel.

Vehicle has been kept in a garage and away from road salt in winter. Rides smooth, especially fun to drive on the highway. These cars are built to last a long time.  Mileage is 141,326.  MPG is 25 to 30. A/C, cruise control, leather interior, vacuum door locks and antenna, idle control adjust knob, manual windows, original Becker radio with cassette player, fog lights.  Full size spare tire, Bilstein jack.  New - brake pads, 2 calipers, Bosch starter, glow plugs, fuel filter and prefilter, brake master cylinder, tailpipe.  The chrome and the bumpers all around are in beautiful shape.  The paint is in good shape for being original but there is some cracking and the left rear door is partly repainted - see pictures.  A very slow oil leak has been present since I got it.  The v belt wines a little when warming up and needs to be replaced. Windshield has a small 1-inch ding from a pebble.  One of the window cranks doesn't match the others - see picture.  There is a little rust underneath but it has been regularly undercoated.  Some cracks in the dash - see pictures.

Included:  Chilton's Manual for this car, a book about the conversion and 2 veggie oil filters.

Aston or Bust? Maybach's fate to be decided next month

2011 Maybach 62 - Click above for high-res image gallery
What will become of Maybach? That question has been rattling around the halls of Daimler headquarters in Stuttgart for some time now. But all questions will be answered, and answered soon: according to reports, the German automaker is currently evaluating prototypes and propositions for its top-end marque, and will make its decision next month.
So, what are the options? On the one hand, Daimler could kill the Maybach brand altogether. It was a notion ill conceived and even more poorly executed, taking an old platform and building a new flagship atop it. In that way, it was sort of like the Chrysler Crossfire, only far more costly to both the buyer and manufacturer. On the other hand, Daimler could opt for the long-time-coming proposition of contracting the production (and possibly much of the development) of a new generation of Maybachs to Aston Martin.

Mercedes-Benz GLK coupe to get 2016 intro

Wed, 23 Jan 2013

Radio chatter around the emerging small, premium crossover coupe genre has thus far been dominated by the Land Rover Evoque and the Mini Paceman. According to a report in Car, the Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class (shown above) has received its invitation to the party and will spend the next three years getting ready: it's said that two-door variant of the crisply-angled CUV is coming in 2016, along with a redesign befitting its sleeker intentions.
To be based on the MRA platform - the rear-drive version of the company's three new modular platforms, it will also support the coming 2013 S-Class and could eventually get an AMG version to help it compete with segment offerings like the forthcoming Porsche Macan. Not much else is known about it beyond its name: Car says it will be called the GLC, a friendly nomenclature we remember best as a Mazda hatchback (allegedly for "Good Little Car"). Internet oldtimers may remember the Mazda GLC as the predecessor to the 323 (which in turn came before today's Mazda3). Either way, the GLC is not to be confused with the larger upcoming BMW X6 rival based on the ML-Class (reportedly called GLS) which is also said to still be in the works, or the front-drive based GLA, a model also edging toward production.

Next Mercedes-Benz C-Class spotted in the snow

Mon, 11 Mar 2013

The entry-level Mercedes-Benz C-Class has long felt like nothing more than, well, just that. Aside from the potent and delicious C63 AMG models, there hasn't been much to set the C-Class apart in the entry-level luxury/sport segment, leading to the model being regarded by many as "The Cheap Mercedes." No, it's certainly not a bad car, but for our money, it hasn't stood up particularly well to competitors like the BMW 3 Series or Audi A4.
So with the handsome new CLA-Class coming to round off the entry-level end for Mercedes-Benz, big plans are in store for the C-Class. We can see some evidence of that in this latest set of spy shots from our friends at CarPix. According to earlier reports, the new C-Class will be "far more dramatic" in the visuals department, and while the sedan's sculpting is still covered by camo, the much sleeker headlamp design we see here is, at the very least, a good start. The car's overall size is expected to grow a bit to further distance itself from the CLA, though thanks to lightweight materials, curb weight isn't expected to increase.
Just like the current model, the new C-Class is expected to use four- and six-cylinder engines, both gas- and diesel-fed, and overall power output for the global engine range should span from 120-ish on the low end to as much as 330. These new engines are expected to be mounted lower and farther rearward than before, offering better balance for both rear- and 4Matic all-wheel drive configurations. And as for that AMG? Rumors suggest a turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 will fall underhood.
