1991 Mercedes-benz 350sd -- Diesel, Low Miles! on 2040-cars
Salem, Massachusetts, United States
Relisting note #1: I am relisting this car due to a non-paying high bidder. He arrived and complained of paint condition not matching photos -- despite note on fading clear coat in original description (below). As always, bidders are strongly encouraged to view the car or arrange an inspection BEFORE bidding. I have added two photos showing the trouble spots in the paint condition in greater detail. Relisting note #2: If you have zero or negative feedback ratings, contact me prior to bidding. ----- 126,400 miles since new. Last year of the hand-built W126-series Benzes -- German cars that are famously solid, strong, and over-engineered. The diesel engines in particular are known for going 3-400,000 miles without breaking a sweat. Gets mid-20's MPG. Turbo spools and pulls strong. Hydraulic suspension works perfectly. The sound of the doors closing reminds me of a bank vault. Interior is clean and intact. No holes, tears or excessive wear on the leather. Dash and headliner are flawless. Extra set of floor mats are a bit worn, but the permanent carpet is clean, as can be seen in the photos. Sunroof works well, both tilt and slide. Car does need some sorting to be 100%. Here are all the "punch-list" items I can identify:
This Mercedes is fast, heavy, safe, and good on fuel. It would be a great candidate for a veggie-oil conversion. Registration and inspection are current and valid. |

Mercedes FWD platform to last until 2018, convertible and two-seater future uncertain
Mon, 22 Jul 2013Mercedes-Benz seems to be expecting a lot of success from its front-wheel-drive CLA-Class. Automotive News is reporting that the sub-C-Class sedan could grow when its second generation arrives in 2018.
The current FWD platform for MB underpins the CLA, the B-Class, the GLA-Class, and the A-Class. The B-Class will arrive in North America as an EV for spring of 2014, while the production GLA crossover will arrive three to four months after that. The five-door A-Class won't be crossing The Pond. Sad faces all around.
According to AN, another model will be based on the front-drive architecture, but it won't be coming to the US market. Set to arrive next year, rumors are that it'll be a wagon version of the CLA, sort of like the ill-named five-door CLS Shooting Brake that is also a Europe-only item.
Aston or Bust? Maybach's fate to be decided next month

What will become of Maybach? That question has been rattling around the halls of Daimler headquarters in Stuttgart for some time now. But all questions will be answered, and answered soon: according to reports, the German automaker is currently evaluating prototypes and propositions for its top-end marque, and will make its decision next month.
So, what are the options? On the one hand, Daimler could kill the Maybach brand altogether. It was a notion ill conceived and even more poorly executed, taking an old platform and building a new flagship atop it. In that way, it was sort of like the Chrysler Crossfire, only far more costly to both the buyer and manufacturer. On the other hand, Daimler could opt for the long-time-coming proposition of contracting the production (and possibly much of the development) of a new generation of Maybachs to Aston Martin.
