Garaged in California. This vehicle has been well cared for and per my mechanic is considered to be in very good condition.
I recently had quite a bit of work done because it had been in storage for the last 6yrs and I was considering keeping it. However, shortly after completing the work I decided against it as I already have two other vehicles and would have garage space for it. I'm enclosing a list of everything that was replaced and or added:
REPAIRS
Drain old fuel.
Install new battery.
Perform oil service.

TIRES MOUNT & BALANCE
(4) New Michelin tires mounted & balanced.

FRONT LOWER BALL JOINTS
Replaced Lower ball joints.

FRONT WHEEL BEARINGS
Installed new inner & outer wheel bearings and seals.

MAJOR SERVICE IGNITION SYSTEM
Installed new air & fuel filter.
New spark plugs, distributor capp, rotor, ignition wires, brake fluid & differential fluid.

FRONT & REAR SHOCKS
Installed new front & rear shocks absorbers.

DRIVE BELTS
Instlled all new drive belts.

UPPER & LOWER HOSE THERMOSTAT
Installed new thermostat, radiated hoses & flushed system.
Air conditioning works great!

4 Wheel Alignment.

TRANSMISION SERVICE
Serviced automatic transmission. Installed new filter, gasket & fluids.

ADDITIONAL: Installed a New stereo system with Sirus, CD player, bluetooth iPhone capable.
                      Removed all dents and dings.

Both power windows, mirrors and locks work. The interior has no sun fading and looks good with the exception of rust and a tear on drivers side, as the pictures show.
The exhaust system is in perfect shape and the car sounds great with no leaks what so ever.

Clark Gable's 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing doesn't sell, then does sell for $1.85 million [UPDATE: w/video]

Sat, 19 Jan 2013

How much extra value does previous celebrity ownership add to of a car? Really, there's no way to know until the car in question hits the auction block and bidders start raising their hands. In the case of the 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing you see above, the celebrity owner is none other than Clark Gable, who purchased it new. After Gable's death in 1960, the car changed hands a few times before settling with Charles Wood in 1975.
A high-dollar restoration was performed in 1989, and period accessories added by Gable himself were kept in place, including the Rudge knock-off wheels and Nardi steering wheel. Any Mercedes-Benz 300SL is worth a big chunk of money. In the case of Clark Gable's old Gullwing, the bidding stalled at $1.9 million here at the 2013 Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale. As one of the 5000-series cars, this 300SL carried a reserve, and a bit of after-the-fact dealmaking saw the car change hands for $1.85 million.

Mercedes to market Tesla-powered 2014 B-Class EV in U.S.

Thu, 05 Jul 2012

Looks like another Tesla Motors investor will be looking to cash in on their connection. Autoweek reports Mercedes-Benz will offer their B-Class in the U.S. with Tesla propulsion.
The magazine says their source at the German automaker confirms plans for a B-Class electric-only vehicle. While Tesla already provides battery packs for the battery-powered Smart ForTwo, the B-Class EV will reportedly have Tesla batteries, motor and other components. U.S. residents should be able to procure one sometime in 2014.
The same Mercedes source says plans for a hybrid B-Class have been postponed for now. Adding a range-extending, gasoline-powered engine to an electric vehicle would put the car into a different class for which rebates and incentives aren't as favorable in the States.

The Mansory Speranza proves that money can buy taste and good sense...

Tue, 05 Mar 2013

...Just kidding.
No one in their right mind has ever accused German tuners Mansory of being subtle. So, when our Geneva team wandered across the Mansory Speranza - A Mercedes-Benz Gelandewagen that has been denuded of its roof and spackled inside with quilted leather and red carbon fiber - they didn't ask a lot of existential questions. Why does the Speranza exist? Because Germans are weird sometimes, that's why.
Forget for a moment that you'll have to pay Mansory hundreds of thousands of euros (we're guessing, no pricing information has been revealed) for the privilege of converting your G-Class into something that looks like a Suzuki Samurai, and prepare to be impressed by the details. The tuning house has increased the output of the Mercedes V8 to a healthy 700 horsepower and 668 pound-feet of torque. The wheels are 24-inches, and wear almost unbelievable 305-section ultra-high performance Vresdestein tires. Carbon fiber can be found nearly everywhere one looks, including making up the housing for the spare tire. Oh, and there are leather pillows for the backseats... no word on whether they're standard or optional, but we're looking in to it.
