1983 MERCEDES 300TD WAGON

Selling a 1983 Mercedes-Benz 300TD Station Wagon. The wagon is in good condition and has been on the West Coast it's entire life. It drives great and is extremely reliable. All in all a great car.

The transmission shifts nicely and has a lot of power. Currently the car has a rough idle due to a cylinder misfire. This does not affect the driving of the car.
The rear stabilizing bar has been replaced as have the shocks. The self-leveling suspension is functioning well. Power windows are functioning as is the AC. Heater blows but not extremely hot. The power locks only work from time to time. Only when they want to I guess. (SEE ENGINE UPDATES FOR MORE INFO.)

Exterior is in good shape. Original paint. No rust. Not showroom but does show a few character lines after 30 years.
All original glass and windshield. The car has brand new tires and MB 14" chrome bundt wheels. All new panel molding. Still turns heads while driving around town. I wash the car weekly and wax it every 3 months. (SEE EXTERIOR UPDATES FOR MORE INFO.)

Interior is extremely clean. Carpets are in great shape and console wood looks good. The dash is covered with a plastic mold that matches the interior color of the car. All of the seats are in good condition. The back passenger seat has a loose seam but is not a problem. The trunk carpet is in good shape and comes with a custom fit rubber mat. The headliner is brand new. Interior door panels are all in excellent condition. All seat belts work properly. All interior lighting is new and works properly. I detail the car weekly. (SEE INTERIOR UPDATES FOR MORE INFO.)

I bought the car from a dear friend 3 years ago and have updated a few things since I have owned the vehicle.

ENGINE UPDATES:

New R&R Power Steering Pump.
New Injector Overflow Hoses.
New Air Filter bracket.
Valves adjusted and tightened.
New filters.
Reconfigured the vacuum system. (This helps the performance of the AC and actually makes the power locks work occasionally.)

INTERIOR UPDATES:

New headliner.
New stereo with CD player, USB port and auxiliary jack. Two new front speakers and two new back speakers.

AC is in excellent working condition. (Just gave it a freon boost and blows ice cold.)
New ashtray and working cigarette lighter.
All new window and hazard buttons in center console.New side door ashtrays in back.
New cargo nets and trim on back of front seats.
New visor clips.
New front and back interior lights.

EXTERIOR UPDATES:

Replaced all of the door and roof seal gaskets. (The car has no leaks. This does however make the sunroof non functioning.)
Replaced all of the panel molding around the car.
New tires. (Less than 50 miles on all of them. Spare is properly sized with rim.)
New MB 14" chrome bundt wheels with center caps.
New Hella headlight upgrade.

Thank you for viewing this listing. I hope this car finds a lovely home.

Clark Gable's 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing doesn't sell, then does sell for $1.85 million [UPDATE: w/video]

Sat, 19 Jan 2013

How much extra value does previous celebrity ownership add to of a car? Really, there's no way to know until the car in question hits the auction block and bidders start raising their hands. In the case of the 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing you see above, the celebrity owner is none other than Clark Gable, who purchased it new. After Gable's death in 1960, the car changed hands a few times before settling with Charles Wood in 1975.
A high-dollar restoration was performed in 1989, and period accessories added by Gable himself were kept in place, including the Rudge knock-off wheels and Nardi steering wheel. Any Mercedes-Benz 300SL is worth a big chunk of money. In the case of Clark Gable's old Gullwing, the bidding stalled at $1.9 million here at the 2013 Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale. As one of the 5000-series cars, this 300SL carried a reserve, and a bit of after-the-fact dealmaking saw the car change hands for $1.85 million.
You can see our high-res image gallery above, and the car's official auction description below.

Mercedes-Benz CLA stars in sweeping short with supermodel Karlie Kloss

Wed, 16 Jan 2013

The Mercedes-Benz CLA earned itself a spot on our list of the top five unveils of the 2013 Detroit Auto Show, and for good reason. The German luxury compact is the first small car from the Silver Arrow that looks suitably premium inside and out. Nowness.com has turned out a new video of the CLA featuring super model Karlie Koss in the lead role. We aren't entirely sure what the premise is, but from what we can tell, it looks as if the CLA comes to life and proceeds to be a giant jerk.
After Koss stops to take a closer look at a white horse, the CLA gives the supermodel the old stop-and-go treatment before leaving her on the side of the road. Eventually, the sedan makes nice, but Koss has to ride shotgun instead of taking the controls herself. You can check out the video below to see for yourself.

Chris Harris and David Coulthard wring out a Mercedes Fintail at the N"urburgring

Thu, 17 Oct 2013

If there's one thing we've learned from the latest video from Drive, it's that the combination of Chris Harris and David Coulthard will produce some very quotable moments. Take this exchange, for example.
DC: "We are by some way the slowest."
CH: "But we're in a class of three cars, apparently."
