A really nice Mercedes 300SD Turbodiesel.  All records since 2000.  I've owned since 2006 and have always kept up with all maintenance.  Some upgrades: repainted about 3 years ago, new replica wheels, replaced taillight lenses (they get yellowed on old Benzes), new Becker MB Stereo with CD player.  Everything is current (fluids, battery, brakes, tires). A/C works. These are incredible cars and it doesn't run a bit differently from when I bought it in 2006.  Some of these diesels shift hard, but this one shifts very smoothly and the steering is tight.

Squawks: odometer quit working about 6 mos ago, I never fixed because my Tech said it was not reasonable to do it, something about a plastic gear that wears down after 30 years and all those miles and hard to find a replacement.  Miles don't matter that much to me anyways.  I've put at least 100k on the car and like I said it runs exactly the same.  There is a spot of rust on the driver door, and the paint job is pretty cheap--Earl Scheib or something like that, but the car looks great and I felt it was unreasonable to spend $7k plus on a really good paint job for a 30 year old car that isn't worth that much.  Engine leaks some oil.  I think this is fairly typical with an older diesel. It always has leaked some.  It's just something I live with.  Not a big deal.  You can have the engine steam cleaned and have a tech chase down the leaks, but again, probably not worth it.

Just a great car.  The only reason I'm selling it is that I have another similar W126 Mercedes and am just simplifying and reducing my possessions. 23.9 MPG in regular, city driving and 30 MPG on the highway.  A great Biodiesel conversion car, too.  I've never done that but am told these old Benzes run really well on Biodiesel or cooking oil.

2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class revealed again in 1:18 scale

Fri, 10 May 2013

There is plenty to look forward to when it comes to the 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class, but it could end up being a fairly anticlimactic reveal thanks to fully exposed spy shots, a leaked press photo and now images of a diecast version of the luxury sedan. Autoweek.nl has images showing a highly detailed 1:18 scale model of the redesigned S-Class that matches up with everything we've seen so far.
This isn't the first time a model car spoiled a new vehicle's reveal, as the 2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class and 2013 SRT Viper were both unceremoniously revealed in toy form first. World Car Fans is reporting that the car 2014 S-Class will be officially unveiled on May 15, but at this point, all that's left to wonder about is the official on-sale date and what will be under the hood.

World Car Of The Year down to its final four

Wed, 13 Mar 2013

Judges for the World Car of the Year Award have narrowed down the finalists to just four vehicles. Out of a total of 42 entries, only the Mercedes-Benz A-Class, Porsche Boxster/Cayman, Scion FR-S/Subaru BRZ/Toyota GT-86 and Volkswagen Golf remain standing. For Volkswagen, this marks the second consecutive year the company has had an entry among the finalists, and the fourth time since 2009. In order to qualify, a vehicle must be on sale on two continents during the span of time between January 1, 2013 and May 30, 2013. A panel of 66 journalists from 23 countries then vote on the finalists.
Three vehicles have made the cut for the last round of voting on the 2013 World Performance Car as well, with the Cayman/Boxster and FR-S/BRZ/GT-86 running against the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta. Meanwhile, the Renault Zoe, Tesla Model S and Volvo V60 Plug-In Hybrid are duking it out for the World Green Car Award. Finally, the World Car Design of the Year Award is up for grabs between the Aston Martin Vanquish, Jaguar F-Type, and the Mazda6. Check out the full press release below. Overall winners will be presented at the 2013 New York Auto Show.

UK workers strand car on island of asphalt to keep working

Wed, 06 Feb 2013

Generally speaking, when you illegally park your car, you're likely to get ticketed and towed, but there is probably at least one motorist in Scotland who wishes that was the case. After workers had blocked off a portion of the parking lot for the Edinburgh Waverley railway station, the driver of this Mercedes-Benz S-Class reportedly moved some of the barriers to park in one of the empty spots.
Rather than having the vehicle towed, the work crew simply tore up the asphalt around the leaving just the one parking spot intact, and as you can see in the image above (posted to the Twitter account of Harold Norstad), the crew even built a small asphalt ramp so the car could get off its blacktop pedestal. Since this happened last week, there's no word as to whether the car was eventually moved or towed for the resurfacing work to continue.
Let this be a warning...
