Must pick up the car in Stamford, CT. Looks very good outside and inside, but transmission balky, left rear wheel bearing needs replacement, has undercarriage rust, and battery (brand new) drains if car not used regularly. Runs smoothly and drives locally (with noise and some jerking), but not recommended for highway without transmission (4Matic) repair. Wheels and tires in excellent condition, all leather in excellent condition, engine in excellent condition. Would be for someone interested in doing the repair work, or harvesting loads of parts and then making $500-$800 on the scrap metal.
Recently replaced many hoses, installed brand new radiator, refurbished fuel regulator. I have only owned it for 3 months, and cannot do the kind of work needed myself. Transmission is a big project. |

VW looking to MAN up, ditch Mercedes van deal
Wed, 16 Jan 2013Unlike the US, the commercial truck market throughout the rest of the world is chocked full of competitors from many different automakers. Since 2006, Volkswagen has had a fullsize van called the Crafter that was a result of a partnership with Daimler AG and based on the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter. This partnership is supposed to last through 2016, but Reuters is reporting that VW might be looking to end its relationship with Daimler and create its own van in cooperation with German truck and bus maker MAN.
The article says that VW AG has more than a 75-percent stake in MAN, which would essentially be keeping the new commercial vehicle in-house. Even if VW bolts, Daimler still has a deal worked out in the commercial truck industry between its subsidiary Mitsubishi Fuso and Renault-Nissan to supply the other with different trucks.

We got overexcited when the W203 Mercedes-Benz C-Class sedan came out in 2001, calling it the "Baby Benz" when it really wasn't. We knew that, too, but our enthusiasm for a model more like the old 190 of the '80s was so strong that we were willing to stretch the first-gen C-Class to fit that mold. Today, the C-Class has done what all German premium cars do: grown in size. In this case, grown to satisfy the market intentions of the previous E-Class.
There was the tall A-Class sold from 1998 through 2010, but we never considered that a serious small Benz in the proper spirit, nor was it ever offered in the US. Regardless, we've been craving a smaller, premium, sexy sedan all the while.
