The CLS could get by on it's looks alone, but there is obviously more to it than that. There's power for example. The key distinguishing element between the CLS 500 and the CLS 55 AMG is under the hood wherein resides in this car is a supercharged and intercooled 5-4 liter SOHC 24-Valve V-8. Horsepower- 469 @ 6100 rpm. 516 pound-feet of torque. 0-60 mph in 4.2 seconds, 0-100 in 9.8 seconds, the quater-mile in12.6 at 114mph. The transmission comes with a 5 speed automatic AMG Spec SpeedShift programming with paddle shift option on the steering wheel. To put it lightly a luxury sports car! The car is beautiful with a sumptuous interior to match. Black heated perforated leather seats 10 -way adjustable with suede accents and a suede headliner, wood trim, it also comes equipped with a Navigation system. The rest of the AMG treatment is as you'd expect 19-inch alloys and upgraded sports suspension massive brake calipers with cross drilled rotors, AMG body kit and badges. This car was over $92,000 brand new. The car is beautiful it does have some light surface scratches on the hood, some wear on the front rotors that still stop on the dime. Aston Martin signs Letter of Intent for technical partnership with AMG
Thu, 25 Jul 2013A little over two months ago came reports that Daimler and Aston Martin were in talks, again, about "supply and technical-cooperation agreements." The next step has been taken with Aston Martin announcing that it has signed a Letter of Intent that looks "towards a technical partnership" with Mercedes-AMG GmbH, and the two companies aiming to have definitive agreements done by year's end.
While it will get to use certain electric and electronic components from AMG, the true golden egg for the maker of the Vanquish will be the ability to develop a new line of "bespoke V8 powertrains" that will be fitted to "a new generation of models." In return for opening up the larder, Daimler will get a non-voting stake of up to five percent of Aston Martin.
Nothing else is being said about the tie-up for the moment, but there's a press release below with a few more details.
Mercedes-Benz GLK coupe to get 2016 intro
Wed, 23 Jan 2013Radio chatter around the emerging small, premium crossover coupe genre has thus far been dominated by the Land Rover Evoque and the Mini Paceman. According to a report in Car, the Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class (shown above) has received its invitation to the party and will spend the next three years getting ready: it's said that two-door variant of the crisply-angled CUV is coming in 2016, along with a redesign befitting its sleeker intentions.
To be based on the MRA platform - the rear-drive version of the company's three new modular platforms, it will also support the coming 2013 S-Class and could eventually get an AMG version to help it compete with segment offerings like the forthcoming Porsche Macan. Not much else is known about it beyond its name: Car says it will be called the GLC, a friendly nomenclature we remember best as a Mazda hatchback (allegedly for "Good Little Car"). Internet oldtimers may remember the Mazda GLC as the predecessor to the 323 (which in turn came before today's Mazda3). Either way, the GLC is not to be confused with the larger upcoming BMW X6 rival based on the ML-Class (reportedly called GLS) which is also said to still be in the works, or the front-drive based GLA, a model also edging toward production.
