1999 Mercedes E300D TurboDiesel. 54085 miles

We purchased this car new in 1999. We are the original owners.

It was used just for vacations, day trips etc. We took it to Maine and New Hampshire this past August.

The car was always garaged. Although inside it was also under a fitted cover that we will give the new owner.  We only drove it in the snow a couple times, as we had other, four wheel drive, vehicles.

Finish, paint and headlight lenses look like new, no discoloration. I showed it a local car show at the 50000 mile mark and other MB owners came over to ask how I kept it so pristine.

Many of the services during the warranty period were done at an MB dealer, including a full checkup just before the extended warranty period expired. After that I changed the oil with Mobil synthetic when the flexible service system told me to.

The tires were replaced once with top of the line Michelins and are in good condition.  We just had a front end alignment done a few months ago when the tires were rotated front to back. (The tire shown is the one that Costco replaced under warranty, where they lost my metal valve stem cap.)

We are not smokers, no small children have ever been in this car (our daughter is twenty plus years past car seat age), and not dog owners (cats don't like to ride in cars).

A couple of small chips on door edges, little scruff on the rear bumper. Parking attendant at the J.W. Marriott in Washington D.C. got yellow pylon paint on the front fender some years ago, the hotel paid for it to be repaired by one of the best body shops in our area.

The only technical problem that I know of is that the dashboard LEDs on the speedometer display have sometimes blanked if the car was taken out on a frigidly cold day, like zero outside. I think that has happened twice, but it corrected itself immediately. Suspect it was the car's way of telling me it wanted to go back inside under its blanket.  I did have the dealer check this and they found nothing wrong.

Always starts easily, but I just put in a new Napa heavy duty battery anyhow, since the last five year old one was starting to get a little weak. New air filter over the summer too.

I have had Mercedes 220D, 300D, 300SD, and 300D 2.5 cars and was a Mercedes-Benz Club of America member for many years.  I have owned and operated numerous other diesel trucks, tractors, bulldozers etc. Have taken diesel mechanics night school. Retired from a career managing high tech engineering projects. I can assure you with confidence that this car is in excellent condition.

We have sold three diesel vehicles on eBay, a Mercedes, a Chevy Suburban, and an Isuzu Trooper. New owners have always appreciated the condition the vehicles were in when they saw them for the first time, and how honest we were with the description. We even got a thank you note a year later from one of the buyers.

The only reason we are parting with this car is because we are selling our house with a garage, and it would be a tragedy to store it in the barn at our farm or outside under a tarp.

I intended to keep this car until I died, and it was taken care of that way,
so you can be comfortable that this vehicle is in tip-top shape.   However a change of lifestyle has altered that plan (the keeping the car part at least).

Please email with any questions.

Mercedes-Benz releases US-spec 2014 Sprinter details

Mon, 06 May 2013

Last week, Mercedes-Benz released the details for the updated 2013 Sprinter intended for global markets, but this week it has announced what changes are being made to the US-spec version of the van for the 2014 model year, including the Freightliner model. As expected, most of the changes made to the European model will be present on the 2014 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter when it goes on sale in the US, which is expected to be this fall.
The biggest difference between the Sprinter announced last week and the one headed to our shores is what is found under the hood. While European Sprinters will come with diesel engines and offer the availability of a supercharged four-cylinder gasoline or CNG engine, US Sprinters will still offer the 3.0-liter V6 BlueTEC diesel. This year's Sprinter now comes standard with a new base engine, the 2.1-liter four-cylinder BlueTEC diesel. This smaller engine will produce 161 horsepower and 265 pound-feet of torque, and will be paired to a seven-speed automatic transmission; the optional 3.0 V6 puts out 188 hp and 325 lb-ft of torque, and will be mated to a six-speed auto.
Fuel economy for the new Sprinter has not been announced, but Mercedes-Benz has made numerous changes with the goal of improving efficiency. To this end you'll find a new, low-friction rear axle and the optimization for the generator, fuel pump and power steering pump.

Mercedes to roll out C63 AMG late in 2014 with 4.0L V8

Mon, 30 Dec 2013

The new 2014 Mercedes-Benz C-Class is upon us, launching initially in North America with turbocharged four-cylinder C300 4Matic and six-cylinder C400 4Matic flavors. But that's only the tip of the proverbial iceberg when it comes to the vast array of powertrain configurations that will be offered in the new C-Class in markets around the world. Orders will soon be rolling in for gasoline, hybrid and diesel engines with four, six or eight cylinders, driving the rear wheels or all four, with the seven-speed automatic transmission soon to be replaced by a new nine-speed unit. But what enthusiasts are really looking forward to is the next C63 AMG.
As BMW has done with the M3 (and new M4), Mercedes has gradually ratcheted up the cylinder count in its AMG C-Class, graduating from the 3.6-liter V6 in the original C36 AMG to the 4.3-liter V8 in the C43 AMG, then the 5.5-liter V8 in the C55 AMG before going the distance with the sublime 6.2-liter V8 in the C63 AMG. Like its rivals, Mercedes is expected to use turbochargers as a replacement for displacement in the next model, but unlike its Bavarian rival, it won't be losing any cylinders in the process.
Skipping the 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8 that has gone on to power other AMG models, the next C63 AMG is still expected to introduce a new 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 producing between 450 and 500 horsepower. It'll also reportedly keep the same seven-speed automatic transmission (instead of switching to the new nine-speed), but the jury's still out on whether it'll come with rear- or all-wheel drive (or offer buyers the choice). The downsized V8 - codenamed M177 - is then expected to find its way into other models, but the C-Class will be the first to get it when it arrives before the end of the new year ahead.

Brabus to storm Geneva with 800-hp version of Mercedes SL65 AMG

Wed, 27 Feb 2013

At no point during our recent drive of the 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG did we ever think, "You know, this thing sure is slow." After all, Merc's range-topping SL comes fitted with a twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter V12 capable of sending 621 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque to the rear wheels. But just in case you're still all "meh" about what the SL65 throws down, Brabus will gladly come to your rescue with this, the 800 Roadster.
As its name suggests, the 800 Roadster ups the V12's power figures to 800 horsepower and - wait for it - 1,047 pound-feet of torque. Don't get too excited, though - that torque number has been electronically limited to a measly 811 lb-ft since, you know, the transmission would probably explode if you tried to put the full force through it. Nevertheless, these represent increases of 79 hp and 73 lb-ft over the standard SL65, and that means the 800 Roadster can shoot to 62 miles per hour in just 3.7 seconds - two-tenths of a second quicker than the Merc its based on. More impressively, hitting 124 mph takes just under 10 seconds, and the droptop will finally top out at an electronically limited - limited! - 217 mph. Holy smokes.
To manage all of that speed, Brabus has engineered a special carbon fiber aero kit that reduces lift, and a unique control module for the SL65's active body control suspension lowers the ride height by one full inch. The 800 Roadster rides on new 20-inch wheels, and a unique limited-slip rear differential was added, featuring a 40 percent locking rate that further enhances performance when you're attempting to control the beast at its limits. Interior upgrades include new leather and alcantara surfaces throughout the cabin, including a leather-clad trunk.
