Newport Beach, California, United States

For sale is my absolutely immaculate and fully loaded 1995 Mercedes-Benz E320 Cabriolet. This car was handed down to me from my grandfather who passed away recently. He treated it like his baby, literally, for the 14 years he had it. Originally purchased by Bono in Los Angeles, California (Lead singer of U2) and was used in the music video for "I've Got You Under My Skin" featuring Frank Sinatra and Bono. A classic California car and comes with a clear California title. The car was restored at the Mercedes-Benz Classic Center in Irvine, California in July of 2006 when it had just over 96,000 miles on it. Below is the laundry list of OEM reconditioning the car had that my grandfather spent over $20,000 on.  CALL 424-298-7978 TODAY! This car is listed on all major sites and local advertising and as such will not last. I can guarantee you will not find another one this nice.

Why this car is so special:

 *Originally Celebrity Owned

*OEM Factory Restored and Reconditioned by Mercedes-Benz STARMARK, with only some 30,000 miles put on the car since. Over $20,000 for the resto job.

*September of 1995 Production Date! The production line ended in September and this is literally one of the last HAND BUILT Mercedes to leave the factory. VERY RARE car. Only several hundred were made. This was the only full-size 4-seater convertible Mercedes has ever made.

*As part of the reconditioning, the engine and transmission were rebuilt with factory components. Every component from the crankshaft to the head gaskets to the rod bolts were replaced and every single moving part of the transmission was replaced (clutch packs, bearings, gearsets etc)

*Meticulously Maintained and serviced well before scheduled maintenance was to be done by the owners manual. 91 Octane Premium was ALWAYS used.

*Paint is in STUNNING shape with not a single dent on the entire car. NO major scratches. Absolutely no scuffs anywhere.  Never taken to automatic car wash! Always gets comments, especially at Mercedes car club events. In the past few years some very high offers were given and my grandfather refused to sell the car.

*Looks and drives like a brand new car.  The engine starts up with only one or two turns of the ignition and idles so smooth you can't even tell the car is running. NO tapping, leaking or squeaking from the engine. While driving there are no creaks, rattles or weird things usually typical of older vehicles. Suspension operates perfectly and is very nimble. Not a single crack in the dash or wood set. In fact, the wood set still looks nearly as perfect as it did from the reconditioning with just a few very small scratches.

*EVERY DEVICE on the car works perfectly without a hitch! From the heated seats to the power headrests, to the convertible top, to the brake booster. No service lights are on.

* The leather interior from both the seats to the door paneling is in PERFECT condition with absolutely no rips, tears, or beat up hide. Very supple and soft yet firm. Most unrestored car leather will feel "shiny" at this age...that means the leather is worn out! Not the case here.

*Cosmoline rust-proofing (the shiny gold material) under the hood is still in perfect shape!

Notable Options:

- Heated Seats
- Power Headrests
- Power Roll Bars
- 6 Disc CD Changer w/ Premium Sound
- Alarm System

Recent Repairs & Service as recorded on service records from Mercedes dealership:

*New Cabrio Top Hydraulics (over $1,000 bill)
*New Emissions equipment (cat converters & sensors). Will pass any 50 states emissions without a hitch.
*Four New Michelin Tires
*Air Conditioning Recharged. BLOWS ICE COLD. Compressor has a datestamp on it from July of 2006.
*Transmission Fluid Changed for 30,000 Mile Interval
*Rear Axle Fluid changed
*New OEM Mercedes Battery
*Coolant and Brake Fluid flushed, New Brake pads and rotors for all 4 corners. Another $1000+ bill. There was probably a slight scoring of the rotors that prompted them to be changed as my grandfather was very anal like that.
*$250 Detailing job done this past week by luxury detailer and the car is sitting in the garage waiting for the new owner.

CALL  424-298-7978

The new owner will receive all books and service records and the two original sets of keys. The license plates are not included as they were personalized and are now hanging on my garage wall. I had the dealer put fresh plate covers on it from their service department.

As this is still a 20-year old vehicle it is being sold as-is with no warranty implied.

13-year-old boy swipes dad's Mercedes, drives across Europe

Wed, 16 Jan 2013

After an argument with his adoptive parents that resulted in them taking away his mobile phone, an angry 13-year-old boy ran away from his home in Italy and headed straight to Poland to meet his biological sister. But instead of taking the train or hitching a ride, like most on the run, the young man (an accomplished go-kart racer and car enthusiast) grabbed the keys to his father's Mercedes-Benz and jumped behind the wheel for an impromptu road trip.
With less than 200 euros (about $270) in his wallet and a passport in his pocket, the youngster managed to put more than 500 miles between himself and his distraught parents, crossing two international borders in the process, before German police nabbed him just shy of the Polish border. According to reports, the vehicle was tracked - it wasn't his driving that alerted authorities to his location.
Reunited with his mother and father, who traveled to Germany to retrieve both their son and the vehicle, the young man apologized and acknowledged his error. As a result of his actions, social workers will increase checks on the family and we can be sure his parents are now hiding the keys.

Mercedes-Petronas AMG W04 launched to little fanfare, lots of pressure [w/video]

Tue, 05 Feb 2013

No indoor cocktail hour for the launch of the W04, the newest chassis built by the Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula One team. Instead, Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton spent a morning in photo and video sessions at the track in Jerez, Spain then paused a moment to introduce the car. The team will want the W04 to demonstrate the World Championship credentials of the team personnel and one of the team drivers, instead of the mostly humble performances we've seen over the past three years.
The W04 has been fitted with a new five-element front wing, pushrod front and pull-rod rear suspension, a second-generation Coanda exhaust and an "aggressively packaged" rear end. A small vanity panel, à la Infiniti Red Bull's RB9, covers the stepped nose.
Team principal Ross Brawn has called it "a clear step forward in design and detail sophistication," but as much as we truly respect Brawn's abilities and achievements, we heard him say similar things about the updated W03 last year before almost every race weekend from about mid-season. We really hope he's right this time, and so does the team's newest driver, Lewis Hamilton. We'll do our best to ignore the parallels of the Mercedes F1 team having signed a sponsorship deal with Blackberry, another company trying to find its way back to the top and still struggling, and just point you to the video below of the W04 in action.

France formally moves to ban Mercedes vehicles using contested refrigerant

Wed, 31 Jul 2013

That didn't take long. Shortly after a French administrative court gave the French government a ten-day window to reconsider its ban on registrations of Mercedes-Benz A-, B- and CLA-Class cars using the prohibited R134a refrigerant, the government cited an EU directive to formalize banning the sale of the cars. The country's environmental ministry said that registrations "will remain forbidden in France as long as the company does not to conform to European regulations," meaning so long as they do not use the approved R1234yf refrigerant.
Daimler had won the administrative court decision by challenging France's application of a "safeguard" provision in which the EU allows a country to block sales of cars that would "seriously harm the environment." In spite of Daimler's victory, France has cited that very provision as basis for the continuation of the ban.
Daimler got permission from Germany's KBA federal motor authority to keep selling cars with the coolant banned by EU politicians, and is using that national permission as the right to sell the cars throughout Europe. Meanwhile, above that battle, German politicians are asking the EU to let Mercedes sell the cars in France while the KBA does more testing, at the same time as the EU is threatening Germany with repercussions if it doesn't bring the KBA and Daimler into line.
