Your chance to get into a well maintained and still extremely powerful 1999 Mercedes Benz E430!

I have owned this car for over 10 years and it has been great.  I have made some minor modifications including installing HID headlamps as well as changing the rear tail-lights.  Despite being over 14 years old, this V8 still gives me 25 mpg on the highway.  The car has nearly 189k miles and has been thoroughly maintained with regular oil changes every 10k miles using only 100% synthetic oil.  This car has only been fueled with premium gas.  New tires were put on the car in March 2012 at 169k miles.  In late 2006 this car collided with a deer which resulted in nearly $8k of repair work.

Other recent maintenance work includes:
  • June 2009 - I spent nearly $2,500 changing the oxygen sensor, the mass air flow sensor, the lower ball joints, the upper control arms, and valve covers amongst other work (125k miles)
  • December 2010 - Front coil spring mount (147k miles)
  • October 2011 - Front pads and rotors were replaced (162k miles)
  • March 2012 - Four new tires (169k miles)
  • April 2012 - Replaced the right upper and lower ball joints as well as the left outer tie rod
  • May 2012 - New battery
  • July 2012 - Replaced the motor mount
Since 2005 I have spent nearly $6,500 in total on the car to keep it running in top condition.  It has never let me down.

Despite all the repairs and regular maintenance, this car is still over 14 years old.  As such there are numerous non-critical repairs that could be made including the air conditioner (likely needs a new compressor), the front right fog, and the sunroof mechanical unit.  The biggest cosmetic issue involves rust.  Like many Mercedes from this age (i.e. the Chrysler merger debacle era), this car has rust issues.  I have regular touched up the rust spots with paint, but a true fix would involve buffing and refinishing (reference the pictures).

This car has served me extremely well for over a decade and was my first Benz.  I now hope it will serve as someone else's entry into the wonderful world of MB. This could be a car enthusiasts dream as the work that needs to be done is not major and perfect for someone who wants to roll up their sleeves.  The engine is in great condition and still roars when you gun it.

This car is being sold as is with no guarantees what so ever.  I have tried to take many representative photos to allow prospective buyers to best see the car and its condition.  The blue book for this car is still over $4k.  Please feel free to email me if you have any questions or would like to set up time to see/drive the car.

2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class lineup shows its freshened face

Mon, 14 Jan 2013

Mercedes-Benz showed us its redesigned 2014 E-Class more than a month ago, but the Detroit Auto Show finally gave us a chance to see the full family of mid-size luxury cars and wagons in the flesh. Dieter Zetsche introduced the cars, including sedan, coupe, convertible and station wagon, on stage showing the stylish new design direction.
The wagon and sedan versions (shown as the E400 Hybrid above) will go on sale this spring, while the coupe and cabriolet will hit showrooms over the summer. Check our new gallery of live shots for the entire 2014 E-Class lineup, as well as the previously released press release below.

Next Mercedes-Benz C-Class spotted in the snow

Mon, 11 Mar 2013

The entry-level Mercedes-Benz C-Class has long felt like nothing more than, well, just that. Aside from the potent and delicious C63 AMG models, there hasn't been much to set the C-Class apart in the entry-level luxury/sport segment, leading to the model being regarded by many as "The Cheap Mercedes." No, it's certainly not a bad car, but for our money, it hasn't stood up particularly well to competitors like the BMW 3 Series or Audi A4.
So with the handsome new CLA-Class coming to round off the entry-level end for Mercedes-Benz, big plans are in store for the C-Class. We can see some evidence of that in this latest set of spy shots from our friends at CarPix. According to earlier reports, the new C-Class will be "far more dramatic" in the visuals department, and while the sedan's sculpting is still covered by camo, the much sleeker headlamp design we see here is, at the very least, a good start. The car's overall size is expected to grow a bit to further distance itself from the CLA, though thanks to lightweight materials, curb weight isn't expected to increase.
Just like the current model, the new C-Class is expected to use four- and six-cylinder engines, both gas- and diesel-fed, and overall power output for the global engine range should span from 120-ish on the low end to as much as 330. These new engines are expected to be mounted lower and farther rearward than before, offering better balance for both rear- and 4Matic all-wheel drive configurations. And as for that AMG? Rumors suggest a turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 will fall underhood.

Mercedes AMG and Cigarette Racing debut 2,220-HP electric motor boat

Thu, 14 Feb 2013

Take the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG E-Cell, stretch it and take off the wheels then make it float and you've basically got the just-unveiled Cigarette AMG Electric Drive Concept. Powered by an all-electric powertrain that offers 2,200 horsepower and 2,213 pound-feet of torque (and uses "numerous components" taken from the not-quite-as-yellow SLS AMG Coupé Electric Drive), the sleek concept is being called the "world's most powerful electric drive powerboat." What that means is a top speed of over 100 miles per hour from four 60-kWh lithium-ion batteries and two banks of six liquid-cooled, permanent-magnet synchronous electric motors. And the 240 kWh of total energy should provide plenty of juice out on the water.
Launched (but not literally) at the Miami International Boat Show today, the Cigarette AMG Electric Drive Concept is the result of a partnership between Mercedes-AMG and Cigarette Racing. The boat is 38 feet long (much longer than the 15-foot SLS) and is plastered with AMG branding on the sides and top of the bow above the matte chrome yellow paint (officially called AMG Electricbeam mango). Two 220-kW chargers can refill the batteries, dockside, in about seven hours.
The idea of a powerful electric boat is nothing new (Henrik Fisker talked about a plug-in hybrid watercraft late last year), but this is the first time we've seen Mercedes put its EV technology on the water. Anyone who's afraid of driving an EV in the rain should take note. Check out the complete press release below.
