!!!!! One Owner Low Mileage California 1993 500 Sel !!!!! on 2040-cars

Year:1993 Mileage:79869
Location:

Carlsbad, California, United States

Carlsbad, California, United States

Overview:
You are bidding on an impeccable example of a 1993 500 SEL, the last of the "Overengineered" S class. Only 79K original miles! One owner, religiously maintained and always garaged. There are a lot of W140's out there, but I defy you to find one as clean and unmolested as this one is. No leaks and no warning lights on the dash are the first signs that this vehicle has been taken care of. Vehicle is located in Carlsbad, Ca. I have posted copy of carfax to illustrate extensive maintenance history. California buyer will receive a current smog certificate, and a copy of carfax report. Good Luck.

Engine:
Engine starts easily. Settles into a nice 700 rpm idle. No smoke on start up. Pulls like a locomotive all the way to redline with no hesitation, no missing or knocking.

Transmission:
Transmission upshifts and downshifts seamlessly with no hard shifts or slipping whatsoever. The classic MBZ transmission test of shifting from Park to Reverse to Park again reveals a slight nudge upon engagement. No clunk...no hesitation, just a smooth transition as it was designed.

Paint/Interior:
Chimney Brown Poly Metallic is what Mercedes called this color back then. Paint is original. No signs of repair, body filler or removed panels anywhere. All body panel VIN stickers are present. Nice original shine due to being garaged all of it's life. Interior shows to be perfect. Leather, wood, dash, console, headliner, carpets are all in perfect condition with no tears, cracks or sun rot. Small golf ball size wear pattern on driver seat, but has not perforated or cracked the leather. Floor mats show obvious wear as they are original. I have included a "before" photo of paint damage on driver side rear bumper. Bumper has since been repainted and looks like new.

Brakes/Tires:
Brakes are at 70% life left. Vehicle stops straight and true with no rotor vibration. Tires are Michelin MX4's all around and have about 75% tread life left. They are wearing evenly and show no balance issues through the steering wheel.
Wheels are original OEM alloys and are in perfect condition with no road rash anywhere.

How could a lifted Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG be more awesome? Add an axle

Fri, 01 Mar 2013

We are fully confident in saying that this will be the most amazing thing you see all day. First of all, it's a Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen - in AMG spec, no less. And it's being shown off in high-definition video glory, blasting through the desert, jumping over sand dunes, and generally being awesome. But here's the kicker: It has six wheels. Three axles. And they're all driven. Holy $%!#.
Under the hood is AMG's usual 5.5-liter twin-turbocharged V8, and total output is rated at 536 horsepower and 560 pound-feet of torque. That's impressive and all, but do keep in mind that the G63 6x6 weighs in at 8,322 pounds or, you know, the weight of two E-Class sedans. Combine that with its 18 inches of ground clearance, 37-inch tires and five locking differentials and you've got a vehicle capable of, well, everything you've ever imagined or will ever imagine for the rest of your life.
But the goodness doesn't stop once you open the doors. Oh, no. This thing is fit for a king - or a sheik, more appropriately - with ultimately luxurious seating for four. The rear bench seat has been removed in favor of two bucket seats with a fixed console in the middle, and the rear seats have been moved back beyond the usual B pillar to allow for more legroom.

World Car Of The Year down to its final four

Wed, 13 Mar 2013

Judges for the World Car of the Year Award have narrowed down the finalists to just four vehicles. Out of a total of 42 entries, only the Mercedes-Benz A-Class, Porsche Boxster/Cayman, Scion FR-S/Subaru BRZ/Toyota GT-86 and Volkswagen Golf remain standing. For Volkswagen, this marks the second consecutive year the company has had an entry among the finalists, and the fourth time since 2009. In order to qualify, a vehicle must be on sale on two continents during the span of time between January 1, 2013 and May 30, 2013. A panel of 66 journalists from 23 countries then vote on the finalists.
Three vehicles have made the cut for the last round of voting on the 2013 World Performance Car as well, with the Cayman/Boxster and FR-S/BRZ/GT-86 running against the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta. Meanwhile, the Renault Zoe, Tesla Model S and Volvo V60 Plug-In Hybrid are duking it out for the World Green Car Award. Finally, the World Car Design of the Year Award is up for grabs between the Aston Martin Vanquish, Jaguar F-Type, and the Mazda6. Check out the full press release below. Overall winners will be presented at the 2013 New York Auto Show.

Mercedes rules out hybrid supercar, promises SLS successor

Sat, 16 Mar 2013

The recent Geneva Motor Show was a festival of hypercars, with the presence of not one, but three over-the-top debuts: the Lamborghini Veneno, McLaren P1 and Ferrari LeFerrari. The latter two have hitched their carbon fiber bumpers to the electrification bandwagon by using hybrid-electric powertrains not entirely unlike the propulsion systems we've come to know in cars like the Toyota Prius and Chevrolet Volt. Does that mean the flow of electrons up the four-wheeled food chain will eventually consume our hallowed supercars? Not if AMG has anything to say about it.
AMG Director of Vehicle Development Tobias Moers recently confirmed that not only will there be a successor to the Mercedes-Benz performance division's SLS AMG, he notes that its internal combustion engine will most definitely not be sharing living quarters with an electric drivetrain. Instead, AMG plans to focus on further pushing the power and efficiency envelope of the internal combustion engine and advancing the use of lightweight materials to achieve their goals. The first example of this effort can be seen in the new SLS AMG Black Series that incorporates many weight-saving techniques to shed some 154 pounds from the SLS AMG GT (above), which itself is lighter than the standard SLS AMG.
Furthermore, Moers remarks that his company is happy to leave the hypercar segment to companies like Ferrari and McLaren. He admits that, "Ferrari in the hyper-car segment is still a different brand than AMG. We have to be honest..." So rather than taking the SLS further upmarket to do battle with bulls and stallions, Moers hinted that the next-generation SLS may be joined by another performance model that fits neatly between itself and the C63 AMG.
