1974 Mercedes 450sel on 2040-cars

Up for your consideration is a 1974 Mercedes 450 SEL with only 21,450 miles on it. It was bought new in 1974 and owned for 37 years by a doctor in New York who only put 17,000 miles on it the whole time he owned it. That's only 459 miles per year. Sadly, the doctor passed away in 2011 and his daughter, who is a very good friend of my best friend, sold it to a mutual friend of ours. This car has only been titled twice. The previous title number is listed in the second title so it can most likely be verified that this is in fact a two owner car.

My friend is not computer literate so he asked me if I would sell it for him. I've taken many pictures and two videos (see links below), but you really need to see this vehicle in person to see what a fine car this really is. This stunning beauty has only 21,450 miles. It has been garage kept all of its life and it shows. It  looks and drives like it only has 21,450K on it and not that of a car that is 40 years old.

Everything is in this car works as it should...even the analog clock. The engine sounds like you'd expect a car with only 21,450 miles on it to sound. The transmission shifts perfectly. It drives very well. It stops great. You'd never know that you were driving a 40 year old car but if you knew Mercedes at all...you'd know that's why they are considered to be some of the best engineered cars in the world.

The original Astral Silver paint was still shiny and not faded, which is very rare for silver. The clear coat was cracked but it was really only noticable in direct sunlight. My friend decided to have it painted when he bought it and now it looks fantastic. The whole car has been detailed inside and out, including the undercarriage and it is super clean on the underside and there are no leaks at all. There is virtually no rust on the car. According to the orignal owner's daughter and the second owner, this car has never been in the snow. The interior is in amazingly good shape. The door panels, headliner, seats, dash, and carpet are in excellent shape. Unfortunately, the doctor had the original Becker radio removed and replaced with a Sony CD player and his daughter has no idea what he did with the radio. The tires only have 4K on them. All the chrome looks really good except for some small scratches on the front bumper. There is  a 1/2" in diameter spot on the windshield that has been professionally repaired but other than that all the glass looks very good. The spot that's been repaired is by the rear view mirror so it's not in your line of sight. Other than the paint, radio, and tires, the car is just as it was when it left the factory in 1974 and everything works as it should.

I have a clear title. I also have the original factory books that came with it, (from the glovebox), along with a 1" thick folder of receipts for various maintenance work dating back to 1974. I also have a K&K MFG parts catalog too.  The latest service was for $2,268.22. It had new tires, fan belts, hoses, oil pan gasket, a tie rod end installed, an alignment, and a new battery. All this was done 4,000 miles ago by Don Allen Service center which is a Mercedes authorized dealer in Alexandria Virginia. This was done by the original owner's daughter, before she sold it to my friend.

You are welcome to come and see it and drive it before you bid. If you cannot make in person before you bid, if this car is not what I claim it is then I will refund your deposit in full...no questioned asked. For what it's worth I've been selling oneBay since 1999. I have sold quite a few cars, and I have never had any negative feedback whatsoever so, please bid with confidence that you are not being scammed or lied to.

The winning bidder must place a $500 deposit within 24 hrs via Paypal only. The balance must be paid in full within 7 days after the completion of the auction. The vehicle must be picked up within two weeks of the end of the auction. I will not ship but if you want to have it shipped and make all the arrangements, I have no problem with that.  I will accept cash, or a certified check for payment.. If you bring a certified check it must be verified by MY bank before I will release the car.

Feel free to contact me with any questions. Thanks for your time and consideration.

Mercedes S-Class Magic Body Control ad is clucking awesome

Tue, 24 Sep 2013

This is a new ad from Mercedes-Benz. At no point does it show an automobile. Instead, it stars animals, but not the sort you might normally see in car commercial. This ad is all about chickens. It is bizarre, to say the least, with Diana Ross and the Supremes belting it out in the background, but it all kind of comes together when you realize just what Mercedes is hawking (yeah, pun intended).
It's for the manufacturer's Magic Body Control, found on the new S-Class. The system basically analyzes the road and prepares the suspension accordingly, leading to a ride that is, in the words of our own Chris Paukert "nothing short of spooky." You can read about it in our full review of the 2014 S550. Take a look below for the 53-second spot.

New Die Hard movie wrecked 132 cars in $11 million chase scene [w/video]

Sat, 16 Feb 2013

It would seem the act of dying hard brings with it lots of wanton destruction of the four-wheeled kind. According to John Moore, director of A Good Day To Die Hard, starring Bruce Willis, There were 132 (cars) that could never be used again. Another 518 required a lot of work. And damn right there were some good cars there... That's the fun of it."
Please join us in one great big collective sigh. Done? Okay, let's continue.
"With Die Hard it's about how audacious the action is," says Moore. "So you have to drive over a Lamborghini. An actual one. And yes it hurts me. I'm a car fanatic." Yeah. Sounds like it hurt really bad... though not as bad as the final tally after all the carnage had been counted: "Someone showed me the numbers on the car chase and soup to nuts, you put it all together it was like an $11 million sequence."

Mercedes-AMG GT attacks Circuit of the Americas

Fri, 12 Sep 2014

Mercedes-Benz is having a banner year with its Formula One team. Through 2014, the constructor has 454 championship points; ahead of its nearest competitor (Red Bull-Renault) by a margin of 182 tally marks. We're sure they can almost taste the champagne.
It's fitting then, and a little big cocky in a good way, that Mercedes has released a video of its newest sports car at an F1 venue. In this case, the car is the lovely Mercedes-AMG GT S, and the racetrack is Austin's Circuit of the Americas.
Having seen the official photo set and scratched the surface of the technical specifications earlier this week, we're excited to finally hear the thing run. As you might guess, the deployment of 503 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque from the twin-turbo V8 is a motivating experience. Crank up your volume, and hit that play button. (Oh, and Mercedes shot the thing in 4K, too, so those of you with expensive televisions/monitors should take heed to the settings.)
