1995 Mercedes S500, Chrome Wheels, Strong Engine - As Is & Where Is on 2040-cars

Vehicle starts and runs fine (strong motor), but is currently registered with CA DMV as a non-operating vehicle (meaning it can't currently be legally driven on public streets until it is registered and tagged).  There are no current tags on the vehicle, and it has been sitting idle in my driveway for a couple of years.

I've been meaning to work on it and bring it back to it's former glory, but never got around to it, and I have six other cars in the household.  Wife's patience has run out (see above).

I bought this car (on eBay!) in 2002, from a dealer in Pennsylvania.  It was an excellent freeway flyer until transmission problems cropped up.  Put a rebuilt tranny in, and soon thereafter other issues (electrical, vacuum system, etc.) made it unreliable (and my wife refused to drive it  anymore).   So it sat.  And sat some more.  I go out and fire it up now and then, drive it around the block, take it to the care wash, etc.  I just don't have the time, energy, or desire to mess around with it -though I don't think it would take much to bring it back to daily life -if that is what you are looking for.  I can't guarantee that, though.  And honestly, the ghosts in this car may take a bit of wizardry to exorcize.  One mech said it was likely the vacuum pump system under the rear seat.  Another said the tranny job wasn't done right.  Whatever - the wife wasn't having any of it - so she has to go (the Benz-*cough*, not the wife ).

It's got a clear, clean title, but is not tagged, so buyer will need to tow it home/to shop.   It starts right up and it'll drive, but I can't say for how far and it may go loco on you.   Some weirdness like windows going down while parked, doors/trunk not locking, sunroof opening and closing on its own - stuff like that.  I put in a new battery (which itself, like the tranny, although a few years old now, has hardly any miles on it), and I bought a new window left-rear regulator (but never installed it - the buyer gets it too, still new in the box).

It's got a good spare, and is pretty clean.  Minuses: The paint is lightly fading and peeling a bit here and there on top and rear deck - but no rust. There's a nasty crack on the back window (wife closed the trunk with the gas cap in the hinge, tweaking the glass -nice one!).  You can see the crack if you zoom in on that photo.   Let's see; there's a small rip on the rear seat leather but I put a nice, matching cloth cover over it.  A lady at the mall backed into my wife one day and lightly crunched the left-front corner, but the lady's insurance paid for a new light, hood, and cowling (sweet!) - so that's all new -and look's it.  I think the vacuum pump deal is messing with the trunk lock too, and it is hard to open (or it could be something else).  Oh - and the "AMG" badge on the back lid is just ornamental - the car is not an AMG-enhanced Benz.  All the electronics, A/C, etc. work fine (except those mentioned earlier, things hooked up the the vacuum system (door locks, etc.).  Great BOSE sound system.  Body is straight, no damage, hardly any blemishes at all, really (both the wife and the car - but only the car is for sale).  Can't think of anything else wrong with her.

So -I've owned this car for twelve years, loved it on the highway - it literally rockets past anything - trips to Vegas and Palm Springs were the best.   Super powerful and a very comfortable ride.  My rear seat passengers were always remarking about the comfy "limo-feel" to the ride.  There's this double-thick heavy side glass windows someone told me once is a bullet-proof add-on, but I've never tested that one!

I put chrome wheels on her in about 2005 I think.  I'm letting the whole car go for what I paid for the wheels.  Chrome looks great.  Rubber/tread on tires is getting down there, however - if you're gonna fix her back up, new boots may be prudent...

In any case - that's the story.  The car is a steal at my low, no reserve price. It would make a great parts car or minor refurbish project - since she still looks pretty good, has a good engine, and you can get her for a song...  Actually, if you're even slightly mechanically inclined and have the time and energy (and a more patient wife), you can likely get this nice road yacht cruising fine again without a lot of effort.

Ask me any questions you want.  I'll be as straight and honest with you as possible.  Check my feedback; over 1200 transactions, 100% positive feedback on all of them.  I believe in the eBay trust-concept.  I'm not looking to make any real money here; bottom line:

Happy Wife = Happy Life...    right fellas?!

Cash sale is final.  Bring a tow dolly or trailer, pick her up and she's all yours...

-----addenda -----

OK!  Vehicle engine pictures added.  (one inquirer made a rather illogical correlation that suggested by my excluding pictures of the vehicle engine that an assumption can be made that I am "dealer").  I have no idea how such a correlation can be made - but I'll give the inquirer the benefit-of-the-doubt and include a few pics of the engine.  Of course, it would be hard to sell a car as one with a "strong motor" that "starts and runs" fine if it didn't have an engine to begin with - but, whateva: here you go: PROOF POSITIVE - the engine exists!  (and lives).

Actually - all kidding aside, the engine is probably the most valuable part of this car - it is a smooth running, tight, no leaks, beast of a motor -it's the other electrical/vacuum? phantoms that are puzzling and elusive -and what has kept me (and especially the darling spouse) out of the car and the car living on the tarmac for the last couple of years.

Oh - and no, I am not a 'dealer' - just a lowly college professor.  This is my first vehicle sale on eBay, although I've bought and sold many hundreds of items on eBay over the years with hardly ever experiencing even the slightest problem.

Any more questions?  Ask away!

----------  A/C? ---------

Air Conditioning works fine, fan blows  on all settings, dual climate control system appears to be working well, temp adjustment works, A/C/ blows nice and cold.

p.s. inquirer remarked that thew double-paned thick glass is not bullet-proof glass, seemingly a rumor started some years ago.  I didn't know that.  Pretty think stuff though - my guess is it would stop or at least really slow down a small-caliber bullet!  Again - I'm not about to test that out, though...

Mercedes has already booked 30k orders for new S-Class

Mon, 21 Oct 2013

When Toyota snags 30,000 Corolla orders over a three-month span, it's entirely possible we're in the midst of a global economic collapse and that the end is nigh. That's because the scale for Toyota is so very large. Mercedes-Benz, on the other hand, operates on a much smaller scale, particularly when we talk about its higher-end models, like the S-Class.
In 2012, Mercedes sold 65,000 of its flagship sedans in Germany and the EU. That's 178 units per day, for 365 days. Based on that, you can imagine the excitement at Stuttgart when it accepted 30,000 orders for the new S-Class in just three months. That's an average of 333 per day on a continent with a notoriously shaky economy. Now, admittedly, this enthusiasm could wane as the refitted S-Class becomes more common and Mercedes achieves market saturation in Europe's many chauffeur and livery services, but Mercedes isn't choosing to look at it that way.
"The new S-Class has already jumped back into the lead in terms of new vehicle registrations in Germany and its neighboring European countries," Mercedes-Benz head of sales and marketing, Ola Kaellenius, said in a statement last week.

The Mansory Speranza proves that money can buy taste and good sense...

Tue, 05 Mar 2013

...Just kidding.
No one in their right mind has ever accused German tuners Mansory of being subtle. So, when our Geneva team wandered across the Mansory Speranza - A Mercedes-Benz Gelandewagen that has been denuded of its roof and spackled inside with quilted leather and red carbon fiber - they didn't ask a lot of existential questions. Why does the Speranza exist? Because Germans are weird sometimes, that's why.
Forget for a moment that you'll have to pay Mansory hundreds of thousands of euros (we're guessing, no pricing information has been revealed) for the privilege of converting your G-Class into something that looks like a Suzuki Samurai, and prepare to be impressed by the details. The tuning house has increased the output of the Mercedes V8 to a healthy 700 horsepower and 668 pound-feet of torque. The wheels are 24-inches, and wear almost unbelievable 305-section ultra-high performance Vresdestein tires. Carbon fiber can be found nearly everywhere one looks, including making up the housing for the spare tire. Oh, and there are leather pillows for the backseats... no word on whether they're standard or optional, but we're looking in to it.

2013 Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG

Fri, 22 Feb 2013

Make way for the 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG, the most wonderfully preposterous car I have ever driven.
There is absolutely no reason why any two-seat roadster should be fitted with a twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter V12 developing 621 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque, but I sure am glad that Mercedes-Benz doesn't see things that way.
Drop into the leather-lined cockpit of this $213,145 provocateur, floor the accelerator pedal as I did over and over again, and 60 miles per hour falls in a traction-limited 3.9 seconds. Top speed has been electronically held to 186 mph (this apparently saves Gulfstream jet owners from embarrassment). Forget the SL550 and SL63 AMG, the valets will trip over themselves attending to the tycoon driving this thoroughbred - it's the real deal.
