YOU HAVE TO OWN A MERCEDES S55 AMG!!  IF YOU ARE VIEWING THIS, YOU ALREADY KNOW THAT!!

If not this one, buy one somewhere --but indulge and yourself with this spectacular car! Life is too short not to go for it! The sound alone is worth the price.
For under $15K you can enjoy a $110K+ car that most people only get to dream about.

This is really the S55 to buy since all the normal stuff that goes awry at from 85,000 to 100,000 miles on 220-Series S-Class cars has been taken care of on this one! With just under 110K
it has had a new factory remanufactured transmission at about 95K, new ABC pump and fluid within the last 3K miles (pricey!!) and a new battery less than 2 years ago, Recent new wiper motor.

This car is exceptionally nice, with a great interior! No rips tears, scratches. Mats are virtually new. The body in Brilliant Silver is excellent. The wheels show some rash, but are very very good.
Tools and manuals are there. Two key remotes. Virginia legal window tint.

Everything seems to work (there are so many options on this thing, I am not even sure that I have used them all.) The climate control, A/C and audio/navigation systems are in great order too.

One minor thing with the trunk -- the soft close feature does not work and the trunk lid pop-out handle works opposite of what it should.

The tires are very good --too good to replace for quite awhile, but the fronts are Nexen and the rears are Bridgestones. These were on when I got the car. They are quiet and the handling is not compromised (at least at the speeds I drive.)  The brakes -- ah, these brakes! ..are phenomenal; 8-piston AMG calipers up front and 4-piston ones at the rear. This sucker really stops!
(By the way, the car does not need new pads, but I do have a spare set that comes with the car.)

I have truly enjoyed this car, but now it is time for something else unique. I have done all the hard (read: expensive) stuff, so all you have to do is jump in and go!

The Mansory Speranza proves that money can buy taste and good sense...

Tue, 05 Mar 2013

...Just kidding.
No one in their right mind has ever accused German tuners Mansory of being subtle. So, when our Geneva team wandered across the Mansory Speranza - A Mercedes-Benz Gelandewagen that has been denuded of its roof and spackled inside with quilted leather and red carbon fiber - they didn't ask a lot of existential questions. Why does the Speranza exist? Because Germans are weird sometimes, that's why.
Forget for a moment that you'll have to pay Mansory hundreds of thousands of euros (we're guessing, no pricing information has been revealed) for the privilege of converting your G-Class into something that looks like a Suzuki Samurai, and prepare to be impressed by the details. The tuning house has increased the output of the Mercedes V8 to a healthy 700 horsepower and 668 pound-feet of torque. The wheels are 24-inches, and wear almost unbelievable 305-section ultra-high performance Vresdestein tires. Carbon fiber can be found nearly everywhere one looks, including making up the housing for the spare tire. Oh, and there are leather pillows for the backseats... no word on whether they're standard or optional, but we're looking in to it.

New Mercedes Unimog debuts to the cheers of little boys everywhere [w/video]

Sat, 27 Apr 2013

The Mercedes Unimog, the superhero villain of the off-road world that's just waiting to make the jump to Transformer, has been completely upgraded for its new generation. There are ten models, expanding the range and getting new designations across the traditional all-terrain series and the implement-carrier series. Panoramic cabins get more visibility, multifunction steering wheels and better dash clusters, improved HVAC and a three-mode central tire inflation system. Outside, there are new items like LED headlights and daytime running lamps in the bumper, roof-mounted windshield wipers and a front-camera monitor for the implement carrier.
The new engine lineup is compliant with Euro VI, featuring four- and six-cylinder BlueEfficiency engines putting out anywhere from 156 horsepower to 354 hp. Powerplant placement has also been tweaked, the chassis members getting a revised curve to place the engine a bit further back and lower, maintaining off-road clearance and lowering the Unimog's center of gravity. The new location of the engine means the cabin has more room, and the wheelbase is shorter. Combined with a higher turning angle, the Unimog has a smaller turning radius than before.
The implement carrier gets what's called a "synergistic traveling drive," the bonus being that drivers don't need to stop in order to use an attachment - a hydrostatic transmission works with the regular manual transmission at up to 31 kilometers per hour for seamless switching.

XCAR marks 20-year anniversary of Senna's passing with Mercedes 190E Cosworth

Thu, 01 May 2014

While the automotive world is focusing on the twentieth anniversary of Ayrton Senna's death, there was much, much more to the legendary driver than his untimely passing at the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix.
XCAR has the story of a younger Senna, who, by a stroke of luck, found himself matched up against a veritable dream team of nine Formula One champions, not to mention a cadre of German touring car aces. A "probably still pissed (drunk)" James Hunt, hard-driving Niki Lauda and future champion and rival Alain Prost, were in attendance for the one-off, spec race, which was put on by Mercedes-Benz, in honor of the opening of the Nürburgring's Grand Prix circuit. And Senna was on hand with the explicit goal of besting them all.
Each driver was handed a lightly modified, but brand-new 190E 2.3-16 Cosworth, a car that can best be though of as the distant ancestor of the lovable C63 AMG. As for the race itself, well, it was sort of like an introduction of what the sport could come to expect from the Brazilian.
