It was garage kept for most of it's life. Rubber moldings need to be replaced to get a tighter fit. Vacuum system could use some work and/or a vacuum advance system. The doors won't lock (I think vacuum system is issue). The A/C works good but cuts out a bit with excessive acceleration. It comes back on when you level off the accelerator. Car starts great on cold start but you need to push accelerator while starting for warm start. Cruise Control is not working but I think that's a fuse. A little work and this could be an amazing car. I just don't have the time right now."

Offered for sale is a fine example of one the best model Mercedes ever produced. Offered from 1972 threw 1989 the body remained unchanged. 1979 is often recognized as one of the finest years for this model.  It enjoyed 4 different engines in the US and 2 other ones in Europe. The 450 is considered the best engine ever built. Ever.  This example has had only two owners since new. When a person owns a car this many years they generally are kind to it. This is a US production version originally painted white and repainted red before I bought it. It is also fitted with an optional rear seat. The interior is original and looks and feels great. The engine turns over freely and runs great. I drive it to and from the office on the freeway 20 miles each way.  Tires are brand new. The car is sold with two tops. The hard top is in excellent shape. The convertible top is brand new. The battery is brand new. Two complete sets of keys as well as original owners books.  Send me a message and I can send more photos if interested.

Mercedes teams with Pebble for smartwatch tech

Tue, 24 Dec 2013

Most automakers have realized by now that a good infotainment system is a must-have feature for many buyers, and have, as a result, invested increasing amounts of time and money developing these technologies. But some automakers are going above and beyond in-car entertainment and navigation technology by focusing on wearable technology as well.
Nissan has emerged as one such company, developing its own alternative to Google Glass and performance-oriented smartwatch. But Mercedes-Benz is also putting itself at the forefront of wearable tech - not by developing competing products to those designed by dedicated tech companies, but by working with them. The German automaker, as we recently reported, is developing its own app for Google Glass, and is now doing the same with smartwatches as well.
Set to be unveiled at the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Mercedes has collaborated with Pebble Technologies to develop the Digital DriveStyle app. The system will display tell its wearer where the car is, whether the doors are locked and if it needs fuel. Inside the car it'll alert the driver to potential hazards coming up on the road, while making functions like re-routing the nav system, controlling the audio system or activating Siri that much easier.

Chris Harris and David Coulthard wring out a Mercedes Fintail at the N"urburgring

Thu, 17 Oct 2013

If there's one thing we've learned from the latest video from Drive, it's that the combination of Chris Harris and David Coulthard will produce some very quotable moments. Take this exchange, for example.
DC: "We are by some way the slowest."
CH: "But we're in a class of three cars, apparently."

Mercedes rules out hybrid supercar, promises SLS successor

Sat, 16 Mar 2013

The recent Geneva Motor Show was a festival of hypercars, with the presence of not one, but three over-the-top debuts: the Lamborghini Veneno, McLaren P1 and Ferrari LeFerrari. The latter two have hitched their carbon fiber bumpers to the electrification bandwagon by using hybrid-electric powertrains not entirely unlike the propulsion systems we've come to know in cars like the Toyota Prius and Chevrolet Volt. Does that mean the flow of electrons up the four-wheeled food chain will eventually consume our hallowed supercars? Not if AMG has anything to say about it.
AMG Director of Vehicle Development Tobias Moers recently confirmed that not only will there be a successor to the Mercedes-Benz performance division's SLS AMG, he notes that its internal combustion engine will most definitely not be sharing living quarters with an electric drivetrain. Instead, AMG plans to focus on further pushing the power and efficiency envelope of the internal combustion engine and advancing the use of lightweight materials to achieve their goals. The first example of this effort can be seen in the new SLS AMG Black Series that incorporates many weight-saving techniques to shed some 154 pounds from the SLS AMG GT (above), which itself is lighter than the standard SLS AMG.
Furthermore, Moers remarks that his company is happy to leave the hypercar segment to companies like Ferrari and McLaren. He admits that, "Ferrari in the hyper-car segment is still a different brand than AMG. We have to be honest..." So rather than taking the SLS further upmarket to do battle with bulls and stallions, Moers hinted that the next-generation SLS may be joined by another performance model that fits neatly between itself and the C63 AMG.
